City Have Bought Potential

City have confirmed they have been tracking Jack Rodwell for two years. They realise that he has got huge potential and they are hoping that they can give him the stage to fulfill that potential.

David Moyes couldn't wait any longer for Jack Rodwell to come through and took the money and ran.

Has Moyesy called it right?

Right hand man David Platt said: "When you look at a player for too long - you think that could be negative or a flaw, but it doesn't take away the characteristics the boy has," he continued.

"He has great technical ability off both feet, can pass it, play in a variety of positions, and has good physique and size.

"I think there is a great deal of potential there and so does Robbie, and we looked at it and thought it is the right thing to do, the opportunity came along for us to do it this summer, at the right money business wise, and we feel that we can provide him with the platform to realise that potential which has been there for a long time.

"We have seen him a few times, we have been to have a look and the opportunity is there, we don't think he has realised his potential and we think we can give him that stage."

Moyesie has definitely done the right thing (again) in cashing in on Rodders. He sees what's on offer at Finch Farm and knows what is right for Everton Football Club. Couldn't help but smirk at the ridiculous comments made by cheque book manager Mancini. This 'buried by his scarf' clown has no concept of what Everton are about and he is only interested in spending Arab money. He needs to check out our history and compare it to his own club's before he opens his mouth. Top flight champs three times.... if you know your history. Nuff said. Eddieparkend COYB

The only thing Platt doesn't mention are the important things like ability with a ball, oh he says passes off both feet yes 90% of the time behind teammates, fuck me physique, size lets get down the gym for are next youth prospects. I just see a average central water carrying midfielder that does simple things that any young footballer should have if they play in the Premier League. He done very little at Everton and i dont see him doing much at City then again half on here would look the part playing alongside Toure, Silva, Nasri and co.

Jack never really fulfillef his potential with us. Good business really for 12mill. Remember he rarely played last season plus weve some serious young players on the friHnge I trust David Moyes judgement hes worth 10 of Mancini

Great business by the Blues. Potential not being met, how long did Moyes have to wait? I suppose earning all the mega-bucks no doubt they will be paying you is like a dream come true. Thought making your debut for the Blues was? Oh well, join the ranks of the over-paid also ran millionaire footballers in the game. Good luck though Jack, you will need it at City if you get in the team in the first place.

Great bit of business i feel, potentially world class yet average at the moment unfortunately a club like ours with a tight budget should not pass £12-20million for a bench warmer. There are a few decent kids out there, jordan rhodes, matty phillips, daniel powell & adam smith to name a few. moyes will have something up his sleeve i think !

Long term I always thought he would be a centre back as his understanding of the game matured. That's where he might end up at City if he fulfills his promise, but it's a big 'if' at the moment. I don't think he'll ever be the 'impact' player we once hoped he would be, I just don't think he's made that way and that's why he'll be better as a defending centre back who makes an occasional attack.

Good business and lets move on. An enigma who maywell flourish, - Ross, now must take note and prepare to step up, his time is near.. Lets see if we can get some players in to boost the squad numbers.

Rob the 5 players you've listed there barely saw any game time in the back half of last season. Faddy must have played a cumulative 15 minutes. Straq was unused as soon as Jelly came in and got over his niggle, then when Anichebe came back he fell further down the pecking order. Don't forget we have vellios who took his chances with a few goals last year. Drenthe was missing as soon as we realised what a dipstick he was and as much as everyone loves Timmy I think you'd be hard pushed to find a blue who didn't feel we looked better with Fella supporting Jelly. Not 1 of those 5 would have been in the starting line up agaisn't united (well probably Cahill but only because he's Cahill).

My concern is squad numbers. Compared to last season's run in we are up 1 - Naismith and down 5 - Cahill, Rodwell, McFadden, Straqualirsi, Drenthe... and that's not counting squad players like Hahnemann, Baxter and Wallace. Vital we use the Rodwell money well.

Jack won't be missed, he never made a huge impression or made himself a regular. Good business all round.

Good luck Jack. So sad to see people slagging him off. If you are not 100% fit in the Prem league it stands out like a sore thumb and can make players look ordinary. Jack never moaned about his situation and all reports show him as a hard worker in training. He never made the wrong headlines and is a real credit to the Everton Acadamy system. I hope he gets fit, sometimes a move can stop injury jinxes. Good move for both club and player.

Good luck Jack. Hope you fulfil your potential! For Everton I think this is a good move. I would rather lose Jack than either Fellaini or Baines and if this deal helps balance the books as well as gives Moyes a transfer kitty then it had to be done. I would like to see the money invested in a couple of youngsters from the lower leagues, such as Matt Phillips and Jordan Rhodes. Aron Gunnarsson at Cardiff is also a decent prospect.

Moyes stated "no one leaves unless i say so, there is no pressure to sell". When he says that i believe him, as i know he is a man of integrity, so therefore Moyes musnt fancy him enough to turn down 12m+. As for City...idiots, well they have signed the wrong midfielder as why isnt Fellaini wearing a City shirt ? strange, cant figure that one out. Moving on, the most important thing is will all this Rodwell money be spent on strenthening, if so we could be in for a few surprises, or will it be a Bill and Barclays set up, as no excuses now as this isnt a last minute "oh we had no time to sign anyone' Arteta deal. Always interesting being a blues fan PS Also i think Moyes has seen the Cisco kid and thinks he is bet than Rodwell, so he is surplus

This should mean that we wont be selling Fellaini or Baines and if Rodders has to go to prevent that, and the fee will be £15 million rising, then so be it. I'm disappointed that Rodwell never achieved his potential at Goodison, but if I was Moyes, I'd have done the same. The Boss will get us 3-4 good players with the money. Start with Phillips at Blackpool and Clint Dempsey. Rate both highly.

Can't argue that its bad business, he is going to be a bench warmer and a cup player for a long time, I think Rodwell has the potential to be one of the best English midfielders in the game but I think there will always be better midfielders in the world and shitty have the money to buy whoever they want, its a shame because he will not ever get near the potential without proper regular first team experience. However the way Platt and Mancini have come out and disrespected Everton after this deal was done is absolutely disgusting, Mancini has been quoted as saying "Rodwell is now joining a team with a winning mentality and it will take him time to adjust" funny how a team without a winning mentality still manages to beat them though :S

When I first heard that Rodwell was going I was happy, happy because I don't think he'll ever be as good for us as we hoped, and also I'd rather lose him than most of the other players we have. After seeing the reaction of the City fans I feel for Rodwell. They're already on his back and slagging him off. Some have even given him the nick name "Cockwell". What a joke they are, 2 seasons of success and they think they can behave like this. Best of luck Jack, I hope you prove all your doubters wrong and be the player you can be. And I hope we can get a couple of new players in to boost our squad. Onwards and upwords. COYB.

As a coach of mine once said to me - potential just means your fuck all use at the moment. Good luck to him though.

Agree with Karl, take the money and run. Plus he's a sick note. But why not do this deal last year with who ever wanted him instead of getting rid of Mikel? Still gutted over that deal ........

Sadly yes I think Moyes is right on this occasion. Jack just hasn't done it for us despite his promise. He might do it at City with other players but I began to think he never would with us. Good luck to him though. He's a decent lad, never complained at the bad luck with injuries he had.

I'm afraid we need to take the money for a player who Moyes cannot get the best out of. Undoubted ability and personally, I feel he will become one of the best of his generation.

"He has great technical ability off both feet, can pass it, play in a variety of positions, and has good physique and size." Shut up Platt, just give us the money.............now run Moyes before they realise he's useless

I'm just happy it has happened quickly and not dragged out like previous sagas. Don't think he will get a game there and we can benefit from what is hopefully a large fee.

Who the fuck does Platt think he is. "we think he can realise his potential here". The lad has been injured for two seasons on and off. Nothing against Jack but I'm sure Moyes has done some more good business and hopefully the board will back him with some signings. Time for Barkley to step up and hopefully by the end of the season we may have George Green making an appearance.

The move suits both parties Everton and Jack. We can't wait any longer for him to reach his potential, he's injury prone and he would not have been first choice. So it's a good deal.
