Gibson Stars For Everton

Everton skipper has praised the form of midfield general Darron Gibson. With Steven Pienaar and Maurane Fellaini getting all the plaudits, the Everton captain sees Gibbo as the best for the money Everton paid for him.

It was noticeable that the team never played as well when Gibbo went off in the second half in the 3-1 win at Villa

Phil said:  "Darron's been a revelation to play with since he came here. He obviously wants the ball and has great energy. We expect massive things from Darron at this club. I don't think he realises how good he can be.

"He's got unbelievable quality and for the money we paid for him, it's got to be one of the snips of the century - to get somebody of his quality that has had the grounding he has. You know you're playing with a good player when he wants the ball and takes it.

"People obviously rave about Steven Pienaar coming in last year but he was probably just as good as Steven in terms of the quality he gave us. I think we've got somebody in midfield now - him and Felli, both at 24 - with energy, quality and more importantly, the hunger to play at the highest level - and that's driving everyone forward.

"I think there's plenty more to come without a shadow of a doubt. I think there's always that doubt when someone comes from a top four side and they're not a consistent member of that team and they're only playing once every few weeks. You wonder if it's fitness or something else. I've been in that situation myself. Darron played at a club where in front of him, he had Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes, two of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

"I always knew his quality from watching him grow up as a kid. I knew he was a real powerhouse midfielder. He had quality on the ball and his set-piece delivery was fantastic. To me, he looks like somebody that could get five to 10 goals per season. When you're playing in Manchester United reserves and only playing for the first team every now and again, I think there's going to be question marks against you. Since coming to Everton, Darron's answered a lot of those questions."

I feel there is no coincidence that we are seeing the best of Felli as Gibbo came to our midfield. At half a mill, he has ousted Rodwell to the bench and into a move to City's reserves. But most importantly, someone who can boss the centre circle and give the wig a free liciense to roam further a field and help Jelly. This man i feel has transformed out team to a top five team. The glue that bonds a fast flowing, creative, easy on the eye midfield to watch. Spurs can spend £15m-20m on a centre-mid but won't get much better than Gibbo! look out top-4.

Is it just me or has Gibbo got a look of Don Hutchinson about him. I thought the Hutch was a great player for us who got treated really badly by the blessed idiot Smith. Anyway I agree with Neville Gibbo has to be the bargain of the century.

I couldn't agree less. Fat lot I know from the stands compared to Capitan Phil - but for me the man passes responsibility when he passes the ball. Even against Villa when me mum could have run the midfield he only played two really meaningful - and forward - passes all day. Yes, he can shoot, but he can't tackle, doesn't head and isn't mobile enough by half. Very very happy to be proved wrong but my jury's out, waiting for a real injetcion of energy and will from DG

No awkwardness shown or just finding my feet syndrome exhibited,Darron has seamlessly fitted into the Everton style as if he's been doing it for years.Another modest yet great piece of business by Mr.Moyes.It seems as if he's found a club and a squad of players that inspire him to prove a few critics were a touch hasty in their estimations, and the close camaraderie he has with his team mates compensates for the peripheral role he had at United.Been a model of consistency from the first minute as he goes about his role with a minimum of fuss,he wont always grab the big plaudits, but will be sorely missed if injury(hopefully not)occurs.

i like a player who can randomly shoot at goal, Darron Gibson has at least one shot per game and it's usually a screamer.

Expertly put by Phil, he is right, an absolute snip. Utd friends say why is Gibson playing so well for you, its all about playing time and WHERE he is playing, in front of the back four is perfect for him to play the ball out rather than the defender hoof, and allows our other players to hurt the opposition. I expect Darron to score some crackers this season, only a matter of time before he hits the ball into the back of the net from 25yds...taking the goalie with him !
