Gibbo Missed

Darron Gibson is becoming a seriously important cog in Everton's wheel. When he went off with 20 minutes to go at Villa we were not the same team. This time with just 20 minutes gone he came off injured. It was no coincidence that WBA came into the game when Gibbo departed.

The Everton players realise how important he is to us. Recently Phil Neville said that Gibbo could be the bargain of the century. And Leon Osman missed him when he went off against the baggies.

Ossie said: "I thought we were on top at the time. We were prodding and poking and starting to create chances. It was disappointing for Darron to go off as he has been playing really well for us. Hopefully we will get some positive news on that.

It was`nt just Gibbo`s absence; Peanuts was feeling a thigh strain, Screech was okay but a bit under the cosh, the older guys in midfield were more easily constrained;and Mirallas was`nt match fit or adjusted yet to the Brit game. But, just you wait, Toffees, our midfield is formidable now!!!

I can understand Moyes wanting to keep Neville on the pitch for his experience, leadership and organisational skills. But when Gibbo went off and he put Nev in the middle with Tony right back I felt that was the wrong choice. I think leave Nev RB, drop Fellaini into the middle and put Mirallas on in place of Gibbo and push him in behind Jelavic would have been better. Fellaini is fantastic in that holding role and still would have been able to help the forward play even if its just by simply starting the move off or coming up for corners/ free kicks. Plus Mirallas would have provided a great attacking impetus and that show of positivity might have unsettled WBA a little. This isn't just hines sight, Gibbo was laying on the floor for a good 30-60 seconds before the sub and during this time I said the same thing.

Agree with Joe S, should get Johnny on the pitch, a bit of brutality needed on a day like yesterday.

Gibbo is becoming a very important part of the first team and was missed when he he went off. Lets hope he's back soon.

The whole away end gave a huge sigh when we saw Gibbo hobbling off. We know how important he has become to the dynamics of our midfield. Neville can tackle but cannot see a pass, Osman can see a pass but cannot tackle, Gibbo does both. Excellent spacial awareness. We tried to play football against a hard working, organised outfit. Admirable but we got suckered. It's up to the physios now. Please get Gibson 100% and we will have a great chance of Europe. Hopefully Moyes will use Barclay in the league cup for development and cover.
