Phil Neville To Meet Up With The PFA
Bookmark and Share

Captain Phil Neville is to get a visit from PFA Boss Gordon Taylor shortly.

The Professional Footballers Association is set to hold talks with every Premier League captain over the behaviour of players. The PFA will take the lead in reminding players of their responsibilities with the spotlight back on the national game after the universal success of the summer Olympics.

The meetings, which have Premier League backing, have been provisionally scheduled for late this month.

Several issues will be discussed with the captains, who will be told to use their influence to keep their team-mates in check after 12 months of controversy for the game. The Ferdinand and John Terry plus the Patrice Evra and Luis Sewerat incidents grabbed unwanted headlines.

There is an acceptance that football will struggle to be the example it wants to set to youngsters if it does not get its house in order. But now the PFA and Premier League are moving to make the players understand their pay-packets come with responsibility.

Good luck Phil! Don't think we have too much to worry about at Everton.

Adrian, Malvern - A better technical footballer doesn't always make a better captain, if you knew anything about football you would know that. Why do you think Puyol captains and Barca and not Messi? Baines is a fantastic player and leads by example with his feet, but he is nowhere near the loudest on the pitch. Being a captain is as much mental as it is physical/technical. Phil is the captain because he has the experience and the mentality, he is a born winner who will stop at nothing to succeed. I agree with you his limited ability can be frustrating but if you look at our stats with and without him in the team we win more games with him in it, so he must be doing something right. I agree with Tony, once his playing days are over we should keep him in the backroom staff, he is a great motivator.

Phil Neville is the perfect Everton captain, Adrian, Malvern, Baines is a good player and very consistent but he is not a leader of men.

Shouldn't even be in the team let alone be Captain of our great club, we don't need his limited abilities, his attempts constantly at his 'dinky' little chip pass annoy the crap out of me. I would make Leighton Baines captain as he is our best, most consistent player and might just make him want to stay.

When Phil was signed my mate text me that Moyse has signed Phil Neville and I had reservations about it, but it must be one of Moyse's best ever signings. It is a must that we also keep him at the club when his playing career finishes, he is such an influence in the club.
