Ossie Has Not Given Up On England

Leon Osman is hoping that a starring role for Everton will finally earn him an England call-up.

Ossie is 31 and has made over 250 appearances for the blues and has not yet given up hope of pulling on the three lions shirt.

Ossie said: "I wouldn't say I have accepted getting called up for England is going to elude me."

"As you start to get 30-plus, the chances start to diminish, but, as an English lad, you still keep going for your club and if it ever happens that would be great."

Looking at some of Uncle Woy's picks in the last England squad then Ossie still has a chance.

Is Ossie good enough for England? What do you think?

Franny Jeffers once played for England as have Emile Heskey, Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing and Keiron Dyer to name but a few hopeless players so surely 10minutes at the end of a needless friendly wouldn't do any harm? Might get the big clubs sniffing round though come January!

Jim (no.13)...did you watch the game last night? Take your blue tinted specs off for two seconds, oz was shite! At fault for one of the goals, gave the ball away about 5 times in the 2nd half when not under pressure, and then disappeared for the last 15 minutes. Dunno what Heitinga has to do to get a game....

Never been a fan of Ozzy and me and fellow blues have had that many arguments it's untrue. When he has a game like last night I rest my case.

Its a fucking joke that Ossie has never been called up, especially when you see some of the shithouse's have have been capped. As Balcony Blue pointed out [post 7] Cleverley getting the nod ahead of Ossie is fucking ludicrous. I think Cleverley has now played more minutes fro England than he has in the prem for manure, yet Capello AND Woy have both selected him??? It seems it doesn't matter how shite you are, if you're at manure and English your automatically in the England squad. Just ask Wes Browne. He's never been capped since his move to Sunderland. And while I believe Phil Neville is a much better player than Browne, he's never been capped since he left the mancs either.

None of you have a clue! Ossie is a great player, who has unbelievable feet, and bags of talent. Its just idiots like you lot who think he's garbage. Leon has been one of our best serving players over the last 5-7 years!

Always been a fan of Ossie but after last night against the bar codes I wouldn't be holding my breath on this one.

Thing is Ossie is exactly the sort of player England need and his slightly lightweightedness wouldn't be a disadvantage because,as the England v Ukraine game proved, at international level you can't do much as sneeze.

I'd take off One trick pony Milnor and slot Oz in RM! He's got more skill, dimension and awareness of the ball! Milnor was an absolute shambles in the Euros! Ossie's been our knight in shining armour many a game! Has been the most underestimated midfielder in the Prem! It amazes me how many fickle FcUKs forget that!

Osman a good squad player for the Blues. No chance with England.

Can't believe so many negative comments. I've often said that I believe his game would be suited to Interational football, where the emphasis is more on skill than muscle. Are you seriously telling me that Cleverley is a better player? Keep plugging away Ossie and your time may yet come.

While I actually don't think Ossie is good enough, when you think that Jenas, Huddlestone, Barton, Henderson and last week Sterling, Livermore(?) have all had call ups, surely he must be worth a go in a freindly atleast. If he played for Tottenham or Liverpool he would have a call up by now.

To be honest I've got more chance of playing for England than Leon. I like him but he lacks physical strength and always vanishes when the going gets tough. The only way he'll ever play for England is if everybody else is injured. Sorry Leon, it's a pipe dream.

Averages 4.3 goals per season over last 10 years.Wouldn't like to think what his average is for attempts and misses.Agree with the other 3 comments.

Decent player but his lack of power when shooting has let him down over the years . Too many chances gone begging through either lack of composure or lack of technique. Add a shot to his game and he would be a cert.

If we have a fully fit squad he is not good enough for Everton's first eleven. Has the occasional good game but a bit lightweight. Squad player at best.
