Heitinga Ready To Sign A New Contract
Bookmark and Share

John Heitinga, fresh from being dragged off at half time at Wigan for having a stinker, is ready to sign a new deal at Everton.

The 28-year-old is currently on international duty with Holland, and has revealed that he is ready to commit to longer deal even though his current deal runs out in 2014.

The Dutch international has always said he wants to finish his career at Ajax, but not just yet.

Johnny has become a firm favourite with the fans and was player of the season last year.

Johnny said: "There is a big chance that I sign a new contract at Everton.

"I just had a new contract proposal. The deal is not done yet. But I really love it at Everton. Everton is a beautiful club with great fans.

"Right now we do have the squad to reach the Europa League. I want to reach the highest possible. I want to qualify for European football with Everton. With this squad we deserve that."

What do you think? Is Johnny worth a new contract?

Heitinga is a superb defender! One of the best around. He does lack a bit of pace but usually makes up for it with his positioning and experience. He is the only player in our team that can knock a ball 70 yards and it be pin point. He is a calming influence on the defence and we are better when he is in the team. He leads from the back and shows more passion than most! Remember Sunderland away, FA cup quarter final, he got the team to go to the fans and show appreciation. Top player and top professional !!!

The huge problm is that Johnny lacks real pace. Last season saw him with a comfort blanet around him - and fair game he loked good. However with Seamus and Leighton now committed to attack Johnny as a centre back is left very much alone and open to the counter. Us ancient Blues know only too well Kevin Ratcliffe had pace to long for. Johnny certainly no Rats. Now for all us Blue Readers - get a copy of Binman's Chronicles - Neville really was our keeper sublime and while we are on a wave - Leightn is great but Ray Wilson who is hardly ever mentioned on Kipper was your top top left back - even better than Tiger McLaughlin. Look for the two errors in Nevilles book - Sharpey came from Dumbarton and the other - answers on a postcard !

Last season showed he needs to play every week. Do that and he is the best defender we have.

Bri (com #1) If you're thinking he can't do much worse in CM, think again! Phil is having a hard time in there at the moment and he's more of a Midfielder than Johnny ever will be! Johnny will get back to his world class self when he gets finally gets support from MF with the likes of Felli and Gibbo ripping the oposision a new one! Felli will be more up for it than usual too! Let's face it, anyone would with a pit-bull like Gibbo to have you back! Besides, it's only a matter of time before we see Mirallas seal his mark up front with Jelly! Oz can take Kev's old spot @ RM with Nace to cover both! Johnny plays best next to Jags or Buz behind Felli and Gibs! God willing, we'll have all that to come and the 4th will be with us! But if it all goes tit's up forget I said anything

Brian, what planet have you been on? He is awful in midfield! Player of the season as a centre half last term? Never a centre half???????

Honestly, it's the ridiculous to the sublime lately, but I'll take it as we've been playing to our strengths and us Evertonians have been starved of an attack minded team for far too long! Not so long ago we played 4-5-1 with 8 fullbacks on the pitch and every single one of them (apart from Baines) hardly ever ventured out of their own half! Now we are playing a completely different style of play and the back 4 are left exposed at the back! The Opposition know (unless your name's Pardew) it makes more sense to play their more attacking formations than defensive against us (exception to S'hampton) Coz we're the Dog's Nackers going forward! The down side is that we need CMs (like Gibo) to be solid breaking up the opposition's attacks) At the moment Phil is off his game which leaves Johnny with his pants around his ankles! Maybe Tommy and Gibo can come to the rescue! Or Even Felli if he gets his Fro around the idea!

He's never a centre half. Play him in the Gibson role whilst he's injured and he may start looking ok
