Johnny Carey

On this day in 1961 Everton Chairman John Moores invited Manager Johnny Carey for a taxi ride after a visit to the FA in London.

By the time they had arrived at their London hotel Sir John had broken the news that Irishman Carey had been sacked, shortly afterwards Harry Catterick was appointed. 

Evertonian's were grateful to Johnny Carey for bringing the likes of Bobby Collins, Roy Vernon and Alex Young to the club - thanks Johnny.
