On this day in 1989 Everton played Norwich City in the FA Cup Semi Final at Villa Park.

A single goal scored by Pat Nevin was enough to win the game 1-0 and send Everton into the FA Cup Final at Wembley.

Evertonians were ecstatic until the news of the tradgedy at Hillsbough on the same afternoon began to filter through.
