On this day in 1984 the FA Cup Finalists Everton travelled to The Dell for a midweek league match against Southampton.

Everton had just beaten the Saints 1-0 in the Semi Final at Highbury three days earlier.

Southampton took revenge beating us 3-1. Kevin Richardson scoring for the Toffee's.

So we lost but did we care? No, we won the one that mattered, we were off to Wembley our knees had gone all trembley!
