On this day in 1968 Everton played at Goodison Park three days after losing the FA Cup Final to West Brom at Wembley.

Everton put a on real show, albeit too late, thumping Fulham 5-1.

The Everton goals were scored by John Hurst (2), Alan Ball, Johnny Morrissey and Joe Royle.

just reflecting back on that cup final defeat I remember being totally deflated(shell-shocked even). We were all over them like a rash, completely dominating the game when a great solo effort from Jeff Astle won the game for West Brom. I am speaking from memory which isn't too good these days so I hope I have my facts right but I do remember coming away from that match not believing how we could have lost it.

From my position behind the goal at the Everton end I was in line with and had a clear view of Astle's goal. He had posession directly in front on the outer of a jam packed penalty area. There was only one opening for a shot and that was in our top left corner. My blood ran cold when I saw Astle raise his head and I just knew he had seen that chink in our defence.
