On this day in 1989, Paul Bracewell was sold to Sunderland for £250,000. Brace sustained a bad injury at Newcastle in 1986 and was out for almost 20 months and never really made a full recovery.
The midfielder joined Everton in 1984 for £425,000 and proved to be a solid and reliable performer. He formed a partenership with Peter Reid in the engine room and won a League Championship Medal and European Cup Winners' Medal in 1985.
Brace played 142 games for Everton scoring 10 goals. He also won 3 England caps.
