On this day in 1954, a goal by wing half Cyril Lello was enough to give Everton 2 points in the 1-0 win over Preston North End at Goodison Park. Lello was the only Everton player to play in all 42 league games in 1954/55. The right half was also the first Everton player to make 150 consecutive appearances for Everton.

I attended this game as a twelve year old and it was a scorching hot day with people fainting all over the place. I'll never forget that a Preston Lady gave me a piece of orange and that the crowd was over 76,000.
