More On This Day

On this day in 2006, Brian Labone died aged just 66. Forever known as 'The Everton Captain'. Labby played 534 times for his home town club, scoring 2 goals.

Labone won the FA Cup in 1966 and won the league twice in 1962/63 and 1969/70 in a professional career which lasted from 1958 to 1971. The commanding centre half also won 26 caps for England.

Manager Harry Catterick called him "the last of the Corinthians". Labby loved Everton so much he came up with the quote "One Evertonian is worth twenty Liverpudlians"
