Everton Manager - David Moyes

David Moyes

Sorry, well nearly

Only an improved second half performance helped Moyesy from apologizing to the fans at Roda.

Moyesy says: "I thought the supporters were really good and I have to say that I nearly had to go and say sorry to them, especially after the way things turned out in the first half. At least in the second half there was a little bit more to cheer about and it was just unfortunate that it was at the opposite end to them. But I have to thank them because once again they did very well for us and that has always been the case since I have been at the club."

Striker Wanted

David Moyes is playing with the idea of bringing in a forward on a short term basis.

Moyesy said: "I am told Wayne will be missing for a month. That leaves us short as Duncan Ferguson is suspended for the first three games. I may have have to look at bringing someone in - if only on loan - to tide us over. At present we are going into the season with Kevin Campbell, Tomasz Radzinski and Nick Chadwick as our only available forwards. This is a situation I will need to assess carefully."(28/07/03)

Moyesy Keen To Learn

The transfer speculation will go on all Summer, but we don't think anything will happen this week, as Moyesy is a student at a management course for a week, starting today. The manager of the People's Club is eager to pick more management skills, as well as any new training techniques. Also on the course is former Blues' boss Walter Smith. Who'll be getting tips from who? (09/06/03)

Celtic Date Cancelled

Everton had planned to play Celtic in a pre-season friendly, but now play Dundee Utd instead. Due to loosing the league on the final day of the season, Celtic now play in a Champions League qualifier on that date.

Moyesy says: "Being an old Celtic player I would have loved to have played there. It would also have been a wonderful test for us to face both Glasgow clubs in a week. But it wasn't to be and I was desperately disappointed both for Celtic and for us."

Your disappointed. Tell me abar it! (06/06/03)

Manager Of the Year

We all know that MOYES stands for:

M
anager Of the Year to Everton Supporters!!

Now SKY Sports have added to Moyesy's plaudits by nominating him Manager of the Season 2002/2003 beating Sir Alex into 2nd place. Well done Davey Moyes, we can't wait for next season because we know in your hands it will get even better. Congratulations (05/06/03)

I want Wayne to Play

Moyesy says: "I want Wayne Rooney to play for England on Tuesday. I will be pleased if he does. I have no problems with him playing if he is fit. Obviously we would not want him to play if there was any doubt at all." (31/05/03)

The Fans Trust Us

The manager of the People's Club has said that the People's response to him has been fantastic.

Moyesy says: "we didn't win anything, apart from winning the supporters' trust back. They filled the ground and could see that we were trying to do the best for Everton; in the future they will see us continuing to do just that. I have attended functions recently when the Everton fans' response to the season has been fantastic, and I have left wondering what on earth they would be like if we actually won something. I'm hoping to see it." (27/05/03)

We Aim Higher

The Boss has had time to reflect & looks forward to next season.

Moyesy says: "The disappointment hasn't gone away. That hangs with you all summer, but that's football. But we have to realise it's been a good season and the players have made big strides. That's all we asked of them at the start of the campaign. We achieved our objectives which were to improve and to make progress. Those objectives had changed by the end of the season though. You always have to set your sights higher and it looked for long periods as if we would qualify for Europe. For a long time we were in with a shout of the Champions League, then the UEFA Cup and to be pipped on the last day was very disappointing but overall we have to be pleased. It's going to be difficult to match that next season. Most people would think it is going to be tough but that is our objective. No squad has improved as much as we have in one season and our next job is to get even higher. There is no reason why we can't do that next season. The players we have will have to try and deliver the same again. We finished seventh last year but for the majority of the season we were higher than that. We'd like to bring in one or two new faces but we don't want to get into a Leeds situation where we end up having to sell our best players. I want to be at a club that doesn't sell its best players but adds to them and I'm not going to break up anything that's in place. We have Tony Hibbert, Joseph Yobo, Richard Wright and the emergence of Wayne Rooney and that's four very good young players. If it's possible to add to that then we've got the makings of a good team for the next few years to come. Seventh isn't good enough in the sense that we want to be aiming for the top of the league. You can never tell in football, as Leeds showed last season. Everton have been up and down for a few years now so nothing would surprise you. If you look at the clubs who finished above us they have all spent heavily on their squads. Their grounds are refurbished and they have still been able to finance team building. Everton are only at the start of that road. We've got a long way to go to catch them up in terms of spending, but we have shown this season that we are willing to compete with them all." (26/05/03)

Don't Mess With Moyesy

Moyesy wants Wayne Rooney to go on & get a shed full of caps for England, but not when he's injured. He feels that some people doubted his word, & is not happy about it.

Moyesy says: "I felt a little bit that people were disbelieving, but that is not how I work. I can only say that Wayne had an injury and I felt that Everton's integrity was being called into question. We were not trying to kid anybody on, which I would never do. It was a fact he was injured in the last game of the season and we did everything by the rules. We got Wayne checked out, then we attended the England medical last Sunday. England knew that Wayne had been injured from the Monday so they knew exactly the condition of Wayne. They'd seen the scans. We went down and complied with their rules. What Wayne has is a medial injury to his knee and people who understand that will know that you can't kick the ball and you also have difficulty in checking and changing directions and running in a circle. Against everything that people might think, it's a great honour for Wayne and a great honour for Everton and we want that to happen. Wayne's injury might yet keep him out of the Serbia game.
He's been running in a straight line but not kicking a ball, checking or turning, he's got more chance of playing against Slovakia. Hopefully he is fit but obviously England won't want to take a risk with him if he's not quite ready Wayne can run in a straight line and maybe by next week he will be more advanced. We want him playing for England, and who in the country wouldn't want England's number nine playing for them?” (24/05/03)

At least £5m To Spend

Moyesy has £5m to spend on new players. This will be rubber stamped by the board tomorrow night. This is on top of the £4m put aside for Joey Yobo. He will then have to decide if that is enough to rebuild his midfield, or if he will need to offload the likes of Alexandersson, Gemmill, Pembridge, & Carsley to release some much needed wages money, & in the process only recuperating just a couple of million altogether. Or sacrifice his more salable assets, namely Tommy Gravesen (£4m) & Thomasz Radzinski (£10m). David the decision is yours. We trust you! (21/05/03)

Blue Bill Praises Moyesy

Bill Kenwright has yet again worn his heart on his sleeve, in giving praise to The Manager of The Peoples Club. You can't argue with him.
Blue Bill says: "I couldn't be more proud of him. The award was something I expected, I have to say, but words cannot express just how much David Moyes means to Evertonians. He must be one of the greatest managers in the country and I am convinced that he will become one of the greatest managers in the world. I believe he's destined to be a great manager of Everton Football Club. Everything about the man and what he's done for our football club speaks for itself. He's taken us to the brink of Europe. Part of the man's greatness is that right now, he's experiencing the pain that every Evertonian is feeling. That pain will continue with David until he's got us to where he wants us to go."

Kenwrght also said Moyesy won't move on.
Blue Bill says:
"We wont lose him. He is totally committed to the club. He lives, eats, sleeps and breathes Everton, which I know every time I speak to him. He's going nowhere. He's here to do a job for us and he will take us where should be. Our improvement is down to him. He's taken our team and made them 30% fitter, stronger and meaner and gave us a squad we can be proud of. Everton's squad has been committed to wearing their jerseys as any other team in the land. That's the greatest compliment you can play him." (15/05/03)

Manager of The Year

Moyesy, the Premiership's youngest manager has been voted Manager of The Year by the League Managers' Association. All The Premiership Managers voted.
Moyesy says: "I'm delighted and surprised to win the award.
The disappointment we have suffered is immeasurable. Football is about taking opportunities when they come and we had a great opportunity this season. But when things die down, then hopefully we will realise what a good season it has been." He is also one of the Favourites to win the Barclaycard Premiership Manager of The Year. Having won Manager of The Month in November 2002. (13/05/03)

Can't Wait, Won't Wait!

Moyesy says: "It's a brilliant game to be involved in. To welcome the champions to Goodison on the last day of the season will be a fitting climax to our celebrations of 100 years of top-flight football. I hope we can end it with a celebration of our own. The magic thing is that it's in our own hands. If we beat United then it doesn't matter how the Blackburn game goes, we qualify.

I'd like money to improve the squad but I won't know what that will be until after Sunday when we know whether we have qualified for Europe. Even the difference between prize money for sixth and seventh place will be important for us.'' Come on You Blues!! (11/05/03)

Bring It On!

Moyesy has the bit between his teeth already for the big game against Utd on Sunday. You wouldn't expect anything less from the Manager of The People's Club, who has been a revelation this season.

Moyesy says: "We are still two points ahead of our close rivals who are pushing us hard for a Uefa Cup spot with one game to go. We have something to play for and we are going to be involved in a great game next week.” (06/05/03)

Derby Reaction

David Moyes calls for calm after the defeat against the shite and insists we have everything still to play for.

Moyesy said:"We have nothing to be down about, we didn't deserve to go away from the derby with nothing."We ran Liverpool very close - there's not been a league game where we've been whipped."We are certainly not out of anything, and that's a great thing to be saying with four games to go. There's still a Champions League chance, we are still in a UEFA Cup spot - no doubt we would have settled for that at the beginning of the season.

"We've lost the derby, but bettering Liverpool is not what we are after. We want to get a Champions League spot, that's the priority. The players have given everything throughout the season, there's not a league game where we haven't been in with a chance of winning and people were telling me that wasn't the case a couple of years ago."(21/04/03)

I Didn't Swear

David has denied using any foul and abusive language and he will take it all the way if charged.

Moyesy said:“If they want to charge me in any way, I’ll be seeking a personal hearing to put my case forward. I’ll express my opinion and I will contest every word that Mr Bennett has alleged I said. I have witnesses who can vouch very strongly that I didn’t swear and that I didn’t use foul and abusive language.”

“I think that the referee probably had an opinion of me before the game because of the situation at Southampton earlier in the season. I have the people who were standing next to me to vouch for what I really said. There doesn’t seem to be any way of having your say with referees, but I will make my views clear when I am given the opportunity of a hearing.”(14/04/03)

Moyesy In Trouble

Moyesy was sent off yesterday after 38 minutes. He could now get a touchline ban from the FA. He wasn't too happy about the pen given and then went bonkers after a challenge on Wayne.

Ref Bennett said : "David Moyes was removed from the technical area after 38 minutes for foul and abusive language and improper behaviour."

Alan Irvine said: "David felt the referee had made a few mistakes and the tackle came on top of one or two other incidents. He complained about the fact that it was the same referee who gave a controversial penalty against us at Southampton earlier in the season. David didn’t appear to say or do anything outrageous in my opinion. I was listening and thinking if this goes too far then I will pull him back but I didn’t think it had and it seemed like a quick reaction.”

Transfer Money - Same Again

Moyesy expects us to have no money even if we get into the Champion League. But he is not worried one bit. As long as he knows upfront what he dealing with he is happy.

The Boss said:'It's actually not frustrating to have no money for new players. Those we have at present have done well and if we are going to replace them, it will only be with players who don't cost an awful lot of money. There is no way that this club will be spending the likes of £8-9 million on a player at this stage. We quite simply are not in that league and my job is more about putting down the foundations for us to build the team.

'Maybe we will be in the situation one day of being able to spend major sums, but even if we qualify for the Champions League this season, there won't be any real money for me to spend. It's no big deal to me. If the club find £2m for me to spend on new players this summer, then fine. Nobody should whinge about not having any money to spend and if that remains the case for another couple of years, then I'll deal with it.

'The reason I did not pursue a permanent deal for Brian McBride was because the Major League in the US wanted £1m for him. Brian did a terrific job for us in the time he was at Goodison Park, but I already have two strikers in their 30s and I did not feel it would be a wise move to spend so much on another one. It wouldn't have been good value for our money.' (23/03/03)

Wayne Will Play When I Say

Is he having a go at Sven or us? Out of the 30 Premiership games The Duke has been involved in 25 of them, suspended for four, & left out of just 1.

Moyesy says: “If you look at Wayne's matches, he's been in the squad for every Premiership game he's been available for, and he's come on in every game bar one this season. I prefer not to look at how much he's played recently, I'd look at the fact that he started the season as a 16-year-old.” (22/03/03)

Moyesy To Be Offered New Contract

With Everton riding high in the top 6 for weeks on end, there has been more speculaton in the media over the weekend surrounding the future of the manager of the People's Club. Bill Kenwright has come saying he's going nowhere.

Blue Bill says: "I know the man and I'm 100% sure he is dedicated to Everton. He is thrilled with the way things are going and has no intention of going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Sure, he feels that pain of our FA Cup defeats at Shrewsbury and one or two other places, just as we all do. But he is a true blue, first-class, red-haired Evertonian who is having the time of his life. All he is thinking about is Everton Football Club." (17/03/03)

Ist Anniversary

It has been a year of Moyesy in charge and what a year it has been, but David is not one for anniversaries and birthdays, he would rather look forward.
He knows he has still along way to go, however in his 38 games in charge we've earned 62 points a remarkable turn around with the majority of the squad being those who struggled under Walter. The style of play is a wonderous improvement and each week it just seems to get better, Europe beckons in a season where at the outset we would have been happy with a Top 10 finish!
Moyesy, as we have come to expect, is still not satisfied whilst we are delighted with the progress.
Thanks for the story so far Davy, from all at Blue Kipper and every other Evertonian - long may it continue!

Moyesy said:"I know it doesn't seem like a year at all. I'm not a great one for birthdays or anniversaries and I never have been. Others mention them more than me."

It is still early days in comparison to where I would like us to be and where I want to take the club. We've not got all the foundations in place that are needed to sustain this level and we have to try and do that. We've started with some but it's going to take another couple of years to get them all in place. At the moment we are still built on sand a bit, a few building blocks have gone in but there's more to do to sustain and build on the level we're at now.

"What we have at Everton, which maybe other clubs who've enjoyed great seasons in the Premiership and then fell away did not, is the Everton Football Club itself, which has got the tradition, has had the success - and not on an irregular basis but is part of the club's history. Now we need to put more building blocks in place, we need to keep building from underneath. We may not have a team back in this position again for a few more years, I don't know, but that's why we need to make sure we continue progressing every season."(14/03/03)

Moyesy Puts His Boots on Again

The Boss of The People's Club is to play for John Parrott's 'over the hill mob', this Sunday 9th March 2003.at Marine FC. Kick Off: 1.00pm. Other Toffeemen likeley to play in this Friendly Charity game against the shite are Joe Parkinson, Graeme Sharp, Paul Lodge, Mark Ward, & Dave Watson. Don't forget there's no such thing as a friendly. (06/03/03)

Forget The Shite

Moyesy doesn't want to think about any team other than Everton.

“Everton are the consideration.Where we are, what we’re doing, how we stay there is important to me just now. At present, we’re going in the right direction, which is what I wanted us to do and this is the start I knew we would require. Mentioning ********* is an easy thing to do – but Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur are good sides too. I think if we finish above those clubs, then that will be a great success. (03/03/03)

Summer Holiday

Moyesy and the boys flew off to Jerez in Spain today. He hopes it will give the players a lift before the final 10 games

Moyesy said:"We are going over to train for the week and prepare for the final furlong.I have been there before and the training pitches are fantastic. Hopefully the change of scenery will freshen the boys up a little, too. I feel we just need to recharge our batteries for the final furlong.”(03/03/03)

Scouting Trip

Moyesy was at Molineux last night to see Wolves beat Ipswich 4-2. We have it on good authority that Moysey was casting an eye over the young Ipswich stars, midfielder Darren Ambrose & forward Darren Bent & not Paul Ince. (20/02/03)

Moyesy Wants More

Although pleased to be up there with a chance of a European place, Moyesy thinks we should be higher up the league.
Moyesy says: "Obviously we have to admit we are delighted with the position we are in. We're coming to the end of February and we are still in contention to be involved in the European places, which we now have to try and push for if possible. We should have picked up more points and as a matter of fact I'm actually disappointed we are not further up the table.
I can't say where I hope to finish, but I do feel we have dropped a few points lately where I feel we should have picked them up, so from that point of view we should be higher up."

Don't you just love him. He just says the right things. (17/02/03)

Fake Tan

Referee Jeff Winter has spit the dummy out. He said "This is the first time I have heard about this because I have been out of the country but I am sure it something my bosses will take action on. If Moyes bothered to check with me he would have known that I don't go in for artificial tans - I had a break in Dubai last month. It was much better."

Apparently Moyesy said Winter was a "big-time homer" and claimed he was more interested in his "rub-on sun tan" following the Charlton game. What's the problem? (14/02/03)

If You're Good Enough You're Old Enough

David Moyes is delighted that Wayne will make History, by winning his first England cap. Rooney will break the 124-year record held by James Prinsep when he plays at Upton Park. The Clapham Rovers player was 17 years and 252 days old when he made his England debut against Scotland at The Oval in 1879. The Duke will be only 17 years and 111 days old on Wednesday.

Moyesy says: "He's now mixing with all the top players. Maybe he might be overawed by it, I don't know. He's not fully mentally developed or mature yet but on a football pitch he's as good as any of them.

"If he's good enough then it's right he should be selected, and Wayne is good enough. It doesn't matter how old he is.

"He's delighted to be included and we're all really pleased for him. It's a credit to himself and how far he has come so quickly. But this is just the start of a long road for him. "He's only a young boy and everyone must be careful not to put too much pressure on him. But now all his Christmases have come together."

David Moyes is Merseyside Sports Personality of 2002

Moyesy was named Merseyside Sports Personality of 2002 last night. He gave thanks the Everton Board of Directors for giving him the chance. He didn't let the opportunity pass without saying something about our neighbours.

He said:I have sat here tonight and listened to Ron Yeats speak with great passion about Liverpool and the rivalry here on Merseyside. But, just for the moment Ron, we are ahead of you in the table and that's something we are proud of. It's a special honour, especially when you have just come to a city like Liverpool and had the people take to you. From my first day - it took us 29 seconds to score a goal - I felt that someone was looking after me.

Moyesy also had the pleasure of presenting Howard with The Dixie Dean Memorial Award.

Moyesy said:"one of the greatest Everton players and the greatest manager."

Howard said:"That's the second time that David Moyes has presented me with an award in recent months. Hopefully I will be presenting one or two to him in the future."(04/02/03)

A Thank You To Mick and Boys

We are close to having everyone fit. Chadders, Hibbo, Toby and Big Dunc are all starting full training this week. Moyesy has given credit to the medical team.

He said:"I hope the fitness is a lot to do with our physio Mick Rathbone, and we have improved our medical set-up here. The players have worked very hard with the fitness coach and they feel strong physically and mentally. I hope their football is developing, people are now saying we are trying to play good stuff and we are doing the right things more often than not."

Is It Safe? - Of Course It Is

We are safe. The achievement David and his team have made this season can't be under-estimated. The fact that we have 39 points with still 14 games to play is a fantastic effort.

Moyesy said: "The first thing was to ensure we were still a Premiership club and the next thing was to see if we can do better than that. That's exactly where we are. Forty points in the Premiership was safety. We have 39 now so we are just about home and dry. That would be the first goal achieved. I would not put myself or the players under any pressure by saying there is a second step."(22/01/03)

Terrific Fans

Moyesy insisted the the Goodison crowd played their part in Saturdays victory against Sunderland.

He said: “For 20 minutes in the second half the atmosphere was fantastic and the crowd played a big part in the win. They were terrific and no doubt the fact that Brian scored both our goals was special for them.”(20/01/03)

Ally - Scoring Just For A Day

Ally McCoist, TV Presenter, & ex Rangers & Scotland centre forward has got himself in a wee bit of bother, after being found out again. Ally who does his scoring these days in the nightclubs, was rumoured to become Everton's new forward coach. Yer having a laugh! The manager of The Peoples Club explains.

Moyesy says: "Ally was on a coaching course I was involved in last summer and I suggested then that he should come and work with our strikers for a day. That was it.

It was something which was said between friends and it has been a bit over-stated in the media this morning. Ally has contacted me this morning and he is distraught at the way the story has come out."

I Expect

After the shock defeat by Shrewsbury in the FA Cup last week. Moyesy expects the players to bounce back.

Moyesy says: “I want the players to give me a real performance, a stronger and tougher performance than what I saw last week. I feel for the supporters who went to Shrewsbury, but if any of them felt as disappointed as I felt, well I know how bad they were. I’d rather be in every cup competition than just focusing on the league. We have sixteen league games to go now and it will be a massive achievement and a massive task to stay where we are now – and if anything, do better.” (11/01/03)

Training At Goodison

Due to the big freeze, which has effected the whole country, Everton trained at Goodison Park for the first time this season. The pitches at Bellefield were frozen, so this week the training will be either indoors at Bellfield or on the pitch at Goodison.
Moyesy says: “We have had the under soil heating on for the last two days, but it is still solid. It is difficult trying to get any quality of training in but we will work inside again this morning and then go to Goodison this afternoon.”
(09/01/03)

We Must Learn From Cup Exit

The manager of The People's Club has come out & said we must learn after being dumped out of the cup by Shrewsbury.

Moyesy says: “This is the first real setback for me here at Everton. We cannot do anything about it now and we just have to look at it and move on to the next game. We will learn from this. There has been an awful lot of nice things said about us. Obviously now the opposite is going to happen but you have to be big enough to take that and hopefully improve from it.

I certainly will, it is all part of the job and the players must get back out there and show that this hasn’t affected them too much.” (06/01/03)

What The Fans Think

Give Us A Break

The Boss has said we should go Scottish & have a two week break in January. We agree. Can't it be back dated? Starting last Saturday.

Moyesy says: “I’ve said a couple of times that we should all have a two-week break, starting after the New Years Day game. I don’t think we will ever change the period over Christmas and New Year but I think everybody in football needs a two-week break. I wouldn’t want a longer break, but it would give the supporters a chance to perhaps save some cash after Christmas.” (05/01/03)

New Signings Will Have To Earn Their Places

Brian McBride & Ibrahim Said will join the 1st team squad, subject to work permits being granted, but won't walk straight into the 1st eleven.

Moyesy says: "Both these players are coming in as cover, I have to state that. They're not players who are coming to walk straight into the team, our current players are doing well, we just need some backup. They haven't signed yet, because the deals are subject to work permits - and until they get the work permits, then they're not our players. We do hope they will be ours and we don't envisage any major problems, but we have to be sure that those permits are granted.” (04/01/03)

Ho Ho Ho

Moyesy says: “I would like to wish all our supporters a wonderful Christmas. We are really pleased with the team has played since the start of the season and delighted with the way the supporters have got behind the team. No player has been singled out for criticism and we thank and urge you to keep up this fantastic support.” (25/12/02)

Loving It At The Top

Moyesy has revealed he's one of us, & he's just as excited as the fans.
Moyesy says:
“There’s added pressure comes from being at the top of the table because we want to stay there. It’s much better being here than fourth from bottom. But I can tell you I’m excited. That’s how we feel. It’s a passionate game. I think it’s great. I’m delighted for the players. Why should we hide our emotions? We’ve had some good results this season and we hope that there’s more to come between now and the end of the season.” He's got red hair, but we don't care. (23/12/02)

The Derby - Moyesy Confident

David Moyes hasn't said a wrong word since he joined us. He continues with his latest views on the derby game.

Moyesy says: “It's a big game and one that I'm certainly looking forward to. It's a privilege to be the manager of Everton and I'm sure there's thousands of Evertonians who would love to be in my position to take a side to Anfield, I'm just lucky to have been given that chance. I think Evertonians are rightly pleased with their players right now and they've got a lot more belief, as we go in there ahead of Liverpool, and we want to stay in that position at the end of Sunday's game. There's great excitement. No matter what derby you play in, they're important to everybody. I think there's a little more importance because of the way the league table is standing at the moment. It's not just another game. It means a lot more to a greater number of people, which adds that little bit of pressure. You want to win it for the supporters, just as much as for anyone else. The realistic part is that there's three points at stake at the end of it and we want those points. It could make or break one set of supporters Christmas. I just hope that we go there and play to the best of our ability and of course I'd love it if the Blue half have the better Christmas!” (21/12/02)

All Together Now

David Moyes is really happy with everything at the moment and he hopes it will continue for a very long time.

He said: "It's just the start of a very long road where we are all are going together - supporters, myself, players. We hope we continue to see good Everton teams and winning Everton teams in the future. It's just the start and we are enjoying it."

"We are not surprised but we are delighted, and long may it continue. We have done better than most people would have expected us to do, I don't really know what I expected other than that I expect us to win every game. Obviously that doesn't happen. But we have done well at this stage, I'm aware of that." (01/12/02)

I'm Not Interested

Our boss always says the right things. When quizzed about contracts his reply was what every Evertonian wanted to hear.

He said:"It is the least important thing on my agenda at the moment. I am not motivated by money and I don’t think there is any point in discussing new deals. I don’t know where I stand in the tables of payments among my fellow managers and it doesn’t matter to me.”(26/11/02)

January Sales

David Moyes has stated that it will be not be queuing up in the January sales. He is resigned that he will play the rest of the season with the squad he has got.

David said:“We will have to get by with the squad we have. I don’t want to dampen expectation but it is not realistic for us to be going out and buying a £10 million player. That’s not going to happen here at the moment, we are going to have to go through the season with what we have got."

"The most important players are the ones who are already at the club not the one who are out there and you might be looking to buy."(16/11/02)

Recipe For Success

Moyesy has watched Can't cook, Can't cook & The Naked Chef and feels he has come up with the recipe for success - keeping and attracting quality young players. In just over 8 months Moyesy has performed miracles from 'The People's Club' statement on day one to the current run, an amazing transformation.
"The only way to keep your best players here is to have a successful team,'' said Moyes. "I can understand why good young players have left here in the past. So I have to get things done quickly and start moving in the right direction to keep and attract good young players.
"The youth academy is very important to me, and I hope we will be moving to a new set-up where the youth and senior players are together.
"We've had a great conveyor belt of talent in the past. I hope that continues and they want to stay with us in the future because we are successful.
"But there is no quick fix. I think the club has progressed over the last few months and I would like to thank the players for that.'' We'd like to thank you too Davy! (12/11/02)

We Have Got Someone Special

Praise is coming thick and fast for David Moyes and deserves every bit of it. He has pushed us up the league with some top performances from his team. Even the training is enjoyable. The players can't wait to get into work everyday.

David Unsworth said: "David Moyes has come in and turned the club around. He's brought in players like Richard Wright and Joseph Yobo to add quality and works us very hard in training. We train as we play. We pass the ball and the atmosphere is fantastic. The manager is also a tremendously ambitious person. It has rubbed off on us and we have got both confidence and belief - two big words in football. (07/11/02)

We haven't won anything yet

David is staying calm and he is trying to calm all the fans down, which is a difficult task.

Moyesy says: "We've got a lot of confidence about the place at the moment but I don't think I've had any success yet. We've won some games and we've given people reason for optimism but we need to keep working hard. The players have done everything we have asked of them so far as they got us away from the threat of relegation last season and they've kicked on again and we are doing well. If there are bigger expectations now it's a good thing"(06/11/02)

Incredible Fans

David Moyes has saluted the fans after again bringing the house down this time at Leeds.

Moyesy says : "When the players came out [against Leeds] the reception they got from the fans really lifted them. They are right behind them and I am delighted they were rewarded with a win like that."
He added: "The scenes when Wayne scored were incredible, they were so excited, not just for Wayne but because the team is producing some top quality performances."
