More Something Fishy
Reports in Scotland say that Everton may hold talks with Rangers midfielder, Rhys McCabe this week.
McCabe became one of the first players to reject Charles Green's newco.
The 19 year old broke into the first team last season. Playing nine games. Macca (to his mates) is also a Scottish Under 21 International

Do you think we can get the shirt of Ally McCoist's back as well?

I agree whole heartedly with dogger. Rangers were my second team (having spent some of my childhood in Scotland) but they are no more. This Newco "The Rangers" means nothing to me as it is fronted by Charles Green; a man who has publicy stated he is in it for the short term. Mr Green has made a huge error in judgement in thinking that buying the club for £5.5 million he could make a quick buck! I couldn't give a toss about The Rangers and if we have the opportunity to snap up Naismith and McCabe then happy days! Good luck to all genuine Rangers fans out there. I hope that a proper Football Club with the best intentions of the fans is founded and that it grows into a Club that one again they can be proud of!

Rangers, as a company, is no more. Their cheating and 'win at all costs' mentality has finally come home to roost. I won't be shedding a tear for this backwards, sectarian institution. Players who were employed by the company formerly known as Rangers can go and get themselves another job in the same way as everyone else could if their employer went into liquidation.
Dogger, Stanley Park, 1:49 PM 13/07/2012

Gareth - I have sympathy for the Rangers fans - but really bad management at their club has brought about all this. And as has already been stated the people running Rangers were prepared to try and dodge paying tax whilst spending their way to several titles. Clubs like Everton have been prepared to try and stay within their means whilst the likes of Rangers and Portsmouth won trophies by spending money they hadn't really got !!They brought it on themselves.

So that makes it ok Zarbastardo? By the way Dan you could say the same for numerous clubs who have spent beyond there means who have dodgy boards unable to explain huge defecits in there statements like to the tune of 20 million plus. Whilst most of the shares in the company are held in trusts overseas. Oh wait isn't that us? Yes the actions of Green and Murray was disgusting, but that is not the fault of the club or it's supporters. Would Naismith have been happy to have remained there if his injury was bad enough for other clubs to steer clear?

The demise the abomination that is Rangers should be a bonus for all well meaning individuals in the modern world. An institution based on prejudice and sectarianism has no place on the modern world. Good riddance to the last symbol of British apartheid !

This lad is a decent prospect. On a free its great business. To Gareth I say this:
Rangers no longer exist in the form they were so the players can rightfuly refuse to join the newco.
The players last year took a huge cut in wages to keep the club afloat. Part of the deal to take the cut in wages was that they could leave at a reduced fee. This under the newco would not have applied.
At no point did Mr Green keep the players informed of what was happenig with the club and further more could not even return phone calls to players even though they repeatedly tried to get ibformation from him. So the players took the decision to exercise their rights.
I do feel sorry for the fans even though some of them r that bigheaded they feel they have the right to threaten whoever objects to their clubs blatant disregard to the rules. When it comes to gicing a nominal fee, why not pay it to the other clubs that r still owed money and face going bust because of their behaviour or the taxman or anyone of the many business' s that r facing the threat of going bust. If the previous Rangers board had shown any respect for their fans they would not have done what they did. If Mr Green had showed any respect for the players or the other SPL clubs the newco would not b going through this. Fuck them and do what is best for Everton.

We have Bill Kenwright to thank, that we are not in Rangers mess; he's always said he would only sell Everton to 'investors' who genuinely had the interest of Everton at heart. Rangers (without their fans knowledge) sold their soul, and haven't ended up in heaven!!

Given Rangers are going to be playing in the lower leagues they'd be getting rid of a few players anyway. Would it be fair for Green to buy the club for 5 million and immediately sell off the assets for more than that when the original Ranger's creditors have all lost out? I feel for their fans but not for the club.
Peter, West Midlands, 9:33 PM 12/07/2012

Let no-one feel sorry for Rangers. It was all ok when they had money and could bully everybody. Remember Shaggy Stevens and Tricky Trev? Move the clock on and then there was Michael Ball. Getting a gem like Jelly was justice. Naisy is ours, TUPE law could hardly be more black and white. If Moyesie fancies Young Rhys he should sign him

Rangers had us off good style with both Gary and Trevor Steven {s }... I applaud Blue Bill and Moysie for trying to get the best for OUR club.
If I failed to pay my taxes do you think anyone would show me any sympathy or mercy.
If Davy Wier gives the nod sign the kid.

Im sure Rangers didnt pay the going rate for Trevor Steven all them years ago. So screw them.

Oh to hell with Liverpool and RANGERS too, throw them all in the Mersey and we’ll fight fight fight, with all our might for the boys in the Royal Blue Jersey!! ....its is a shame for the players, offer him the contract, worst that could happen is we sell him on and make a profit. COYB

I hope that he is the next best thing, but will this yet again be another young Everton signing, that we will never see in the first team?

Naismith has been on the radar long before the demise of Rangers as he was seen as a top player and highly recommended by Weir and Nico, he could be Moyes's best ever bit of business !
As for McCabe if we are interested why not, Weir knows whats he is looking at, and he could be a great prospect, hell if we dont someone else will, and we are doing nothing wrong.
LES, PHUKET, 6:29 PM 12/07/2012

why care about rangers? were Evertonians and if swooping on a dying club for someone who is going to better us then so be it! Rangers got themselves there so they deserve to lose their assets

Re Gareth's comment below, Rangers/Sevco/Newco/Deadco have been pinching the best talent in Scotland for years for absolutely nothing. They are/were a disgusting establishment who deserve no sympathy at all. Even after they have broken all rules, paid no tax and acted shamefully they are still trying to prevent players making a living elsewhere. No class at all. Horrible, horrible club, supported by horrible people.
Thank God I'm a Toffee!
P.S McCabe looks a decent prospect anyway!

I thought Ball had to hit a certain amount of games before the team formerly known as rangers paid us and as he didn't they didn't need pay us.
Why would we pay newco anything when the player isn't there's? I might as well ask for some money if that's the case!!!
Don, Liverpool, 4:27 PM 12/07/2012

I don't agree with Gareth's statement (below), though I do understand how disheartening it must be for Rangers fans seeing their players jump ship. But remember, Everton have had their fair share of vultures hovering over the football club for years.
Mr Burns, Springfield, 3:55 PM 12/07/2012

Rangers legally have no leg to stand on. TUPE law is very simple and clear. You cannot buy an employees contract they have to agree to move companies anything else is tantamount to slavery. As for vulture over the carcass hmm excuse me if I don't cry bad financial management and greed have caused the fall. You bought the ticket and take the full ride.
Syndex, Gibraltar, 3:34 PM 12/07/2012

Gareth maybe Rangers can take the nominal fee out of the money they still owe Everton for Micheal Ball.

Didnt we have to write off some of the money owed to us by Rangers following the sale of Michael ball ? Hmmm shoe on the other foot now !!
Seymok, Kirkby, 3:03 PM 12/07/2012

1. If the lad hasnt signed a contract with Rangers then we don't have to pay them a cent and 2. you're defending a team who didnt pay tax for years and used that extra money to win multiple titles, when for the last decade or so we've lived on a shoestring doing things the correct way?? I think thats a very odd position to have from an Evertonian really. I say if the lads good enough, go get him and hopefully whats happened to Rangers, and what should have happened to Pompey (twice now), is a lesson to other clubs not to break the rules and run clubs properly
David, Ormskirk, 2:39 PM 12/07/2012

@ Gareth, the difference is we are solvent, and the players are under contract. If we are ever in the same position as the Rangers situation, do you honestly think that we won't be scavengesd as well? The position they find themselves in is self inflicted, and the action of Green was cynical.
Zarbastardo, CT, ZA, 2:39 PM 12/07/2012

Pipe down Gareth, Rangers brought this on themselves. It's business at the end of the day.
Dan, Runcorn, 2:29 PM 12/07/2012

Disgusting! The club is acting like bloody vultures over a carcass. Why don't they offer Rangers a nominal fee? Too think Moyes tries to take the moral high ground when clubs come in for our players, guaranteeing top money. I genuinely hope Green is successful in court.
Gareth, Australia, 2:02 PM 12/07/2012

Until the Naismith thing is sorted then surely another move for an ex-Rangers player would be daft, unless they dont have a leg to stand on in the first instance. So if thats the case...GO FOR IT.
