Matt Phillips is the latest young star to be linked with Everton.

This was rumoured way back in May and there may be something in it. Matty, to his mates, has played over sixty times for Blackpool in various forward positions

I wonder if Seamus Coleman be used to get the deal done. Ian Holloway is a massive fan of Seamus and a swap deal may not be out of the question.

Shame to say it after he burst on the scene with such promise but Coleman is a Championship player, the quicker we acknowledge that the better. Nowhere near good enough for Everton. Get rid, improve and move on.

Coleman, unfortunately is yet another young talent who looked so promising, but after a season or two, it has become clear has has nothing to offer than some 'head down and run at em' determination. Every game he was involved in last season he was very poor. Nowhere near good enough at defending to be a right-back, and doesn't have the tricks or skill to be a good winger in the Premier League. Championship is his level. A shame, but that's the reality of it.

Don't think this will happen. Yes Seamus had a disappointing season compared with his first, but he still has alot of pace and skill and can be a defenders nightmare. Hence that clattering from Villarreal as he was making a fool of the defender. I dont think he was the same after. Seamus on form along with Pienaar on the left will give up plenty exciting options with or without Phillips.

I don't know enough about Phillips to give a honest assessment. What I can say is that we went to every minute of every game last season and when Coleman played he was very 1 dimensional. Run at the defender in a straight line and hope the ball comes out in his favour. No repetoire. As for his defending......Gerrard, Wembley, misery!

Coleman is a right back. There's no argument about it. He is too limited to play on the right of midfield. Left backs all over the country are onto him now. The surprise element has gone, as shown by his mediocre performances at right mid last season. As a right back he offers much more, and would be good overlapping a natural winger, as well as having good defensive qualities. Phillips, as good as he has been for Blackpool, is a Championship player, and would be a gamble. Ok, granted, so were Cahill and Lescott. But they were calculated gambles, and scouted over long periods. With Coleman, we know he can play at Premier League level. I wouldn't swap him for Phillips, and I don't think Moyes would either.

I think this would be good deal if it came off. We need some pace in our team and lets face it Coleman is not prem class. He looked good when he first broke into the team, but as gone backwards. He was found out last season.

Cant believe people can't see that Seamus is a very talented right back/midfielder who's a real attacking threat with the occasional goal. Regular first team season after next.

Know it was only against Morecambe but thought Coleman looked to be getting back to his best yesterday?

And all these comments assume that the Toffees will get Phillips for peanuts - that being the case you are having a laugh.

It's a strange one for me to consider being a Blackpool fan. I loved Seamus while we had him - there's no doubting his talent and ability but I can't see a straight swap for Matty Phillips happening to be honest. I dont think Oyston or Ollie would want that. Our weakest position is undoubtedly right back, Neal Eardley just isn't good enough and the majority of our goals are conceded through him I would say. While I would welcome seamus back and feel our back four would be rock solid with him playing, Matty is one of the few players we have that will undoubtedly be an incredible player, him and Tom Ince. Oyston would rather flog him for three or four mill and spend one mill of that replacing him and bank the rest - that's jut what he's like.

I don't agree Chris. I don't see Coleman as our long-term RB. I see him more as competition for RM. Hibbert and Neville are getting on, but I would leave sorting out a long-term RB to next year unless we do sell Baines (hope not) and use the cash for two full-backs: right and left.

While Captain fanastic and Hibbo are getting on I can't see Seamus getting past them in the next 3 years. This takes Coleman to 27. If we can get a good deal for Phililps, get it done, pace and direction exactly what we need for premierhip. I'm sorry Coleman as good as he has done for us ain't going to take us further. New fast blood required.

Reckon this would be a good signing. With the strength we have in centre mid, if we get some pace added on the wings we could be a real threat. Pure pace is something we've been lacking for a while and could add something to our game. Adding quality youth from the championship had done us well before, and add these players to our core of Felli, Baines, Jag, Jelavic etc, things will be looking good.

I can't see Seamus wanting to drop down a division at this stage of his career, just when he is trying to break into his national team on a more regular basis.

Chris, thats a really good point and I agree. It would be ridiculous to let Seamus Coleman leave, as he's only 23 and is a talented player of who I think we still need in our squad.

Oh yes please, i'm up for this! Bit of pace and directness is just what we need from the wing and whilst he needs some polishing up, he's a threat from the right hand side. Coleman clearly isn't good enough for the Prem, either at full back or midfield and it's painful to watch him struggle through games. God forbid if he got switched to RB, he would be skinned every match! Hibberts on 29/30 so has plenty of years left in him.

No chance not a swap, Hibbo and Phil are our only right backs at the moment and while they are good they are old, Coleman may be playing in the midfield at the moment but he is a right back don't forget, so swapping a young talent in a position you only have old veterans in is a silly move for anyone and i couldn't see Moyes making a decision like that.
