Jack and Sid and Ross
Bookmark and Share

Jack's gone and that's a pity. We wish him all the best and hope his injury-hit, stalled career gets off to a fresh start. It's probably the best move for both parties, as was Wayne Rooney's exit.

Meanwhile, TV darts commentator Sid Waddell has died aged 72. He was much loved by those of us who cherish the English language and its regional accents and dialects. Anyone who can help promote darts - basically a pub junk sport - to mad TV ratings figures has to have something going.

We will remember him with huge affection as the inventor of lurid phrases such as, "Sport o' the highest calibre!" after somebody chucked accurately three pieces of sharpened metal from a few metres into a piece of compressed bristle-and-cork. The point being he meant every wonderful word he uttered in that inimitable north east accent. Darts would have made it into the Olympics had it been his decision. All us lovers of arrers will miss him greatly.

We'll miss Jack too. Good luck to him.

Good Luck Jack just didn't quite work out for you at Everton, probably come back for nowt in 2 years. As for Sid, what a bloke he was, this is my favourite quote "William Tell could split an apple on your head, Taylor could take out a processed pea"

Puts it into perspective. One a legend, one wth a dodgy leg. Who made more money and gave more? Good luck to Jack, he'll need a cushion to stop splinters in his @rse, and thanks for the memories Sid. Which one will be remembered most in 10years?

God bless Sid Waddell. One of the few Geordies I could nearly understand. A true National Treasure.

Sad news on the one and only Sid. Once made Taylor miss a nine darter by getting too excited in the commentary box after he had thrown 8 perfect arrows. Good money for Rodwell, now get Adam Johnson.

Well Jack going is the best thing that could have happend for Everton. Don't get the negative comments. We were only moaning 24 hours ago at lack of transfer activity. Now we should have close to 20 mill to get a decent attacking midfielder, right back and striker. Good luck to Jack. I'm not disappointed. He's no Wayne Rooney. COYB

This was a man of great passion for his 'sport'. Loved watching darts just to hear his famous comments, of which there were thousands, my favourite being 'the greatest comeback since Lazarus'

agree with everything except saying rooney was good for both parties. rooney left with about an hour of the tranfer market left open, wasn't good for us at that point, he left us in the sh** and knew it. he didnt care & to make it worse it was for the mancs

RIP Sid. Legend. I remember him calling Jocky Wilson an 'athlete'. But he was a decent working class man who loved working class culture. A rarity on TV these days.
