With the news that Darron Gibson is out for up to a month and Ross Barkley is off onloan for a month, David Moyes is on the lookout for a midfield player out of contract who Everton can sign pronto.
Belgian Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe would have been the ideal replacement, but that deal went tits up. So Thomas Hitzlsberger (Tommy to his mates) may be the answer.
The 30 year old with the hammer of a left foot was released by Wolfsburg at the end of last season. Fans will remember him in claret and blue for the 'ammers and Villa. Hitz has over 50 German caps.
Moyesy said: "I feel we're a little short now in midfield, because Darron Gibson is out for a month, and I have to think longer term with Ross Barklay and look at his development, so it's time to allow him to go out on loan.
"Because of the situation with Ross I'm a bit disappointed over losing Vadis, because I'm a bit worried we do need cover. I've possibly got to look at players now who are out of contract, to maybe give us some cover over the next few months.
"There are not many around, especially without contracts, which are the only players we can sign right now, but I am looking."
