Everton Look At Manninger
Bookmark and Share

Everton's search for a second keeper continues. With Jan Mucha retiring from international football and saying he may look for another club, David Moyes was thought to favour ex Celtic keeper Artur Boruc, but nothing has materialised.

Now whispers are reaching us that Alex Manninger maybe offered a trial at Finch Farm. The Austrian international has made a career of sitting on the bench and coming in for the odd game for plenty of high profile clubs, notably Arsenal, Fiorentina, AC Siena and most recently Juventus.

Now 35, Alex has been released by Juve and is now a free agent.

What do you think?

We had a couple of decent young keepers in John Ruddy & Iain Turner but they were let go to get more football. We need to look for a young, hungry lad who won't mind being a number 2 for the next couple of seasons and then be in a position to challenge Tim Howard. Butland looks the obvious choice and fits the bill or Wayne Hennesy from Wolves is another potential choice

Jan Mucha has impressed me as one of the most terrifying things in the "green jersey" The old lady next door would prove more solid than him Craig Gordons fall from grace was almost spectacular, is there an "unseen story" there ? But I wholeheartedly agree with the principle of developing young guns Surely as US goalkeeping coach Chris Woods must be on the lookout for a young septic with good hands ?

For a second choice keeper that wont play more than 5 games this season, wouldn't Craig Gordon be ideal on a free?

Why not offer Craig Gordon a deal? Would be cheap. Knows the prem. A big lad and would be quite cheap.

I hear Peter Shilton is looking for a return to football, being serious we would be better dragging "Big Nev" out of retirement than signing this waster

Long shot I know but, any chance we can get John Ruddy back? Even if it costs us, I think he'd be ideal!

I think Everton will never produce a decent young keeper all the time we keep looking for journeyman pros to sit on the bench . Mucha for me has been a disaster of a keeper . Much sooner see a youngster given a game in Carling ( or whatever it is now ) Cup . Even if howard got injured it would just be a baptism of fire and a chance worth taking .
