Shane joined Everton's Acedemy as a 16-year-old from his home country of Northern Ireland late in 2008. He made a great impression and did well enough to be offered a place as a 1st year scholar the following summer.
From there Shane quickly moved through the Under-18's and into the ressies, also being capped by Northern Ireland from Under-16 right through to Under-21 and then 'B' level, even being called into the Full International squad for the game against Italy.
The next step at club level was the EFC 1st team squad and Shane made his first team bow during the summer 2009 friendlies. After being named on the bench on a number of occassions, he eventually made his first team debut as a sub during the 1-0 Europa League win away to AEK Athens, followed by his full debut at home to BATE Borisov (0-1) in the same competition.
