Play for the Shirt

Stevie Wat has urged the team to start getting their act together and Sundays game against Bologna is the perfect time to start

Stevie said:Now it is time to really start raising our game. It is our last competitive game before the start of the new season against Bologna on Sunday and there is no question that we are all playing for our shirts now.
No-one is assured of a place against Arsenal that's for sure. We've all got to stand up and be counted and show we deserve a place in that team. We still have the same collection of players that should have taken the club into Europe last season and our realistic aim for the new season is to go one better. We don't believe that this season is all about consolidation, we believe it is about improving and finishing higher than last season's seventh place."(07/08/03)

Get Forward

Stevie Watson is determined to get forward as much as he can. The more chances he gets the more goals he will score. The Dundee game was frustrating but Steve still managed a few efforts even though he was on for the last 30 minutes.

Stevie said: "From my own point of view, I got half an hour or so and I managed to get a few efforts on goal which is pleasing because I've missed a couple of days training this week. I still feel there's a lot more to come from me and there’s a lot more goals to come.
In every game I play in now, I'm trying to get forward a lot more and get more chances which to a certain extent I did tonight and hopefully I'll get the opportunity to do so on Saturday." (31/07/03)

Wato: "It's in our own Hands"

After dropping vital points at home against strugglers, West Ham on Saturday Steve Watson still believes we can get into Europe.

Wato says: "We've found ourselves in fourth place and yet haven't built on it. We dropped two points at Middlesbrough and now two against West Ham. At the Riverside the draw felt like a defeat and it was a similar feeling in the dressing room after this one. We are all very disappointed. We know we can do better and we have to. I can't put my finger on what went wrong but the effort in the squad cannot be faulted and we will fight all the way to get into Europe this season. It is still up to us." (17/03/03)

Wato Back With A Bang

Stevie has given the team a big boost with his return. Not only has he played well, (he's got 4 Blue Kipper Star man nominations to date), but also he has been on the score sheet 4 times in his last 4 league games. The need for goals from midfield is essential if we are to maintain our top 6 position. (29/01/03)

Comeback Trail

Steve Watson hopes to get his season going with an appearance for the Reserves tomorrow night. He is desperate to get back into the first team.

He said:"I need to get as fit as I can be over the next few weeks and then force the gaffer to pick me. But what I don't want is for the team to do badly before I get selected, I want to be in a winning side and push for a place while the team's doing well. (13/10/02)

Hibbo's The Man

Steve Watson has admitted that he doesn't think that he has much chance of getting in at right back but there may be a place for him further forward.

"Hibbo's been outstanding. He's probably been in the top three most consistent players of the season so far, so it's going to be difficult for me to get my place back, but I wouldn't be surprised if I played the majority of my games this season further forward.

"I certainly think I can do a job in front of Hibbo, as a right midfielder and I scored four goals in six months at right back last season, so I think if I was given an extended run further forward, I could double that tally."(03/10/02)
