18. Wayne Rooney           Walks on Water                      What They Say About Our Wayne

Once a Blue always a Blue

Outside Chance

Wayne has an outside chance of making the Arsenal match. He will now start full training this week-end. It is a case of fingers crossed.

Mick Rathbone said:" Wayne’s been given the go ahead by the specialist to do some light jogging and he’s just run a couple of miles. He felt absolutely no reaction to his injury and if he continues to feel ok, we’ll step up the intensity of his training at the weekend. We’re all delighted with the progress Wayne has made and hopefully he’ll continue his recovery in a similar fashion." (07/08/03)

Road To Recovery

Knowing the boy like he does Moysey reckons Wayne could be back a bit sooner than first we thought and the break could do him some good.

Moysey said:"Hopefully the injury doesn't keep him out too much and I would say there's still an outside chance he could be available for the first game of the season. It's quite a bad twist he's got and we expect him to be out for four weeks, but knowing the boy there's a chance he could be back much sooner than that."

"He will do lots of cycling and swimming until he can bear weight on the ankle again. But he has done all the pre-season work. He's got that behind him and is already in good shape. I always felt he would take a little bit longer than the other lads because of his inexperience."(30/07/03)

The Duke to Miss The Start of The Season

The Duke will be out for a month with damaged ankle ligaments, missing the opener at Arsenal.

Physio, Basil Rathbone says: “Wayne had an X-Ray in Liverpoool on Saturday night and fortunately there was no obvious break. He has been for an MR scan this morning and visited a consultant who reviewed the information and confirmed the diagnosis as damaged ankle ligaments. He will return to see the specialist in 12 days time and we anticipate that he will be out for around four weeks." (26/07/03)

Same Again

David Moyes will not guarantee Wayne or anybody a starting place in his team. But he thinks he may start more games from the start this season.

Moysey said:"We need to make sure he's in the right condition physically and mentally and try, once again, not to put` too much expectation on him as we can. He's still only 17 and he has already improved. He had a great first season in the Premiership and hopefully there will be many more after this one. He played a massive part last year and he might start more games this season for us. But that comes down to a number of factors, such as players in form, players with confidence and which players need a break. There is no guarantee. If Wayne Rooney wants a guaranteed starting position it won't be at Everton."

"There are times when we would like to play Wayne and Tomasz Radzinski together because there were times last season when Kevin Campbell carried an awful lot of the workload. We will have a look at that pairing during pre-season, but the only time we have used the two together before was at Shrewsbury in the FA Cup and we know what happened then!."(16/07/03)

Don't Panic

Wayne has had to miss a days training with a minor injury, so don't panic.

Moysey said:"Wayne has a slight groin strain. We'll keep an eye on him for the next few days but it is not serious. He is doing a lot of cycling and other work at the moment and we'll just keep him out of the football work for a day or two." (15/07/03)

Horseplay!

Apparently, the Jockey Club have knocked back Wayne's attempts to register two horses, 'Norfolk Enchants & Hoof Hearted' nice one Wayne! The toffs at the club considered the names 'too naughty' yet they apporoved 'wearthefoxthat'??? (13/07/03)

Offical Statement

Everton have issued this statement:

"In the wake of weekend newspaper reports which appeared to suggest that one of our players, Wayne Rooney, had been threatened with physical violence and was, subsequently, at risk, Everton Football Club has this morning discussed the matter with both Merseyside Police and Cheshire Police.

"Neither force has received any form of complaint with regard to the allegations.

"The safety of this club's players, staff and supporters is of paramount importance and is an issue which will never be the subject of compromise. Everton Football Club is happy to reiterate that it does not believe Wayne Rooney - or, indeed, any of its players - to be at risk."(07/07/03)

Wayne's Saftey No 1 Aim

Ian Ross, head of corporate affairs and PR, has stressed that Wayne is not at any risk, but will be speaking to the Police soon regarding these bizarre threats.

He said: "Obviously the claims being made are of a very serious nature. "We shall be talking to Paul Stretford and Merseyside Police at the earliest opportunity. Wayne Rooney is due to report back to pre-season training later this week. We do not, however, believe him to be at risk. Our relationship with Paul has always been exemplary and we will be talking to him about any alleged problems he may be facing."

Moyesy threw some reality on the the situation.

Moyesy said: "Our job is to concentrate on football and that is what I will do.I will continue to guide Wayne in the best way I feel possible. This has nothing to do with Wayne at all. His job is to be a football player first and foremost and that it what I will help him to do."(07/07/03)

Threat to Murder!!!

The headlines in today's News of the Screws is a story of a threat to kill Wayne Rooney & his agent Paul Stretford! Apparently this is no idle threat, two gun gangs want to muscle in on Wayne's future earnings and gave Stretford a warning by firing 3 shots into his neighbours front door, there has even have been a threat to break Wayne's legs!!
The threat came before his last England game against Slovakia where he was substituted at early in the second half and was why he had such a poor game.
Stretford has now employed minders to be with Wayne around the clock and the matter has been referred to the Police. Now these guys must be hard because as we all know, you don't mess with Wayne's mum. (06/07/03)

Now The Rest of The World knows He's Human

Wayne was brought off after 58 minutes last night. He'd been tightly marked throughout the game, but still, he was bright, laid the ball off nicely a couple of times, got stuck in (ask the left back), but both he & the diver had little service from the rest of the team. The thing is now for him to go & have a few weeks rest, & come back 9th July, fresh, ready for the season to start. Not a bad 1st full season, 5 Englad caps & a wonderful season. Rest now little one! What the world said. (12/06/03)

5th Caps

The Duke looks set to win his 5th England cap tonight, as a 17 year old. Sit back & think of that! Amazing! He looks likely to play slightly behind the diver upfront. Good luck Wayne! There will be a minute by minute 'Rooney Watch' here on the Slovakia game. (11/06/03)

SKY One 10pm Wed 11th June

The Sky magazine is advertising a programme on SKY One at 9pm tonight called 'Wayne's World'. Described as ' a remarkable story. Don't miss the chance to peer inside the world of the boy wonder'.
However, having checked the planner IT'S WEDNESDAY at 10pm.Straight after the game. Set the video. (08/06/03)

Calm Down!

Sven must have too many redshite in his squad because he is starting to talk Scousology all of a sudden.
After Wayne had come on and livened up a totally drab friendly on Tuesday he felt he went just a bit too far. The snarling, the chewing and the two-footed scissor tackle did not go down too well with Sven who said 'maybe he has to look at his temprement' and he has had a word with young Wayne.
We put it down to Sven's mood, we were playing in England and we all know Sven prefers to play away from home! (05/06/2003)

4th Cap

Wearing the number 21 shirt, The Duke came on as a second substitute in this friendly against Serbia & Montenegro. He had poor service, but played a few good passes & had one shot on the turn, which the keeper saved. The Duke nearly became the youngest ever England scorer when he curved a last minute shot towards the top corner, but the keeper tipped over the bar. Oh well! You'll have to score next week. (04/06/03)

The Duke Plays

Sven says: "Rooney and Heskey will both play, although not necessarily at the same time and not necessarily for 90 minutes." Our guess is that The Duke will come on at half time. (03/06/03)

The Duke is Fit

The boy, who has had the world's press on his case all week, with photos of him around the pool, eating a large Chupa Chups Lolliop, & oh yes, kicking a ball, arrived back to Bellefield today, & was passed fit to join the England squad. Basil Rathbone says "We have checked Wayne out. He has trained in the past few days and reported no reaction so he will join up with the squad on Sunday." (30/05/03)

Star of The Show

The Duke has had the world's press following him, as he went for a round of golf with the rest of the squad. There is no truth in the rumour that he said "The last time I was on a golf course was when I got chased from 'Kirkby Muney' for robbing balls with me mates." (26/05/03)

Viva Espana!

Although not fully fit, The Duke has flown out to La Manga with the rest of the England squad for a short holiday. Be careful of that Sangria! (24/03/03)

Nike Boot Deal

Apparently, young Wayne is on the verge of signing an eight year, £2m boot deal with Nike. Not bad for the young'un who only wears a pair twice, so get rooting in those skips outside Bellefield & Goodison there could be a pair of The Duke's nearly new boots in there! (21/05/03)

He Could Miss The Next Two

Never mind South Africa he still may miss the next two. After traveling to London to see the Queen and her doctors Wayne may be still a few more weeks away from playing.

Mick Rathbone, our Physio said:"Normally these things take three weeks to heal,we're happy with his progress. He remains a doubt for the game with Serbia and Montenegro on the 3rd June, but has a better chance for the game on the 11th with Slovakia."(19/05/03)

Wayne Out of Africa

Sven, if David Moyes says Wayne isn't going to South Africa it means he is not going to South Africa.

Bobby FA Spokesman said:"Wayne Rooney has had to withdraw from England's squad for the game against South Africa."
(18/05/03)

Sven Puts His Foot Down

With the arguments flying around about Man Utd getting favourable treatment, because Nicky Butt, & Wes Brown are not in the squad. Fergie has claimed they are injured. Sven has throw the rule book at Everton.

Sven says: "The rules are that we are entitled to request a player to join up if we think there is a chance of him playing. It is quite different when you have a player who has played for 90 minutes and others who have been unable to finish their games because of their injuries.

I've no doubt Rooney has a problem. I don't know the details but the two doctors agreed the best solution is he comes on Sunday. From there we will make the decision what to do for the South African match and, hopefully, the other two games as well. We will have to wait and see whether he can be fit or not. I do not see this as a test or competition with Everton. It's about common sense and if the doctors decide on Sunday then that is it. If we do not like that there can be no discussions about what is right or wrong." (14/05/03)

The Duke is Included

Although Wayne was injured yesterday, he was included in the England squad to go to South Africa.
Sven says: "Our doctor is talking to the Everton doctor, but I hope he can travel. It will be very good for him. Every day he is with the other players he is brought into the family even more."
(12/05/03)

Out of Africa

Wayne has a medial knee ligament injury and has been pulled out of the England squad for the trip to South Africa, so you see Sven you need to learn - nobody messes with Moyesy! (11/05/03)

David and Sven To Disagree

David Moyes and other Premiership managers have been meeting with Sven to discuss the relationships with Clubs and the English team. But it looks as though David and Sven will not come to an agreement when it comes to the friendly international against South Africa later this month. David wants Wayne to have a long rest but early indications are that Eriksson wants our Wayne to travel.

Eriksson said: "Why should he not go to South Africa? I haven't picked the squad yet. It is too early. But if he is picked, he will play. Why not?"

Listen Sven have yer asked Wayne's Mum yet (01/05/03)
.

Just Wait 'til Next Year

Still purring after his goal against Villa, David Moyes reckons Wayne will be allot stronger after a good long rest in the summer and we can expect better things from him. Well I for one won't be able to cope.

Moyesy said:"In my limited experience as manager, I've noticed that when the youngsters come back after the summer in their first year they look more like men and more physically ready to perform."That's what I hope will happen with Wayne's development over the summer. I want Wayne to put his feet up more. He's had a long and hard season when a lot has happened for him and it will take its toll.

About his goal David said:"What a goal he scored. At the time, I thought it was from about eight or nine yards, but I saw it on the TV replay afterwards and realised it was a great goal."(28/04/03)

2nd Place

Wayne has come runner-up for the PFA Young Player of the Year. He was pipped to the post by Newcastle's Jermaine Jenas. (28/04/03)

No Charge

It was the only possible outcome. He hasn't been charged with anything but one of the coppers will give him a bit of talking to. I wonder if it's to advise him if he gets a bit more phlegm in his gob and tries harder his spit could go a lot further. I'm only joking.

PC plod said:“We have now had an opportunity to speak with supporters who complained to Merseyside Police over Wayne Rooney’s behaviour. We also have had the opportunity to view a video recording of the incident and as a result Mr Rooney will be seen by a senior officer at an early opportunity in the presence of the manager and will be given suitable advice. No further Police action is contemplated once this course of action has been followed.”

Ian Ross said: “The Club is happy that this matter has been dealt with so swiftly.”(22/04/03)

The Brazilian Panther

No it's not just an excuse to show the Brazilian bums again! Claudio Ranieri is the latest of Wayne's admirers describing him as a Brazilian panther! He said,'Rooney is unmarkable, he is fantastic. Whatever he wants to do, it is very difficult to stop him. I have a name for Rooney - he is a panther, a Brazilian panther. He is so powerful and you cannot compare him to any player. He is worth the admission price alone, very dangerous and very good!'
We'd drink to that Claudio or are you trying to fill the ground ahead of today's Pay per View game? (21/04/03)

Spittin' Mad

It's spittin', It's spittin'. The Police have been called in to investigate claims from redshite supporters that he spat towards their section on Saturday during the derby match. Everton have said they will wait to speak with the Police before commenting, the allegation is that he spat on the pitch! Unlike Handchoz who spat towards Neil Warnock & El-hadj the Hoof who spat into the Celtic crowd - the redshite fans certainly know about the art of spitting!! (21/04/03)

Short Listed

Our Wayne has been short listed for the PFA Young Player of the Year. Also on the list are Craig Bellamy, Jermain Defoe, Jermaine Jenas, John O'Shea and Scott Parker. The winner will be announced on April 27th. Bookies are not taking any bets on Wayne to win, but will take bets on who will come 2nd.(17/04/03)

Ronaldo Offers Advice To Roonaldo

Can't be bad when one of the best strikers in the world is offering you advice! But why?
Ronaldo has felt it timely to offer Wayne some pearls of wisdom 'From what I have seen this boy has a big future - but everyone around him must do their best to take good care of him when he is away from the pitch. I've been in Rooney's position so I would like to help him'.
It's as if the vultures are circling before Wayne's first season is over!
We would like to offer some advice to the Brazilian - sack your barber, lay off the chip butties and keep yer gob shut!! (16/04/2003)

He Belongs To Everton

The world has got an opinion on Wayne now that they have seen him. But I don't care what other managers, players, ex-players, journos and pundits think of him. The only people that I want to listen to is our manager, our players, his family, Toffeemen and Toffeewomen.

His Manager said: "We are all thrilled for him but I was not surprised, not one little bit. Nothing he did shocked me in any shape or form because he is a great talent, but we have to protect him from over-exposure."

"I would hope that England do not include him in any end of season trips. What's the point in us trying to look after him if he is travelling away all over the world? It's not so much the extra games which is the worry, but the length of time he is away.

"Sven has spoken to me a few times about him and I am sure he will understand the need to protect him as we have done."

Toffeeman Bill Kenwright said: "Wayne has something special that we have to cherish and look after, and that's what we have to do at Everton."

When asked about all the big clubs interest in Wayne. Bill said "Are you trying to tell me there's a bigger club than Everton? Do me a favour, he's going nowhere."

His Dad said:" We're so very very proud of him. Really pleased and delighted. We're really tired this morning after all the celebrating - but it's all worth it.He played a fantastic match last night. It was great to watch. The whole family went to see him and he has done us proud. We are starting to get used to it a bit now but it's still brilliant." (03/04/03)

Wayne Watch (No. 9)

1st Half - The Duke was a revelation tonight. Man of the match, best player..etc. These will be the headlines in the papers tomorrow. He didn't put a foot wrong. Three marvelous moments in the 1st half. 1). He controlled the ball & flicked it over the defenders head & kept the keepie ups going. 6 in all. 2). His cross field pass set up some red shite. 3). His back heel to slow coach Becks.

2nd Half - More of the same. Three moments to treasure 1). He wins a corner after a tussel with that horrible nark Bullent. Rooney doesn't break stride & shoulders him right in the chest. 2). The cushioned header at the far post, when England should have had a penalty. 3). Standing ovation when he came off. (02/04/03)

The Child Starts Against The Turks

After an amazing day at training when Rooney was on fire, Sven asked his backroom staff if The Duke should start instead of dopey emiley, the vote was 3-3. Sven then said 'I'm in charge. He's playing.(02/04/03)

On the Bench 'v' Turkey

Sven must be looking for the sack & we don't mean with Nancy or Ulrika!
In a 'must win' game he has said that The Duke will not start, even if the redshite donkey is not fit! He must be mad. He realises that it might be tough though and that his jewel in the crown could be his potential match winner.

Sven said, 'I think Wayne Rooney is ready but only part-time. I don't think we should expect him to come in and resolve a game against Turkey.
It could happen - who knows - if he comes on, as he's physically strong, good on the ball, quick and he scores goals. He might be good enough to start but we'll see. Let me think about it but maybe starting him isn't fair on him. Sometimes I'm accused for picking him in the squad and suddenly people want him to start. I don't know if I'm too cautious. He deserves to be in the squad and let's see what happens on Wednesday.'

Confused? Let's hope Wednesday is Wayne's big night. Come on Sven - you know it makes sense! (30/03/2003)

Wayne Watch (No.18)

Wayne somehow managed to wangle the No.18 shirt for England's away game against Liechtenstein having worn No.23 for his debut, maybe in just a few more games he'll be in the starting 11!
He got splinters until there was just 11 mins to go and England were 2-0 up, Sven had seen enough of the big redshite lummox falling all over the place and he got the curly finger and The Duke was on.
(80 mins) First touch was a slide to win the ball on the half way line.
(81 mins) Beats one player, passes to Murphy, get the return and his shot is blocked.
(83 mins) Loses out to two of theirs, wins ball back, sheilds it and is fouled from behind, free kick given
(85 mins) Dyer breaks down the left, gets to by-line and pulls ball back just behind Wayne - he gets his head to it but it goes wide! A better cross and he wudda scored.
(86 mins) Owen & Murphy put Wayne in with a move down the right, he beats a defender but drifts too wide and his shot goes wide.
(90 mins) Rooney is brilliant in building an attack from a Licky corner, balls headed clear and he holds it up, plays in Dyer, goes with the play, dummies Dyer's cross & Owen misses.
There was 3 mins injury time which was uneventful but in the short time that Wayne Rooney was on we could have scored 3 or 4 times and The Duke could have had two of those himself. Once again he did himself proud, well done Wayne, surely it will not be long before his full debut. (29/03/2003)

Oscar Nomination For Wayne "The Duke" Rooney

It just gets better and better for young Wayne. He has just been nominated for a Laureus which is the sports equivalent to an Oscar. He has been nominated as World Newcomer of the Year. He is joined by Dutch speedskater Jochem Uytdehaage, tennis players Daniela Hantuchova and David Nalbandian and Chinese basketball player Yao Ming. Nominations are made by 400 sports journalists throughout the world.

Wayne said:"I would like to thank all the journalists who put me forward as a nominee for this prestigious award. It is an honour to be mentioned alongside the other nominees who have already achieved so much in their chosen sports."
Moyesy said: “It is a measure of his progress that he has been shortlisted for this hugely prestigious title.” (26/03/03)

The Child in England Squad

Sven watched The Duke have an outstanding game & score at Highbury. Then hours later selected him & Wrighty for the two crucial Euro 2004 qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Turkey. Moyesy says: "I am delighted for both Richard and Wayne that they have both been given another opportunity to meet up with the England squad. It is good for them, it is good for the club and it is testimony to the way both players have been performing for Everton this season.” (23/03/03)

Unleash The Child

Pictured as a youth player (right) two years ago, the Duke looks like a child. The photos below show how much he has changed physically over those two years. Since his England debut over a month ago, Wayne has only played one full match for the reserves, a total of only 70minutes of 1st team football as a substitute in 3 games. England manager, Sven Goran Eriksson wants him to play more so he may be available for the England Euro 2004 qualifiers against Liechtenstein a week on Saturday and Turkey on 2nd April.

Sven says: "It's a pity for me he plays very little - but every time he comes on, he makes headlines. I'd like to see Rooney play more - but his manager is doing very well not letting him play. He's only 17 so maybe that's good."

The Duke could do what Alan Whittle did for us in the run-up in 1970. We just want him to play for Everton, as he's the best player. Super, The Rad, Bake, Chadders, & Dunc can all fight for the other place. Unleash the child.(18/03/03)

Chuffed

The youngest Player EVER to Play International Football for England is an Evertonian.
The Duke says:
“I was delighted that so many Everton fans had gone to the game, it gave me a real buzz when the England supporters were chanting my name. I’ve really enjoyed this week, the players and the staff made me feel really welcome and obviously on a personal note it was fantastic to come on and get my first full cap." (13/02/03)

Wayne Watch (No. 23)

As Wayne Rooney of EVERTON becomes the youngest player ever to play for England tonight we at Blue Kipper thought we would follow Wayne today and give live updates throughout the day & on his debut tonight, this is the story so far:

7.30am Knock on bedroom door, it's Beck's 'Time to get up son.'
8.30am Breakfast - full English, Owen has Ryvita.
10.30am Light training, twats a dozen past Wavy Davy.
12.30pm Lunch - Roast Beef Dinner, Owen has two Ryvita & Philly.
2.30pm Light training, twats another dozen past Robinson, Wright has a shut-out!

6pm Gets on coach to ground, plays Snap with Owen and wins every game. Owen reckons he only lost 50p!
8.15pm Late kick-off. Claimed usual spot on the bench, sat next to Jeffers awaiting more pearls of wisdom, missed the Aussies first goal - Dumbo's ears blocked the view.
8.45pm Trotted down the tunnel for a warm up, laughed at Owen missing another sitter on the way.
9.05pm England 0-2 down, Sven rants, Owen glum and The Duke awaits the nod.YESSSSSS!! He's on, just disappointed that Wrighty isn't.
9.20pm Jeffers tugs Rooney's ear on way out of tunnel! - cheeky bastard.
Game on. Aussies kick off
First touch is with his chest, as 1:2 with Jenas!!
Controls and plays a great cross to Vassel who misses,
Plays thru ball to Jeffers which is cut out,
Plays Jeffers in on a 1:2 and goalie saves,
A backheel to Jeffers!
Went past Moore and was fouled, free kick 25yds out.
Flicked a header to Jeffers but it's cut out
Plays 1:2 with Hargreaves but pass to Jeffers is again cut out
Jinks inside from the left, pulls the trigger - shot on target but blocked - Bastard!
Makes the first goal. Chests the ball downs, plays it wide, Jenas crosses & Jeffers scores 1-2.
The Aussies went on to score a third! The Duke played well along with Jenas & Jeffers, he can hold his head high and he WILL be back. This was a farce, two England teams in one match, Wayne was one of the few to come out with any credit. Well done Wayne we are proud of you and what you have already done for our club in a very short time.
Wayne Rooney creates history! Remember the name. (12/02/03).

THE DUKE DOES DOWN UNDER        Casting The Roons

Let Them All See Him

Everyone has had their say on Wayne as he prepares for the England game against the Aussies. If we printed all the quotes we would soon run out of space. What I am looking forward to is after they have all seen him and had their say it won't alter the fact that he is ours. An Evertonian. We will be watching him every week with his Everton shirt on. Once A Blue Always A Blue. Good Luck Wayne. (11/02/03)

Sven: "Rooney Will Play"

The Duke will re-write the record books again on Wednesday, when he wins his first full England cap in the friendly against Austrailia. Wayne will become England's youngest International player ever. It looks like he will come on in the second half to win the cap. "Once A Blue Always A Blue"

Sven says: “Rooney will play. It will be good for him and the public. I haven’t seen much of him but he has great quality. He makes things happen and physically he is very strong. I’ve discussed Rooney with Everton manager David Moyes and he is happy to go along with it. It will be one of the biggest things in his career. If I was him I would be delighted.” (09/02/03)

Sven Calls Up Wayne

England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has included Everton teenager Wayne Rooney in his squad for next week's friendly international against Australia.
Full Squad:
Robinson (Leeds), James (West Ham), Wright (Everton); Campbell (Arsenal), Cole (Arsenal), Konchesky (Charlton), Brown (Man Utd), G Neville (Man Utd), Ferdinand (Man Utd), King (Spurs), Mills (Leeds), Upson (Birmingham); Cole (West Ham), Dyer (Newcastle), Murphy (redshite), Lampard (Chelsea), Parker (Charlton), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Davis (Fulham), Beckham (Man Utd), Scholes (Man Utd), Jenas (Newcastle); Jeffers (Arsenal), Vassell (Aston Villa), Rooney (Everton), Owen (redshite), Beattie (Southampton).
If Wayne plays he will be the youngest player ever to play for England - goo on my son! (08/02/03)

Young Player of the Year - VOTE NOW!

Planet football are asking all supporters to vote on their choice of young player of the year. The Duke is back on Saturday at Charlton, give him your vote by logging onto www.planetfooball.com and voting NOW (05/02/03)

Reserves Called Off

Moyesy is not too worried about the game being called off.

He said:"There's a few of the lads who need a game, but it's not that big a problem if we can't play because we train them hard here - and if we need to give anyone a match we can always organise one behind closed doors," (04/02/03)

Back in the Reserves Tomorrow?

The Halton Stadium in Widnes could see a huge crowd on Tuesday night if, as expected, Moyesy gives Wayne Rooney a run out in the game against Sheff Wed Reserves.
We have not seen The Duke since the Shrewsbury debacle since which he has served a 4 match ban following his sending off at Birmingham by the Everton-loving David Ellaray, it will be great to see him again. Welcome back! (03/02/03)

Not An Automatic Choice

David Platt has hinted that Wayne may not become an automatic choice for the Under 21's. There is a wealth of young talent in this country but surely nobody like the Duke.

David Platt said: "The message to everyone is that this is a difficult squad to get into. Wayne Rooney has played very well for Everton but what people choose to forget is that he came off the bench to score the winner against Arsenal and Leeds. It was two cameo appearances and then all of a sudden it's 'he should be in the full England squad'." (21/01/03)

Wayne Signs

Everton have finally signed Wayne Rooney on a long term contract. He is on course to become the richest teenager in world football. His wages go up from £90 to £13,000. He will sign a new contract when he is 18. This with bonus payments, England appearances, & a shed full of cash from an image rights agreement should make The Duke a cool £10m over 5 years.

The Duke says: "This is a dream come true for me. I never wanted to go to another club and playing for Everton means a lot to me. Its difficult tp put into words, but running out to 'Z-Cars' is simply the best feeling in my life.
I was nine when I first came to the club - and there’s been a lot of people who’ve helped me along the way, especially Colin Harvey who has been brilliant for me.
The fans have also been great ever since I started playing. It’s gone better than I thought it would have. It’s been brilliant.”

Brings tears to your eyes. Doesn't it? (17/01/03)

Moyesy Says 'No' To FA

Everton today confirmed that Wayne Rooney would not be called up for the U20 tournament in UAE which starts in March. Ian Ross said “Les Reed has been in contact with our manager David Moyes to inform him that he has no intention of calling up Wayne Rooney for the tournament in March”. This has been brilliant PR by Everton, Moyesy a step ahead, press go bonkers and the club nip it in the bud, how times are changing - well done Everton!!
Wayne is certainly hot stuff even when he's not playing, the main thing is we keep him in our quest for Europe. (14/01/03)

Moyesy has been in touch with FA Technical Director Les Reed, he wants to resist any attempt by the FA in trying to secure the services of Wayne Rooney for the World U20 Youth Championships in March. The competition is being held in United Arab Emirates and would mean losing The Duke for the whole month and into April, hence the boss has said, 'On yer bike!' we need our prize asset as we push to edge the redshite out of that fourth European Championship place! (13/01/03)

Oi! Mischief Makers - NO!

The Duke hasn't scored for a week or so. No news on Wayne. What does the media do. 'Lets invent a story.'
Paul Stretford of Proactive Sports management says: "There is no doubt in my mind that Wayne Rooney will sign for Everton Football Club. We are in discussions to negotiate a contract with the football club for Wayne. That's what Wayne wants, what we want and what Everton Football Club wants and that's what will happen." (07/01/03)

Madrid, My Arse!

Everton have come out & Boo Hooed the stories about The Duke joining Real Madrid.
Ian Ross says: "Stories which surfaced over the weekend suggesting that the Everton board of directors had entered into negotiations with Real Madrid about a future deal involving Wayne Rooney are inaccurate and spurious. There has been no contact whatsoever between the two clubs about Wayne Rooney or, indeed, any other footballer. At present the club's board, along with manager David Moyes, are concentrating their efforts on assembling a senior squad, which will, hopefully, ultimately fill the ambitions of every Everton supporter. Like any self-respecting football club one of our primary objectives is to ensure that our better players stay put so that they might contribute to the building of a successful future." Nice one Rossy. We think it's a bit of a cheek to say "Wayne Rooney or, indeed, any other footballer." As Real would no doubt, have never heard of any of our 'other footballers.' (06/01/03)

It's Now 4 Games!

As a result of The Duke's booking he picked up yesterday for his rash challenge on Foe his suspension of 3 games foe his sending off at Birmingham is now increased to 4 games as this was his 5th booking of the season. Once again he was unlucky to be booked, it is however becoming a part of his game he will need to watch - the officials are out to make a name for themselves as we saw once again with Elleray. Wayne can play in the FA Cup on Saturday at Shrewsbury but will then miss the games against Spurs (a), Sunderland (h), FA Cup 4 & Bolton (a) assuming we beat Shrewsbury first time that is. He WILL be missed!

Another Star Man Performance

He did everything but score in a Blue Kipper Star Man performance. I know we keep saying it but Wayne his awesome. The talk is he may go into the next England squad, I hope he doesn't yet. I just want him to play for the Toffeemen at the moment. Moyesy has done well in keeping Wayne's feet on the ground by saying he should have scored.

Moyesy said: “It was a top quality performance but he needed to score at the end of it – he had enough opportunities, but to be fair, he created them all for himself. Wayne was always in my mind to start the game. He hasn’t been bothered by all the publicity. He just gets on with it and takes it all in his stride.”(29/12/02)

Short Cut To Ribbons

I knew Craig was thick. He has admitted he was pleased to see Wayne on the team sheet, because The Rad had always caused them problems.

Shorty said:"When I first saw Rooney's name on the team-sheet I was relieved, because Radzinski had caused us so many problems at our place.I thought: 'he can't be as quick as him,' but he has other qualities too. He is agile, strong, quick and very, very confident. He just seemed to be totally at home out there and you didn't want to be one against one with him because he has so much skill." (16/12/02)

Teenage Rampage

After another master class from the Duke, Moyesy is spending alot of time protecting our genius.

Moyesy said: "Between 17 and 20 is an age when you don't want to be in the spotlight. It is a period where we want to try to take his adolescence away from him. To deny him the opportunity to do the sort of things everyone else has done at that age.

"I don't think he's got a big ego. He's very down to earth and just wants to be left alone and we have to be careful how we continue to watch his development. He's more mature as a footballer than as a person. At the end of the day we want to do what is best for him. We have to be careful with him. He's played a good game but if at the end of the season he's played 20-25 games then it might be right for him to get a chance to be involved with England at that stage, not now.(16/12/02)

Proactive Talks

Contract talks between Everton & Wayne's new agent Paul Stretford’s Proactive Sports agency will take place on Friday, when his old contract runs out. Of course NO talks have taken place before this date!
“Talks will take place before Christmas regarding Wayne Rooney’s first professional contract,” a club spokesman confirmed. (What's your name?). (12/12/02)

So Proud

I don't care if he suck lollipops never mind chew a bit of Wrigley's Extra. By the sounds of it either does his Dad.

Wayne Senior said: “This award is a massive achievement for my son and shows just how far he has come in such a short time. It’s what he does on the pitch that matters. We are really proud and happy for him.” (10/12/02)

BBC Sports Young Personality of the Year.

Wayne picked up his second award of the week, when England manager presented him with BBC Sports Young Personality of the Year Award. Wayne was accompanied by Moysey & were seated on the front row at the big bash. (08/12/02)

Learning Curve

The Duke missed a penalty last night against Chelsea to top an indifferent performance. They are a top side, & Wayne is 17 & starting only his 5th Match for Everton.
Moyesy says:
"It was a tough night for Wayne. But he will get better for it, and I hope people will see that we are using him in the right way.
"I think he will cope fine with missing the penalty; I don't foresee any problems with that at all." (05/12/02)

Another Award

No wonder Wayne's moving, he needs the space for yet another trophy. At the BBC Sports Awards (North West) he beat of all comers to win the Radio Merseyside Newcomer of the Year - well he is only just 17 isn't he?! (03/12/02)

We All Agree

Our old magicman Duncan McKenzie has told Wayne to carry on being a showman.

Duncan said: "I burst out laughing when I saw Wayne stand on the ball. If I was the kid, I'd just say 'ok kick me up the backside and you'll give away free-kicks and penalties and get into more trouble than I will.' "

"Wayne's really trying to say ' I'm only 17 but I'm better than you lot put together.' That's great."(01/12/02)

Three Minutes

Darren Moore (the funny fella in the pic) has warned Wayne not to show-boat and to be careful in future. Don't worry Darren you may only see him one 'moore' time.

He was only on 3 minutes and we still couldn't stop talking about him. He went down the left wing, stopped the ball and then decided to put his hands on his hips. So Wayne, I blamed you when I was trying to explain to my missus why it takes nearly 11 hours to watch an Everton match. Keep it up Duke.(25/11/02)

Young Personality

Wayne is one of 10 candidates shortlisted for the BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year Award. He should win hands down. He is the only footie player, the others being 7 athletes and 1 table tennis player. (20/11/02)

England U 21's

Just try keeping this kid out of the headlines! Wayne Rooney's call up to the England U21 squad today overshadowed the doom & gloom mercharts who were harping on about his 4th yellow card he picked up on Saturday, Moyesy will sort that out. The boss had a word with David Platt and it was agreed that the sensible progression for now was via this route rather than the full England squad but one things for sure, it won't be long before he does make the big time. Wayne is joined by Peter Clarke & Tony Hibbert, well done lads. (11/11/02)

Goal of The Month

The Dook has won the Premiership’s October goal of the month for his beautie against the Gooners. Set the video for half past ten on ITV1, as if we win against Charlton you'll be on another bender. (09/11/02).

More Praise for The Duke

The Duke show is just getting bigger and better. Another brilliant performance by Wayne. He set up the second for Wato and slotted a pen amid a chorus of boos. No problem. Afterwards it was Bobby Robson and Alan Irvine who gave Wayne more accolades

Alan said:"Wayne was fabulous tonight. He has fantastic ability and on top of that he's got incredible mental strength. He has no fear and was absolutely awesome. He missed two penalties in training this morning and yet walked up in front of all those Newcastle fans and all that noise and simply rolled it in. I was also amazed by his stamina. Wayne has been kept back in terms of reserve games so I am amazed he lasted so long, let alone perform at the level he did."

Sir Bobby said:"He's awesome. He's a terrific player. At 17, he's as good a player as I've seen. He's got everything - he's got strength, he's got pace, he can turn on the ball. He was composed for the second goal.

"A lot of players wouldn't have given the ball he gave. He kept calm on the byline and pulled his pass back, and Watson did the rest.He played like a 27-year-old rather than a 17-year-old. He was immense and gave a great performance. They have in him a fantastic talent - England have."(07/11/02)

Jewel In The Crown

The plaudits are now flying in for The Duke, even the redshite are at it, the latest comes from non other than Sir Bobby Robson. The knight described Roonaldo as 'the jewel in the crown..' and he should know having managed both Gazza & Ronaldo. He said ' I think David Moyes is handling things well, there is already so much talk about a lad who is only 17. He's scored two marvellous goals against Leeds and Arsenal, special goals, goals that only special players score, so obviously his potential is enormous. I think he's the jewel in the crown and David Moyes will want to simmer it down and keep his feet on the ground'. Let's hope you are as complimentary after tonight's game Sir Bobby!! (06/11/02)

Fast Track England

There were a few reports that Wayne will be fast-tracked into the England squad. But before anyone wants to do that they had better ask the boss.

David Moyes said:"No-one has spoken to me about that, there has been no contact from anybody at the FA." (05/11/02)

Does Anything He Does Surprise You? - No

That was a question given to David Moyes after the Leeds game and there is his answer. He is trying to make his comments on Wayne short and sweet but it is going to be difficult after another stunning goal.

Moyesy said:"Yes, I do want to keep him out of the spotlight, but no, he isn't making my job harder. He is making it a lot easier. I can keep him out of the spotlight, no problem. He does what is natural to him and I will try and do what's best for him."

About the goal he said:"He still had a lot of work to do to score, but he took the ball down and got at the defender. It was a different type of centre forward's goal, but any forward will tell you any goal is a good goal. It's more the type of goal I would like to see him score, getting in the box and committing defenders.(04/11/02)

£100 Reward - The Lobster, Oyster, Sefton, Western, & Dog & Gun Boys on Standby

Moyesy may offer £100 reward for any fan, who spots The Duke on the streets doing wheelies on his bike, when he should be at home. All the boys in Crocky will have their eyes peeled for their chance of a lottery win.
Moyesy says: “We’ve got to look after him, and that includes every Evertonian. If you see him out on the street then send him home. I remember Sir Alex Ferguson used to offer £100 to anyone who’d tell him where his young stars were and I’m thinking of doing the same.”

The Boss also thought he wouldn't go the way of Dumbo.
Moyesy says: “I’ve got no reason to suspect that will happen. He is very young and very much a part of our plans." (01/11/02)

Wayne released by England

The Dook was allowed to stay at Everton rather than take part in a mini tournament with England U19's against Macedonia, Moldova and Romania. He would have missed the Leeds game on Sunday and next week’s Worthington Cup clash with Newcastle.

Dunford says: “The Football Association have listened to our case sympathetically and we are pleased that common sense has prevailed." (30/10/02)

Don't Panic

There will be alot of rumours about Wayne now that he has hit his first Premiership goal. Milan are sniffing around him. He is not signing blah blah blah.

The message is don't panic. He will now sign his contract in December when he changes agencies.

Blue Bill said:"He becomes 17 on Thursday and, as you know, that is when you are able to sign a contract. There's nothing mischievous in this but Wayne has just changed agents and his new agency agreement doesn’t go through for another few months. I don’t think he will be actually signing until December, but the contract has been agreed – it was agreed several months ago".

"I can assure every Evertonian that Wayne Rooney will sign his full, professional contract and will be staying at Goodison Park. Just like me, he is Everton through and through. He wants to stay and Everton and play for us - and he will be staying at Everton to play for us.

Moyesy said:"I don't know anything about any Milan interest in Wayne. But he has been an Everton supporter all his life. He was brought up here and this is where he is staying."(21/10/02)

Wayne Signs for Proactive

Once Wayne signs his professional contract at Goodison on October 24, he will then sign up with the famous Proactive Sports Management agency. He cuts his ties with Merseyside agents Dave Lockwood and Peter Macintosh in December then joins Paul Stretford's organization. It is believed to be the biggest football contract for a 17 year old.(14/10/02)

England Calls

Wayne started the game for England U19's against Yugoslavia. The lad is only 16, & he's representing his country 2 age groups higher. He had an eventful half, & then was brought off at half - time. He had a couple of half chances, & a header which just went over the bar. The game finished 2-2 All the goals coming in the second half. (11/10/02)

Will He or Won't He

A couple of days after his two goals against Wrexham the question everybody is asking is will he play against Mancs? It is a difficult one. On one hand you've got if "he's good enough he's old enough". And on the other hand you've got "lets take our time with him". I don't think he will play from the start but I hope he will come on to put the willys up them. You never know he may score the winner with a few minutes to go.(03/10/02)

Free Role

The Duke is starting to find his feet. He has now played some part in every game this season. He has also got more bookings than anyone this season. He had is best game against Villa when he was given the free role behind The Rad and Super and no I don't know why he was subbed for Alexandersson. He is pleasing his boss as well.

David Moyes said:"I thought Wayne played well. He linked us up from that position, he is a good player for a 16-year-old but we can't be expecting Wayne Rooney to be the catalyst of everything we do. He will be someday, but I thought he played well today and he did a lot of good things."

"Wayne's football is exceptional. Where he is at the moment he is way ahead of anybody I have ever seen and we have just got to try and bring him along correctly. He is a shy lad, great to work with, looks as if he wants to learn and gets better and it is in our interests to make sure we look after him." (24/09/02)

The Vultures are after The Duke already!

Wayne Rooney has yet to play a full 90 minutes yet the agents are already scrapping over him! He was with Liverpool based Peter McIntosh but it now seems that he is heading for the clutches of Pro Active Sports Management headed by Paul Stretford. As a result the new 3 year contract will remain UNSIGNED until the agent who is to counter-sign it is clarified! Let's just hope that Wayne is not in the Ball or Jeffers league and sticks to his word and puts pen to paper for the Blues. 'Once a Blue, always a Blue' (27/08/02)

The Duke To Sign 3 Year Contract

League rules state that players cannot sign a contract until he's 17. So Everton have set up a deal were Wayne Rooney will sign the new contractin October when he turns 17. Billy spokesman said: “Wayne is a very much player for the future and we are delighted he has agreed to sign a new deal at Everton.” (27/07/02)
