After
an up and down season for the Everton defence and particularly
Tony Hibbert the last two games have produced clean sheets. Tony
is confident that the remainder of the season will go much better.
Hibbo
says: "It has been a big relief to get two clean
sheets back to back. You know that if you keep a clean sheet you
are going to at least get a point. That helps breed confidence.
From my point of view, I have not really had a good season. I
know I have got a lot more to offer the team. I felt comfortable
with my performances last season and I have been doing okay but
I know I can do a lot better. That is what I try to do in every
match. If I play well, that is great but if not I want to put
things right. I still have a lot of work to do and a lot more
to give."
"We have
had two big games in the last couple of weeks and we needed the
points. The league is so tight that back to back wins can quickly
put you in a nice position. If we can keep that run going this
weekend we could even be looking at getting into the top 10 because
the table is so close."(17/03/04)
Kick
Up The Arse
After
a rocky start to the season, The Hibbert is playing out of his
skin. He was outstanding against Leeds. Getting stuck in like
we know he can & now demanding his team mates give him the
ball, as he joins in the attack. He delivered the cross from which
Big Dunc scored his header. Tony seems to compliment Stevie Watson
down the right hand side. But it needed a kick up the arse from
Moyesy to spark him into action.
Moyesy
says: “He started slowly. He had a hernia operation and
he needed a kick up the backside really to get going. He is a
wholehearted player who is very committed, and I just thought
he had started to think that he was maybe something different
than that. But he is certainly back on track and I thought he
was excellent against Leeds. Six months ago, people were talking
about him being a possible England player. If he continues to
improve that is a realistic target for him when you consider his
age. People have begun to look at him differently now. He is not
a young player anymore. He is a first-team player and you do not
get any special treatment for that. You have to stand up on your
own two feet and he is capable of doing that.” (06/10/03)
Splinters
Tony
sat on his arse for the entire 1-1 draw against Macedonia tonight.
The right back spot went to Johnson of Chelski. (05/09/03)
Call
Up
Tony
is in the England U21's to face Macedonia on Friday and Portugal
on Tuesday. Lets hope he gets a game to impress & get back
in the 1st team. (01/09/03)
Full
90
Tony
got a full 90 in for the Reserves last night, it should put him
in with a chance of a start against Fulham on Saturday.
Moysey
said: " We are pleased that Wayne and Tony got the
full game. They both definately need match practice and the game
will have done them good.
Call
Up
After
being left out of the Everton squad for the opening game against
Arsenal, Tony has been given a late call up for the England Under
21's to play in the friendly against Croatia on Tuesday. He joins
Peter Clarke, who was picked in the original squad. (18/08/03)
