18. Wayne Rooney           Walks on Water                      What They Say About Our Wayne

Once a Blue always a Blue

Waynes Going Nowhere, Says Gazza

Ex Everton star Paul Gascoigne, gave every Evertonian out there a glimmer of hope in our battle to fight of the overtures of Chelsea, Man Ure and alike, in keeping our wonderkid Wayne Rooney.Gazza who has struck up a friendship with The Duke, recalls a conversation he had with Wayne only a few months ago. He said the eighteen year old has happy playing for club he loves, and his life could not be better after buying himself and girlfriend Colleen a new house in Formby. Money he believes is not at the fore front of Rooney's mind, so if that is the case, lets hope Moyesy starts playing him in his favoured position of striker, instead of constantly shifting him all over the pitch to accommodate others.

Ex England and Everton Star Gazza says: "I sat down with Wayne and had a chat about things and he said he loves Everton, loves his family and loves being on Merseyside. He also has a steady girlfriend and they have a magnificent house in Formby which they've not long moved into. I really don't think he's got an idea in his head about moving. And I think he'd be right to stay and learn his trade a little bit more. There's no need for him to leave Everton. He's still young and these other clubs that have been mentioned are always going to be available to him in the future. I think he should go by his instincts and I think his instincts are to stay." (25/06/04)

The Lad's Still a Blue

According to Everton boss Davey Moyes, Wayne Rooney will be starting the new season, as an Everton player. With the world going Rooney crazy, Moyesy is adamant, that The Duke is integral to his rebuilding plan's for The Blues. Let's hope so Davey.

Moyesy says: "I can categorically state we are not interested in selling Wayne Rooney. I don't know how many times I have to say it. We have had no contact from any other club about him. I am building a team and Wayne Rooney is part of it. That hasn't changed during Euro 2004. For the Evertonians out there, you can read all the things you like but as far as I am concerned I will do everything in my power to keep Wayne Rooney at Everton. He will be at Everton on the opening day of the season unless someone tells me differently." (24/06/04)

Only One

David Moyes believes there is only one club that could afford Wayne and they have no chance of getting him, whether he has a good Euro 2004 or not.

Moyesy says: "If he does well, the surrounding hype will be inevitable. It's my belief only one club in the world can afford Rooney. That does not mean we want to sell him to that club. We have no intention of selling him.

"I'm concerned people will ask too much of him and expect him to be the one who can change things when he is the baby of the squad. I can see he is excited by the tournament. He will look forward to it because he is the kind of boy who continually needs to be pushed." (07/06/04)

Laughable

Blue Bill has come out publicly this morning to describe as laughable a Sunday tabloid report insisting that a £40m transfer offer for The Duke from Man Ure has been accepted. Blue Bill, along with Moyesy have issued a statement denying any deal with United, or any other side for that matter has been accepted. As for as the two of them are concerned, Rooney will be starting the new season in an Everton shirt. Lets hope so, or I feel there will be trouble at mill.

Blue Bill says: “It is always difficult to respond to rubbish. David Moyes and myself have discussed a combined response and it is The article is laughable. No deal has ever been discussed, set up or agreed with Manchester United or, indeed, any other football club on the planet." (23/05/04)

Duke Raring To Go

The Duke is raring to go on the England front, as he prepares for his first big International Tournament. Rooney is one of Sven's big hopes for the Championships, which start for England three weeks on Sunday against France. Can't wait, another excuse to go on the piss this Summer. Does anyone know any good marriage counsellors, as I may be needing one in the near future.

The Duke says: "I'm very excited and can't wait. Obviously it's a big tournament for everyone involved with England, but I'm still a young lad so I'm particularly looking forward to it. I remember watching past tournaments at home and thinking how big the games were and how nervous you'd feel going out to play in them. I never imagined that I'd be going out there playing in a tournament like that myself.
I definitely didn't think I'd be playing for England at such an early stage in my career. It's all happened so quickly, but I'm just glad to be involved. In some ways I have been surprised by my progress with England. I was surprised when I was named in the squad for the first time, but since then I've been there I've done well for England and stayed in there on merit." (18/05/04)

Duke In Squad

The Duke as expected was named today in Sven's Euro 2004 Squad. England are pinning their hopes on our Everton wonderboy, and at least it will give us all something to cheer this Summer. Everton goal scoring legend, Graeme Sharp has thrown in his three penneth, over should we sell him or should we keep him debate. Sharpy who is the Clubs leading post war goal scorer is adamant that the Blues would be committing hari kari, if we let the lad go. Well in Sharpy.

Sharpy says: "I wouldn't touch any deal for him. He is an outstanding talent, just 18 years of age, and there is no guarantee that if you get money in for him it will go towards team-building. A lot will depend on how Wayne does at Euro 2004. If he has a good tournament the speculation about United, Chelsea and Arsenal will probably start again. I may be looking at this from a one-sided viewpoint but I would like to see him stay here. Wayne is a young lad who is still learning and you can look at Francis Jeffers and Michael Ball, who left Everton too early in my opinion, for whatever reasons and it hasn't worked out. I just wouldn't contemplate selling him. Wayne is a different character to those two but looking at Wayne's performances he has not been as consistent as in his first season. He has still got a lot to learn and hopefully he will continue to do that at Everton Football Club." (17/05/04)

A Great Chance

Wayne thinks England have a great chance in Euro 2004 and he hopes to play a major part.

The Duke says: "I honestly think we've got the quality in our squad to win the European Championship.
"I thInk my game has progressed this year. I have made more starts and the more you play, the more you learn. I've also gained experience from playing in loads of positions. My favourite is up front but I don't mind where I play for Everton or England as long as I get a game."

Gathering Storm

David Moyes believes that The Duke is about to take the Euro Championships by storm. The Duke who is still in ongoing negotiations surrounding a revamped five year deal, is one of England's big hopes this Summer, as our National side go after their first trophy in nearly forty years.

Moyesy says : "I have no doubts in that when Euro 2004 starts, he won't look out of place. Wayne has matured and I am sure that in the big games he will be able to handle himself well. He is learning all the time and wants to keep learning, which is the most important thing. I am desperate for him to have a great Euro 2004 because he will bring that experience back to this club and continue to work here, but there is nobody who will take him from us." (01/05/04)

New Deal

Great news to be waking up to this morning for us Blues. It seems that The Duke is set to put pen to paper on a new five year deal. Rooney a boyhood Blue, has no desire it seems to leave his boyhood hero's, which will come as a blow to Alex Ferguson, Roman Abromavich, and alike. The new deal will include a clause that the boy wonder can have as many toilet seats (see below), as he desire's, with Rapid Discount insisting on it.

Moyesy says: "The indications are he'll sign in the summer and I'm happy. We are building for the future here and we want to build a side around Wayne - we don't want to develop him for another club." (30/04/04)

Bum Deal

It seems that nothing in life is sacred, as workmen have noticed an unusual object had been stolen whilst doing up The Dukes former home in Croxteth. Some souvenir hunter has pinched Wayne's old bog seat. This really is the shitty end of the stick, that some thief could stoop so low. Wayne when told was alleged to say that it was a bum deal, as he had some fantastic movements whilst sat on his beloved crapper.

A Contract Spokesman says : "This toilet seat could be valuable, if there is proof it is genuine." (28/04/04)

For Us

Moyesy timing is spot on in telling everyone that Wayne is not going anywhere. Just as we are heading to play Chelski he had this to say.

"We are not grooming him for them or anyone else.He is going nowhere.Sometimes you need to be given good advice about the way ahead, especially when you are just starting out on a career.I was not here when Franny [Jeffers] left for Arsenal and, to be fair, Everton received a terrific offer. But maybe, in hindsight, you are better off staying where you are at the age and learning the ropes a bit longer. When you look at David Beckham, he had well and truly served his apprenticeship with Manchester United before thinking of moving on and joining Real Madrid. That is how it should be. The point about Wayne is that his development has only just started. He will become a much better player in time, and he will do it here.We have been able to spot mistakes in his game and correct them by working with him on a daily basis. That is how he will gain experience and continue improving. The aim is not only to build a team around Wayne, but by the virtue of his presence, attract more players of similar stature to the club. It is up to us to bring in more top-quality players so we can create a situation where Wayne can achieve his objectives with Everton."(17/04/04)

PFA Young Player of the Year Nomination

The Duke has been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the year 2004 along with not-so-young John Terry, Glen Johnson, Scott Parker, Kolo Toure and Shaun Wright-Phillips, the winner will be announced at the PFA Annual Dinner on April 25th. Not being biased but surely the can only be one winner, who else has delivered consistently all season for both club and country? (15/04/04)

OPTA Winner

Wayne Rooney has won Everton's OPTA Player of the Month for March. With the Blues remaining unbeaten in the month, and the Duke popping up with some vital goals, against Pompey, and Leicester, the statistics spoke for themselves. The Duke pipped Alan Stubbs and Nigel Martyn to the monthly award. Rooney now has the difficult task of taking as his prize £500 worth of vouchers for DIY Giant B+Q, or if he passes on that, he can be entered into the the end of season draw. That involves all the monthly winners going in the hat, for the chance to win to win a five minute trolley dash around PC World. Think about it, there is some pricey stuff in there. Right I'm off for my medication.(09/04/04)

Fit For England

The Duke trained with England today and looks set to play on Wednesday in Sweden. He looked fit as a fiddle with no apparent problem with his ankle.
Moyesy says:
“Wayne’s a tough boy as you well know and wouldn’t normally come off for treatment. But it probably suits me if he did play for England because that way he gets a game while he’s suspended for us.” (29/03/04)

Touch and Go

We have to wait for a few days to see if Wayne will play against Sweeden on Wednesday. After picking up a couple of injuries at the Boro game yesterday it could be touch and go.

Bazza says: "Wayne got a kick on the ankle and a knee in the back which is causing him some discomfort but he will meet up with the England squad. We have taken another look at him at Bellefield this morning and he is still feeling a bit tender, but hopefully it will settle down in the next few days.”(28/03/04)

No Charge

Wayne will not be charged over the alleged spitting incident in a Manchester nightclub.

A Crown Prosecution spokesperson says "After careful consideration, prosecutors decided there was insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction."(25/03/04)

Blob On

Wayne Rooney's Everton team mate, Gary Naysmith, believes that the wonder kid, is back to his dynamic best. With a recent return of four goals, in the last four matches, no one can disagree with him.

Nace says: "Wayne has hit a patch of form where he can be out of the game for so long but when he gets a chance you know he is going to score it. Long may that continue. Everybody has got to remember he is only an 18-year-old lad and he is going to have ups and downs. And when he has his quiet games there is no need to say anything to him because you know he will explode and do something special in the next match." (24/03/04)

Just Gets Better

The Duke has once again got a pat on the back from boss Davey Moyes. The Duke who has now netted in his last four games, had to watch the last few minutes from the bench, after being substituted as Leicester grabbed a last gasp equaliser.

Moyesy says: "It was a good goal. We worked away and Wayne took it well. There were a lot of similarities to the one the previous week. He is in a rich vein of scoring form and long may that continue. His confidence is rising. We ask an awful lot of a player so young to be so influential in our side." (22/03/04)

Well In My Son

The Duke who is scoring for fun lately, is pleasing his manager no end. With a return of three goals in the last three matches, Moyesy believes that like a good cheddar, that Wayne is maturing well. Dave Watson upon hearing the word cheddar said that he was monitoring the situation closely, and he may ask Wayne to open his new Cheese Emporium.

Moyesy says: "I think Wayne has handled himself pretty well this season, his form has improved of late and he has started scoring goals. He has certainly come alive of late and has shown considerably maturity on and off the field for a boy of his age. This has been a transition season for him after the way he started his career and it has also been that for the team, which has made things difficult for everyone. But what do you expect from an 18-year-old, do you expect him to be excellent all the time? That is just not possible for someone so young, there will always be dips and highs." (20/03/04)

Magic

David Moyes wasn't upset with Wayne's celebrations after his goal against Portsmouth because he was too busy jigging around himself after Wayne's bit of magic.

Moyesy says:"The quality came at the end from Wayne. He had been finding things a bit tough out there until that moment. He had found it hard to make an impact, but that is what good players do. They produce a little bit of magic when it is needed. And I forgive him for that celebration when he was in front of the Portsmouth fans. He's a young lad, a centre-forward and he is excitable. He just wanted to celebrate, I certainly was on the bench!"(15/03/04)

Best Yet

Wayne Rooney seems to have found his form again, if last weeks performance against Southampton was to go by. He linked up brilliantly with the Big Man, and hopefully that partnership will continue today, against Aston Villa. Rooney's coach Alan Irvine believes if the pair of them continue as they have been, we shall soon be moving clear of you know where.

Alan Irvine says: "Wayne is looking back to his best. He was top drawer, terrific at Southampton. He was a constant threat, very lively. That was great, as it was to see him scoring a couple. He was very good and maybe answered a few of the criticisms. Ferguson and Rooney did very well last week. It is a dangerous partnership, they were a real threat throughout the game and obviously it was nice to see them getting on the scoresheet because as everyone has been aware, our strikers haven’t scored with maybe as many chances as they should have done at times this season. If they score three goals between them in every game between now and the end of the season then we should be okay! The pair were a constant threat, and if they continue in that vein, we will soon be away from the bottom. They were lethal. They are a perfect British combination of a big lad and a little 'un, with different strengths that compliment each other."(28/02/04)

Only Two Could Afford Him

With the constant speculation surrounding Wayne Rooney's future, Moyesy has come out and said that only two clubs in the world could afford the transfer fee, to buy the Everton star. Rouble rich Chelsea, and Real Madrid were the two clubs in question, as Moyesy believes no one else could stump up the estimated £30 million plus fee. Not that the Duke is for sale we hasten to add, and hopefully we get many more years out of our precocious young talent.

Moyesy says: "There are only two clubs in the world who could ever buy Wayne Rooney. One is Chelsea and the other is Real Madrid. I don't think any other clubs would come close."(23/02/04)

Rooney Watch v Portugal

The Duke had another quiet evening in England's 1-1 draw in Faro against this years Host Nation Portugal. Rooney who was substituted in the 71st minute, along with fifty six other players only briefly showed his attacking abilities in a very lack lustre match, not helped by Sexy Sven's constant chopping and changing. Rooney's work rate was spot on again, as on more than one occasion he was back helping out his defensive team mates. His only chance was a long range effort, that narrowly went over the bar, and a shot that hit the side netting after he was narrowly ruled off side.(19/02/04)

NO!

You could tell by the tone of Moyesy's voice that he was pissed off being asked the same question over and over again. He gave the same answer. No! Let's hope the board didn't listen to the Shareholder's Forum speaker the other night.

Moyesy says: “He’s a good player and people are entitled to say things about him and I suppose reporters have to write things and fill their pages with something. However, I have always stated that he’s not for sale. And unless the Board are saying something that I don’t know, they are in total agreement with that as well.” (17/02/04)

On Yer Bike !

Everton have rubbished weekend rumours that Moan United have tabled a £25m bid for The Duke a spokesman says: "We have not had any contact from any club with regard to Wayne Rooney and nor would we welcome any." Which we interpreted as 'Bollocks and if anyone does come calling for our Wayne they'll be told to fuck off', good on yer Mr Spokesman. (16/02/04)

Another Storm in a Tea Cup

After the Duncan Ferguson going's on, Wayne Rooney now finds himself at the centre of a storm, as some bird from Skem has alleged the Duke spat in her face at Super's Birthday Bash in Manchester last weekend. The woman in question was ejected from the club herself after spitting at Rooney, and The Duke through his agent is denying any wrong doing on his own behalf. What's next for the Blues, after this incident and Dunc's, Mickey Mouse alleging sexual misconduct by one of the lads on their last trip to Florida.

Wayne's Agent Paul Stretford says: "Any allegations being made against Wayne are fatuous and entirely false. The only untoward incident Wayne was aware of in the nightclub in question was when he was subject to a volley of verbal abuse from a young woman. Although he did not respond in any way, she spat at him and was subsequently ejected from the nightclub. Wayne was enjoying a perfectly legitimate night out after a big match. He was entirely sober throughout the evening. Wayne will cooperate fully with any police investigation. It is not something that causes Wayne or his management a moment's concern." (13/02/04)

Remember The Name, Wayne Rooney

Congratulations go to Wayne Rooney, who last evening won the Echo's Merseyside Sports Personality of the Year. 2003 was a year that seen The Duke cement a regular England place, aswell as becoming the youngest ever English goal scorer. On hand to compere the evening was one Clive Tyldesley who's commentary on the day Wayne broke onto the scene as a 17 year old against Arsenal, will go down in history along side other great commentaries, such as ' Winston Churchill, Lord Nelson, Clement Attlee, Maggie Thatcher, yes Maggie Thatcher your boys took one hell of a beating.' Jogger I need my medication again, do you know where it is.

The Duke says: "I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. This means a lot to me, especially because it is in my home town. I have to thank all the coaches at Everton, at England, my family and my girlfriend Colleen." (03/02/04)

New Balls Please

Wayne Rooneys balls were a topic of discussion, when Everton said that the youngsters wayward shots in the warm up, were costing the club thousands, as supporters were failing to return the balls. A small fortune can be made, we are told by flogging a ball that the Everton superstar has kicked, so at the next home game Wayne, would you aim some, at the Upper Bullens, around the half way line. Cheers mate.

Kit Boss Jimmy Martin says : "I would urge our supporters to return all the balls that end up in the crowd. Apart from the financial angle, our warm up routine are being disrupted." (26/01/04)

One Of England's Best

Wayne Rooney has been voted second to sexy Becks as England's player of 2003. Rooney who only made his International debut in February aged eight polled nearly a fifth of all votes cast, by members of The England Official Supporters Club. The FA's website praised The Duke for his 'pace, skill, and aggression, with impressive maturity'. Rooney who became England's youngest ever goal scorer to boot in 2003, will collect his award of an England bobble hat and scarf off Sven, at the next England get together. (06/01/04)

OPTA Player of The Month For December

The Duke has won Everton's OPTA's Player of the Month for December. He beat Stubbsy and Unsey into second and third place, showing with two defenders doing so well that Everton are getting harder to beat than ever. Rooney came off the bench to score in three of Everton's victories in the month, to help his team into a mid table position at the turn of the year. (02/01/04)

No Snub To Moyesy

Moyesy is adamant that the recent goal celebrations where the Duke has been running towards the bench, is not aimed at himself, for leaving the youngster on the bench. There is a box behind Moyesy's dug out that Wayne is running to celebrate with. The box is said to be of normal size, light brown in colour, and made of cardboard.

Moyesy says : "I'm sure Wayne would prefer to be in the starting line up. But he has a box behind our dug out where his Mum, Dad and agent Paul Stretford sit and that's where he's been running the last two games. I think he's been going to share the moment with them." (01/01/04)

World's Most Expensive Rub a Dub

First team coach Alan Irvine has praised The Duke's ability in changing games when coming on as a rub a dub. The Roonster has come off the bench and contributed goals in the Blues last three victories, to push the trickies to mid table safety.

Alan Irvine says: "The last three games as a substitute, he’s come off and scored a goal. Being a substitute has probably taken a little bit of pressure off his shoulders and it gives everyone a lift when he comes off the bench. He’s happy that he’s got the goal. Once again he’s come off the bench and made an impact and if people cast their minds back, he did that a lot last season." (29/12/03)

Europe, Why Not

The Duke thinks that if we can string a set of results together, Europe may not be a distant dream. The Blues who missed out on the UEFA Cup on the last day of last season, are only five points of a Champions League spot, but also lie only four points off a bottom three berth. With the league the tightest that I can ever remember, lets hope our good Christmas form continues at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

Rooney says:"If we can put a run of results together similar to last year and keep the pressure on those teams above us then I don't see why we can't get into Europe. There is an excellent spirit within the dressing room. The season has been okay so far but we know there is room for improvement." (24/12/03)

Super Sub

The Duke has come off the bench in successive weeks and scored important goals for Everton. It just goes to show that a goal does your confidence a world of good.

Moyesy says: "He is now doing the job he did for us last season by coming on and either helping us win or draw games. I think you can see by his face and his body language that he is enjoying things more at the present time. We've a good selection of strikers here and we've some experienced players and we have to do what we think is right for the club." (22/12/03)

My Dream

On these cold winter evenings, here is some news to warm any Blue up, that The Roonster would love one day to captain the Blues to League winning glory. The wonder kid who has come a long way since ' that goal ' is still contrary to reports delighted to be pulling on an Everton jersey.

Rooney says: "Hopefully I will captain the side one day, when the manager appoints me. I want to win the league with Everton and a major tournament with England. I couldn't have imagined that I would have done what I have done from the day I scored that goal against Arsenal until now. It's been great. It's gone incredibly quick and when I look back scoring that goal seems like yesterday. It's just flown by. I think I have matured a lot as a player and as a person as well. The players, the manager, my family and my agents have all helped me to express myself a bit rather than sitting there in the corner dead quiet." (15/12/03)

The Duke Deserves His Look

Wayne Rooney scored his second goal of the season against Pompey in Everton's 1st away win this season. He came on after 25 mins for the injured Steve Watson, and was always in the game. He had a bit of luck Today. Firstly with his goal, which was deflected in & then when everybody thought he'd been sent off for a push on Steve Stone, he was just booked. Things are looking up for Wayne. He deserves a bit of luck.

Moyesy says: "I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before. I saw Wayne push him and we all thought he would get the red as everybody knows what normally happens when you push somebody. Normally, when you push someone, you have to face the consequences - so Wayne knows he was lucky. I’ve spoken to Wayne and he knows that he was very fortunate and maybe for Wayne it will be the thing that makes him think that enough is enough. I felt that he needed a break but he proved last season that he can come on and score goals and he did it again today. He looked a lot more relaxed today when I told him that he wasn’t playing but for a boy of 18 he’s doing tremendously well. He got a good goal and there was a lot more sparkle about him when he came on so maybe that’s the way we’ll have to use him.” (14/12/03)

Short Straw

Wayne Rooney drew the short straw, when Moyesy decided to drag him off at half time, when his decision to play three small men up front back fired with another inept performance from our attacking line. Rumours are rife that all is not well in the Goodison dressing room, but as ever Moyesy is playing his cards close to his chest.

Moyesy says: "I'm not overly concerned about Wayne, as I keep saying he's the best 18 year old in the country and he will have peaks and troughs. Maybe he is trying too hard, but he is important to us and that's why I keep picking him. What goes on in the dressing room is between me and the team, not for anyone else." (08/12/03)

Come In Number 18, Your Time Is Up.

Everton boss Davey Moyes has hinted that he may leave the Roonster on the bench in the future, as the youngster is looking tired and jaded. Moyesy believes that the expectations on Rooney's shoulders at club and international are wearing heavily on him, and a run on the bench may do him the world of good.

Moyesy says: "Let’s remember his age and what is expected of him. He’s a great player with great ability and potential, so we will just need to look after him. Maybe we have been playing him too much, maybe we have to look at it and say he’s starting too many games and we are expecting too much from him. I think we all expect too much and maybe even Wayne on occasions feels he has to live up to that but in the main he is a terrific player and he is going to go on to become a great player. We just need to realise ourselves that he is a young boy who is still learning and not every boy of 18 can play well in every game and play as everybody expects him to play." (30/11/03)

Still Learning

Moyesy is warning The Roonster about not succumbing to the celebrity life style, after the youngster jetted off to Madrid to promote a soft drinks company. Wayne though feels he is maturing and with each game he feels he is getting better and better.Let's hope he does the business, as you feel then Moyesy will not be bothered to much about his little off field activities.

Moyesy says: "I'd say your day off is for resting. He had my permission to go, but he won't be doing too many of them. It'll be interesting to see how he reacts this weekend having done it." (29/11/03)

Wayne says: "It’s been a great year for me with England and Everton but I know I have to keep on learning. As the games have gone on I feel I've done better and better in each of them. Obviously it's good when people talk about you and say so many nice things. I hear what the people are saying but I know that I have to keep going forward as a player. I think you have to show maturity when you play, and improve that all the time. At international level, every mistake will get punished. You have to be on your toes every second. I just try to go out and do my job, playing my football and enjoying it. As long as I can do that, I'll be happy. But there are moments that you look back on later when you watch the videos and think that you could've done better. I have got to keep learning and listening every time I join up so I come back to Everton a better player. (29/11/03)

Boyhood Dream

The Roonster who is now a key element in Swedish Sven's England set up, has said he would love to follow in Everton fan and England International Matt Dawson's footsteps, and win honors with England. The Roonster though has a job to do for the Blues first before his mind starts wandering to sunnier climbs.

Our Wayne says: "I was so excited for Matt to win the World Cup especially in such a fantastic game with an amazing climax. You couldn't have had a better way to win it. That was the perfect end, with Jonny Wilkinson scoring to beat the hosts. Maybe we could do the same sort of thing in Portugal. When you're very young you think about playing in World Cups and European Championships and now I might get the chance to do that and go to Portugal with a great England team. And we have the ability to win it. (28/11/03)

Madrid Bound

Don't worry folks, Wayne is not about to sign for the Spanish giants Real Madrid, he has been in the city to do some promotional work for Coca Cola. Though I am sure given the chance Madrid manager Carlos Quieroz would have loved to have spoken to our Wayne, because as we all know he is the Real Thing. (27/11/03)

England Goal

The Duke scored for England in the friendly against Denmark after 3 minutes with his first shot of the match. It flew in off the underside of the bar. Minutes later, he could have scored a second, but played in Joe Cole to score to make it 2-1 for England. (16/11/03)

Rooney Joins Up With The England Squad

All change as The Roonster is now fit enough to join up with the England squad this afternoon. His virus has now passed through him and was last spotted leaving the Mersey estuary, heading west towards the coastline of Ireland.

Basil Rathbone says: "We went to see him yesterday and he was quite unwell but the doctor has been to see Wayne again this morning and after 24 hours rest and a good night's sleep he is much improved. We have since spoken with the medical staff at the Football Association and informed them that we are happy he's improved enough to join up with the England squad."(13/11/03)

The FA's Head of Media Relations Adrian Bevington says: "We are hopeful that he will be able to take part in Sunday's match at Old Trafford "(13/11/03)

He's Got The Two Bob Bits Aswell

The Roonster has gone down with the virus that is sweeping through Goodison like a dose of salts. His chances of joining up with the England squad for this weekends friendly against Denmark are very slim indeed. Everton are liasing with the medical staff at The FA, but as the squad don't assemble till Thursday every chance will be given to Rooney to make the prove his fitness.

Mick'Basil' Rathbone says: "Myself and the club doctor have visited Wayne this morning and he is feeling very unwell. He is suffering from the exact symptoms as the other players who have been affected and we are assuming that it's the same viral condition. It is a particularly nasty bug that affects you for a period of 5-6 days. We will continue to monitor his progress every day and we are liasing closely with the medical staff at the FA over his condition."(12/11/03)

In Squad for The Denmark Friendly

The Duke is in the England squad to face Denmark for the friendly game at Old Trafford on Sunday, 16th November 2003. (10/11/03)

Europe Or Bust

The Roonster has dismissed Chelsea's interest in him as laughable, and says his ambition is to play in Europe with the Blues. Judging on our recent run of form, I think eventually he may get a bit pissed off with just playing pre season friendlies on the continent, as that's all I can see our European excursions resulting in.

Rooney says: "I'm happy to be at Everton. I've only just signed my contract, so I am not interested in anything Chelsea have to say. When the stories about Chelsea were in the media, I just started laughing. I want to play in Europe with Everton and hopefully we can get there in the next few years. I think going away with England has helped my game. Most of the England players have played in the Champions League or in Europe. That's made me hungry for that experience with Everton." (02/11/03)

Alder Hey To Benefit From Party

Wayne Rooney's agent today went on the offensive over the simmering row about the youngsters eighteenth birthday party. He has let it be known that all the monies raised, through a deal with a celebrity magazine, will go to benefit Alder Hey Hospital of which Wayne is now a patron. In today's game when sexual allegations, and players antics seemed to hit the front pages rather than the back of our tabloids, isn't it refreshing to see a youngster who knows his name can generate a lot of interest and money, doing something as charitable as this.Hey but that's just my opinion.

Wayne's Agent Paul Stretford says: "I respect David as the manager of Everton Football Club to know what is right and what is wrong for Wayne Rooney above all else. Proactive have to hold our hands up and say if more information about the party had been made available to David he would have been able to make a more considered decision. Wayne’s parents wanted to throw a party for him and asked for our opinion on it. I felt it would be difficult for Wayne to have a normal 18th, that is, going around town with your mates. So, at the family’s and Wayne’s behest, we decided to hold a party that would benefit others. Alder Hey had approached us about Wayne becoming a patron there and he was immediately interested in the idea. He comes from an area with tough financial circumstances and he knows what it’s like to be on the other side of the fence. The party is not about Wayne promoting himself as a showbiz personality, but he is using that fame to generate funds for Alder Hey hospital. One minute we are castigating our players for not living their lives the way we want them to as role models, and here is a lad of 18 taking a responsible position,There is an exclusive buy-up in a celebrity magazine and all that money will go to the hospital. These things go on but he is not putting that money in his pocket. He has a social awareness and believes he can help others. This one event will raise tens of thousands of pounds for Alder Hey and Wayne should be applauded for having the common sense to realise. (26/10/03)

Gagging Order Lifted

As well as getting a bike, the new Play Station 2 and the latest Britney album, for his birthday, Wayne was allowed to remove the gag around his mouth and speak to the assembled media at Bellefield for the first time.He has assured the fans, that despite the persistent rumours, He is going nowhere.

Our Wayne says: "I only signed a contract with Everton nine months ago and I am happy with that, I just want to play for Everton. My aim is still to do well as I possibly can with Everton and hopefully I will get into Europe with Everton soon and win the European Championships with England next summer. That would be a great achievement for everybody involved and would cap off a great year." (25/10/03)

Happy Birthday From The Boss

On the eve of Wayne's eighteenth birthday, Moyesy has come out and told the world his thoughts on our precocious young talent, especially the pressures he has faced this season, after bursting onto the scene last season, in the fashion he did.

Moyesy says: "So far this season Wayne's form has not been too good and I would imagine every Evertonian you speak to would say the same thing. With maybe the exception of the game at Charlton, I think Wayne has been a little bit below the standards he has set and he is very aware of that. When you are so young you don't really understand what you have come into and don't think quite so deeply about how it will change your life. This year players have decided to get stuck right into him.Nobody has had a talent like Wayne Rooney in this country for a long, long time.He worked hard to get to the level he has got to and, coupled with his natural talent, it has been great to work with him." (23/10/03)

Party Pooper

David Moyes has expressed his fears about Our Waynes' forthcoming birthday bash at Aintree Racecourse. With the likes of Robbie Williams, and Atomic Kitten on the guest list, Moyesy believes that the party is being hijacked for publicity reasons.I think he has a titty on because he has not been invited back to the house after the main doo.

Moyesy says: "I don't think he needs this. It wouldn't be the advice he would get from me. I disagree with his people on this occasion. It smells too much of publicity. The thing that comes to my mind is trying to remember David Beckham's 18th birthday party or Ryan Giggs'. Can you? No. Exactly." (21/10/03)

King's Ransom

This Chelski Bid. Moyesy has said it's cock & bull. Now Bill Kenwright has joined in with his twopeneth worth. Blue Bill says: "Wayne Rooney is going nowhere. David Moyes and I sing from the same hymn sheet and always said any club would have to pay a king's ransom for a player like Rooney. He is part of the fabric at our football club. A talent like Wayne's comes along once in a lifetime. We are only concerned at his progress in the blue shirt of Everton. He's a blue and wants to remain a blue.'' What's a King's Ransom? £50m? £60m? (17/10/03)

New Deal On The Way

Wayne Rooney looks like extending his current three year deal, by another five years shortly before Christmas. His last contract signed in February could only be signed for a maximum of three years, as current ruling states that any one under eighteen, can only be contracted for this period. With Rooney turning eighteen next week, the club will be keen to tie him up for as long as possible.Blue Kipper.com have it on good authority, that as yet no deal is on the table, but all parties are a keen to sit down and strike a contract out as soon as possible. With Wayne being an avid Evertonian the deal hopefully will be a formality and keep him at the club long into the future. (14/10/03)

Seconds Out, Round One

Wayne Rooney did probably what every blue blooded English man wanted to do on Saturday night, and gave Alpay a right hook whilst going down the tunnel at half time.Seconds earlier the Turkish toss pot had goaded England captain David Beckham about references to his mother.Beckham who has talked glowingly about Our Wayne in the past, had the favour returned by ex schoolboy boxer Roons who apparently laid the stupid Turkish tit out.Whilst Blue Kipper.com does not condone violence in any shape or form, I for one was absolutely delighted when I heard Rooney had twatted the big shit house of a footballer. The England players, tried to play down the half time fracas but reports say that up to 50 people were involved, including players, officials, and the police.Rooney is suspended for this weekends Southampton game, but is eligible for the game the week after. You have guessed it, against Villa and Alpay the arse hole. Can't fucking wait.

Sol Campbell says: "There was a commotion, but it's quite a tight tunnel.Everyone just went to the changing rooms and that was it really." (13/10/03)

Rooney Watch v Turkey (11/10/03)

In Wayne's short career, I doubt whether he has ever experienced an intimidating atmosphere as the one that faced him last night.Like most challenges that have been placed before him,his outward demeanor tells us not to worry, because his isn't,and last evening in The Sukru Saracoglu Stadium was no different.England started the game very positive, with Rooney instrumental in a lot of the forward play, his holding up off the ball with his strong physique was starting to wind the Turks up,and a few rash challenges were aimed in his direction. His maturity and temperament were clear to see,and at no time was he the liability some observers commented he would be.A lovely bit of skill, when he cut inside the Turkish right full back, leaving him on his arse, was a joy to watch, but unfortunately the final ball in was not quite good enough. In the 26th minute all England fans held their breath as a delightful through ball was controlled by Rooney in his stride. As Rustu the Turks keeper advanced on the striker, he lifted the ball over his head, and it seemed to take an age to come down, unfortunately for us onto the roof of the net.One or two half chances fell his way,but all in all it was one of Rooney's quieter matches by his own remarkable standards.Dyer came on for Wayne in the 73rd minute, as Eriksson decided rightly at that point to strengthen his midfield to earn the point required to take us to Portugal next year.Since April, Rooney has played a part in all five of England's Euro Qualifying matches, scoring two goals, and bagging a brace of M.O.M.'s along the way.He has certainly played his part in getting his Country to the finals next year, and he is now very definitely an integral part of the England set up.

Alan Shearer says: "There were one or two moments from Rooney that were special and all in all England knew they had to put in a performance tonight, and that’s exactly what they did.” (12/10/03)

Ray Wilkins says: “He played with great maturity and showed a side that people didn’t think he had,he showed composure tonight.” (12/10/03)

Cometh The Hour, Cometh The Man

Sweedish Sven, and Sexy Becks are backing Wayne to take things in his stride, in the hostile atmosphere in Fenerbache's Sukru Saracoglu Stadium this evening. The Everton striker who has scored in his last two appearances for his country starts up front with the shites Emily Heskey, and hopefully he can repeat his M.O.M. performance against the Turks back in April, to guide England to Euro 2004 in Portugal next summer.

Sven says: "I think that Wayne Rooney is as cool as he has always been. When he sees a football, he doesn't think about other things. He takes things in his stride. The only problem that he's had lately is that he hasn't played from the start for Everton in the past three games." (11/10/03)

Beautiful Becks says: "Wayne played well against Turkey before, when he was man-of-the-match so let's hope he does the same again, as He has the ability to." (11/10/03)

Will He Start ?

Alan Irvine added his thoughts on whether Wayne Rooney will start tommorow evening's crunch Euro 2004 qualifier in Istanbul.Although not good news for Rio Ferdinand, Irvine believes the spotlight being moved off him, will be an advantage to the Everton youngster. He also refuted claims that Rooney led the players dispute, as reports were coming out of the camp at St. Albans, that Wayne was spotted on a picket line with a banner proclaiming 'Honk your horn if you support us.'

Alan Irvine says: "I am glad the spotlight has moved off Wayne, as there appeared to be a growing agenda as to whether Wayne was ready for such an important game because of the yellow cards he has picked up.I am also sure his involvement in the players action will have been minimal. He will simply have followed the lead of the senior players, as quite a few of the younger players will have done." (10/10/03)

Dream Team

Everton's luvvie Chairman Bill Kenwright, just can't give up on his thespian roots. In a recently filmed episode for the Sky One drama Dream Team, Bill appears as himself to quash rumours that Wayne is on his way to the programmes fictional team Harchester United.

Blue Bill says: “It was a wonderful afternoon’s filming. The extraordinary thing was that there was a line in it that they had to cut, where they wanted me to say, ‘Look, we’ve got to quash these stories that happen every day.But they never do, you never hear of Wayne Rooney actually being sold to any club, because I think the world knows that he’s a Blue, he’s an Evertonian and he’s going nowhere There’s no shopping at Everton for Wayne Rooney. (08/10/03)

Turkey Talk

Super Kev has given young Wayne a lesson or two in mastering a few choice phrases in Turkish. After The Duke's performances with Referees over the last few weeks, you wouldn't have thought he needed it.

Kevin Campbell says: "I have spoken to him about Turkey for weeks now. After the Liechtenstein game he came in the next day buzzing because he had scored one and everyone was pleased for him. I said 'You better be prepared for Turkey' and gave him some phrases to use. I'm not saying whether they were swear words or not. I just said 'That's your armoury and don't forget if you need a recap ring me.' I don't know whether he remembers them because Turkish is a pretty difficult language to master, but I have no doubts about him anyway to be honest. I think he will do really well." (08/10/03)

Stuffed Turkey

All Time Everton Great Graeme Sharp, entered the growing National debate on whether Wayne Rooney should start this weekend's crunch Euro 2004 Qualifier against Turkey. Rooney's temperament has been called into doubt by some quarters in the press this week, but Everton's post war leading goalscorer has absolutely no doubts that the young Blues striker is the right man for the job.

Sharpy says: “I think the press have gone a little bit over the top, everybody knows he’s a young lad and I think it’s just solely because England have got an important game coming up. Everybody knows what the atmosphere’s going to be like in Turkey and they’re looking at that and questioning Wayne’s temperament. He should play against Turkey. I don’t think that would be a problem to him. People worry about the fact that he could get wound up and everything else but I think the lad wants to play football, he’s committed and can't afford to take that away from him.You hear so-called experts coming on and saying they shouldn’t play him because of the temperament. It’s another game, yes, a high pressure game, probably the highest pressure game he’s ever going to encounter but he’s good enough to play in it and that’s the most important thing. They are extremely intimidating circumstances in Turkey. They are very, very volatile over there and it’s a massive game for both countries but England have got enough experience in there. They had a good result against Turkey at home and they'll be looking for at least a draw, which is good enough for them. It will be a difficult game but I think Wayne Rooney can handle it.With his talent with the ball at his feet he will cause problems so he should play. I don’t care, you can build it up however you like but if you want to win a game, or at least get a draw, then you need to pick your best team and Wayne Rooney comes into that equation." (07/10/03)

Engaged?

Rumours are flying around that Wayne has got engaged to his girlfriend Coleen. Apparently she's been seen around the city with a big rock on her finger. Nice One! (06/10/03)

Suspended

Wayne picked up his fifth booking of the season on Saturday against Spurs for saying too much to Dermot Gallagher. He will now be suspended for the home game against Southampton. (05/10/03)

Robbie and Rooney

Robbie Williams will be leading the celebrations when Our Wayne reaches his 18th birthday in a couple of weeks time. The two superstars have struck up a friendship over the past couple of months, and the Staffordshire crooner has been asked to attend the Everton strikers forthcoming party, were no doubt he will belt out some of his finest hits. The singer also has an open invite to Goodison off Wonderboy, and has in his possession a number nine England shirt with Rooney emblazoned on the back. The tradition of pop stars attending footballers parties started back in the mid 70's when the Shite requested The Dooleys perform at an end of season do.

Sex God Robbie says: "Wayne Rooney, you are a God. He's young and really talented and scores bags of goals. He seems like a bit of a character too. I hope Wayne's going to be one of football's legends, and he will be if he can keep a level head." (01/10/03)

Club v Country

Moyesy is heading straight for a club versus country over you guessed it Our Wayne. Ulri ka's fella, Sven is apparently not to chuffed, that Wayne has not started an Everton match, since the 1-0 defeat by 'Boro a fortnight ago. With the Blues other forwards in a rich vein of form at the moment, Moyesy is spoilt for choice with attacking options. It seems highly unlikely that Rooney will start against Spurs on Saturday, so that means by the time the Turkish game comes around Wayne will not have had a full ninety minutes in nearly three weeks. When Moyesy was asked if he would continue to handle Rooney carefully he answered fiercely "Very much so". (30/09/03)

Going Nowhere!

With rumours flying about that Chelski, Man Utd, & Real Madrid are ready to bid £30m plus, Bill Kenwright has come out & said he'll never sell The Duke.
Blue Bill says: “With the sale of one player you can wipe out all your problems, but what am I here for? I get a feeling above and beyond money when I see that kid in a Blue shirt. To know he’s a Blue and has been a Blue all his life. It transcends money. Bill Kenwright will not sell Wayne Rooney. He’s going nowhere. Wayne is an Evertonian, he doesn’t want to leave. And he needs David Moyes.” (28/09/03)

Extra Homework

Everton boss David Moyes has Wayne sitting up watching videos of the masters Shearer and Van Nistelrooy to bring his game on to the next level. Whilst most kids of his age are sneaking up stairs to watch a whole different kind of film, poor old Wayne has to for now put his Jordan video on the back burner.

Moyesy says: "Right now, I’d say he is a very, very good player but not yet the great one he is equipped to be. Everything he has now is completely natural. Nobody else can claim a shred of credit for what he is, but there is a responsibility to educate him while preserving all that natural talent. We do specific coaching with him and show him videos of the likes of Alan Shearer or Ruud van Nistelrooy and tell him, here are people who are very good at things we want you to be good at. The next two or three years will be vitally important, the time that can be the making of a truly great player. I’m lucky to be working with him.His breakthrough into the Premiership and the national team has not affected that attitude in the least. He has been going to every reserve match he could possibly attend, travelling on the bus with the lads as far as mid-Wales. The difference between good players and great players is often humility. At the moment he is showing that. Wayne’s an absolutely terrific boy and He’s a breath of fresh air. As soon as he is out on the training field he wants to be doing something with a ball. I’ve got to say to him, Would you go and stretch and do some proper warming up. That’s the biggest thing about him, his hunger to play and to be involved with the game. We’ve all got to be careful about how we handle Wayne, of giving him the maximum chance of realising his full potential.” (16/09/03)

No Big Worry

After his brilliant performances for England we couldn't wait to see Wayne in the Everton shirt. But his day was cut short when he had to go off with an ankle problem after 30 minutes, but hopefully it isn't a big problem.

Moyesy said: "He will train next week and we shall see how it goes. These things happen, it was nothing to do with the challenge."(14/09/03)

ROONEY WATCH: v Liechtenstein 10/09/03

Young Wayne makes his fourth competitive start for England this evening at Old Trafford. As the game unfolds we will endeavour to give you an unbiased comment about our Wayne's performance. bluekipper.com try their very best to not get carried away with our young super star, but it's hard.

Pre Match : Wayne by far looks the smartest player in his lovely white kit. When introduced to the dignitaries Wayne was the only one who Sir Bobby stopped to talk to, even one of the all time greats knew he was in the presence of genius. When the teams were read out, Wayney got the loudest cheer, and in my opinion his hair style looked better than Becks.

3 mins: First touch wide right, mis hit a cross that the keeper had to scurry back to collect it on the line.
5 mins: Defensive duties are called on as he tracks back to force a Liechtenstien throw.
8 mins: First chance with a powerful header on the edge of the eighteen yard box, resulting in a fine tip over from an in form keeper.
13 mins: Nice 1-2 with Becks,to gain a throw.Deep throw from Gary Chuckle, lovely cushioned header from Beckham and first time half volley over from Rooney.
19 mins: Gained possession on the left hand side. Easily skipped past one defender, and put in a superb cross to Beckham who took it on the half volley and rattled it against the bar.
25 mins: Rooney picked the ball up on the half way line, and put a defence splitting pass to Fuck
Face, who was marginally offside.
28 mins: This has got jack shit to do with Wayne, but I could not let it pass that the stupid kopite
muppet missed an open goal. The fuckin' knob jockey.
31 mins: Another defence splitting ball to Beckham, whose cross shot was well gathered.
34 mins: Picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area, skipped past one challenge, and unleashed
a left foot drive, which the keeper saved well.
37 mins: A deep cross from Neville was flicked on by Beattie.Rooney tries an audacious over head
kick, which went narrowly over.

Half Time 0-0

46 mins: Lovely lay off to Gerrard, crossed into Twathead who made up for his embarrassing gaff in
the first half, header 1-0.
52 mins: YES, if any body deserved a goal, our Wayne did. A fantastic deep cross from Beckham, and it kills me to say it, but a lovely cushioned header from Gerrard. Rooney peeled away from his
marker to make the space to smash it into the bottom left hand corner.
61 mins: After regaining his breath, more defensive duties as he tracked back to tackle and concede
a throw.
70 mins: First to the showers,as Erikkson does well bringing him off.Job done so he decides to save his legs for Newcastle on Saturday.Sven keeping Moyesy sweet, well played. A standing ovation was
thoroughly deserved.

Full Time 2- 0

Summary: Without taking the piss the seventeen year old ran the show.Sven showed his trust in Wayne by affording him a free role. His tactics worked a treat. Every move seemed to go through Wayne, who controlled the play with a maturity beyond his tender years. His tracking back to help out the midfield and defence shows the unselfish side of his play. He chased every loose ball with
boundless energy, and his vision was Sheedyesque. His awareness of the play and the players
around him was fantastic, and really there are not enough superlatives in the dictionary to describe
this genius. The man of the match was a fitting tribute to this young superstar, and I for one cannot wait for Saturday to give him my standing ovation for a truly memorable performance. (10/09/03)

The Duke Starts

Wayne starts tonight as England manager, Sven Goran Ericksen goes for goals in the Euro Champianship game against Liechenstein. There will be a 'Wayne Watch' tonight. It will be online straight after the final whistle. (10/09/03)

The Youngest

At the age of aged 17 years 317 days Wayne became the youngest player ever to score for England in last night's victory over Macedonia.    Get The Wallpaper

Wayne said:"It was a great feeling for me to score my first England goal, even better knowing it was in such an important game. If I'm being honest, I have to say that the result is more important to me than scoring the goal because it was a vital win for us. It was a difficult game in difficult circumstances, but once again all the lads worked hard and showed the never-say-die spirit."

Sven said: "The talent is there, the quality is there with Wayne. Of course he has a lot to learn, but if things go to plan, he can go very, very far. Wayne can score goals, he is a very strong player, so congratulations to him for becoming the youngest ever England goalscorer."

Becks said: "Everyone knows what a great player Wayne is. He's a great lad with a great family and a great club behind him but we have always known the type of performance he is capable of producing. (07/09/03)

Wayne To Play

Wayne Rooney will play for England against Macedonia on Saturday, Sven has got to decide who plays up front with him. (05/09/03)

Recalled

Sven has recalled Wayne to the England squad for Euro 2004 qualifiers with Macedonia and Liechtenstein.

Sven said "Rooney was much better physically against Charlton than when I saw him against Arsenal. That was very positive."(31/08/03)

Bookings

David Moyes is getting chessed off with all the bookings that Wayne is picking up. He believes the refs are waiting to book him for nothing just because of who he is. He will approach referees' Cheif Philip Don for his thoughts.

Moyesy said:"I just feel at the moment that every time Wayne Rooney plays referees are desperate to get him booked. I find it quite incredible and I will be making contact with Philip Don to express that feeling to him as we have the means to that now. I didn't feel there was a serious tackle in the game and he was so quick in getting his card out - it was like it was in his hand before he did it."(27/08/03)

Ready

David Moyes has suggested to Sven that Wayne is ready for England, not that Sven wouldn't know this for himself after watching Wayne scoring a brilliant goal from the stands against Charlton.

Moyesy said: I think Wayne should be selected. We want all the English players at Everton selected for England. I can only tell you when I think Wayne's right and when he's not. "He's getting fitter but he's not quite getting past people the way he can. I felt he was flagging a bit in the second half and looked like he was on his knees again. The goal gave him that extra incentive and dragged him on. So we stuck with him, he got the goal and we're pleased we got 90 minutes out of him.(27/08/03)

Partnership

Wayne and The Rad won't be the biggest strike force in the world, but David Moyes may be prepared to give it time to develop.

Moyesy said:"Time will tell whether Wayne and Tomasz can form a partnership. They are both small, very elusive and extremely quick with ability to create goals from very little. It sounds good, but I do not want us to become what people might consider a small side. We have been waiting to see whether Radzinski and Rooney can form a partnership together, if they can it will be important for us."(25/08/03)

Not Ready??

Even with his 2 against for the Reserves David Moyes may resist from putting Wayne on from the start against Fulham on Saturday.

Moysey said:"I still think he's short of match practice. I think he is quite a bit off yet before he is ready to play. The game would have done him really good."(21/08/03)

The Duke Scores

Wayne Rooney scored twice for the reserves in tonight's game against Newcastle. For the first he was on hand to crash home a blocked shot from the edge of the box. For the second, he controlled a driven cross, & turned to hit a rising shot into the top of the net. The Duke played well in his comeback game, & should be in contention for a starting place against Fulham game on Saturday. (20/08/03)

Reserves @ Southport

The Duke is set to play for the reserves against Newcastle @ Southport tomorrow. Moyesy says: "I think he needs a week's football training with me and then a reserves game with us on Wednesday night." (19/08/03)

No England Selection

Sven has left The Duke out of his latest England squad, as he is still not 100% fit.
Moyesy says: "If Wayne was fit, I'd have started with him. Instead, I think he needs a week's football training with me and then a reserves game with us on Wednesday night. He had a slight groin strain in pre-season and missed a bit, and then picked up a foot injury which kept him out for three or four weeks. He's done quite a lot of running but no football and I feel he would be better suited with two or three days' more working with us. He just trained with us on Thursday morning and then had a very light session on Friday morning." (17/08/03)

The Duke Passes His Driving Test

Young Wayne can now drive himself to training after passing his test. He now has a new SportsKA, as part of a sponsorship deal. There is no truth in the rumour that he will have the piss taken out of him unmercifully by the other players who arrive in their Mercs, & Beamers. (12/08/03)

Outside Chance

Wayne has an outside chance of making the Arsenal match. He will now start full training this week-end. It is a case of fingers crossed.

Mick Rathbone said:" Wayne’s been given the go ahead by the specialist to do some light jogging and he’s just run a couple of miles. He felt absolutely no reaction to his injury and if he continues to feel ok, we’ll step up the intensity of his training at the weekend. We’re all delighted with the progress Wayne has made and hopefully he’ll continue his recovery in a similar fashion." (07/08/03)

Road To Recovery

Knowing the boy like he does Moysey reckons Wayne could be back a bit sooner than first we thought and the break could do him some good.

Moysey said:"Hopefully the injury doesn't keep him out too much and I would say there's still an outside chance he could be available for the first game of the season. It's quite a bad twist he's got and we expect him to be out for four weeks, but knowing the boy there's a chance he could be back much sooner than that."

"He will do lots of cycling and swimming until he can bear weight on the ankle again. But he has done all the pre-season work. He's got that behind him and is already in good shape. I always felt he would take a little bit longer than the other lads because of his inexperience."(30/07/03)
