| As reported earlier on bluekipper, James Vaughan has been called up to the England U17's for the forthcoming Euro Championships in Italy. It is fantastic news for James, who recently broke a host of records, locally and nationally, but bad news for Moyesy. It will mean the youngster will miss Everton's crucial finish in the Premiership, especially the game against Newcastle. Depending on England's progress in the Tournament, James may also miss the crucial matches at Arsenal, and Bolton. Sign off tonight James against the Mancs. Congratulations also go to Everton's youngster Scott Phelan who has been called up along side James to the squad. The futures that bright, I'm having to wear shades. Do us proud boys. (20/04/05) Everton Legend, Joe Royle has passed on his best wishes to Jimmy, who broke his record of the youngest ever Everton senior player. Jimmy broke Joe Royle's record as Everton's youngest player by 11 days. Joe says: "It was something I wasn't all that aware of at the time, but it was something I grew prouder and prouder of as the years passed and it is still a record I am immensely proud to have held.. I didn't even know there was a chance of it being beaten last weekend. I hadn't heard that James had been named substitute and I was on the training pitch preparing for our game at Wolves when it was broken. Our coach driver, who is a Scouser, came running over and told me I wasn't the youngest player any more. I thanked him for letting me know so promptly! I'm delighted for James and it's great for Evertonians as well. He’s another young prospect to look out for and I hope he goes on to become a very good player. But he still hasn't started a game for the first team yet! I must still have a share of it!” (14/04/05) Sixteen year old James Vaughan is likely too miss Everton's run in, due to England U17's commitments. James will be on duty for the National side in May, as they play in the European Championship's in Italy. This means Vaughany will definitely miss the games against Newcastle, Arsenal and Bolton, at the end of the season. (13/04/05) Everton chairman Blue Bill was proud as punch as he witnessed young James Vaughan break three records on Sunday. Obvious comparisons are being made to a certain Wayne Rooney, but Bill is just delighted that another young talent has made his way through the ranks. Blue Bill says: "You can spend zillions but still there are youngsters who come to you as kids and make the grade and then make you feel pretty good inside when you see them break through on to the first-team stage. It was like 'Pinch me I'm dreaming' - but it is totally unfair to compare him with Wayne, even if there was just a moment when you said 'Could he be the next one?' I suppose to come on at 16, score and break three records takes a lot of doing but you shouldn't compare, it is wrong to compare both of them." (13/04/05) The Birmingham-born striker was 16 years and 271 days old when he became a record breaker. Jimmy Vaughan broke four records in the palace game. 1.
The youngest ever Everton senior player. He broke Joe Royle's
record as Everton's youngest post-war player by 11 days. Alan Irvine says: "It’s a dream for him. It’s the kind of thing that as a boy - and he is still a boy - but as a younger boy, it’s the kind of situation that you dream about, coming on at your home ground to make your debut and scoring. You can’t ask for any more. It’s fantastic. Young players tend to get their chance when you end up with no-one else to put in. We are very short at the moment so we gave James his chance, and he has taken it absolutely brilliantly. I am delighted for him. He is in his first year after leaving school and he is a very hard-working striker. He has a lot to learn and a lot of improvement to make, but he makes things happen when he gets on, whether that is for the youth team or now the first team." (11/04/05) James never had a squad number at the beginning of the season. That has all changed due to his progress, having scored 6 goals for the reserves and recently scoring goals for England Under 17's. He has been sub twice this season, against manure in the FA Cup and Villa in the league. Now with injuries to the 1st team squad, he should be on the bench today. Should he come on, he will break the record of being Everton’s youngest-ever post war player, which is held by Joe Royle at 16 years 220 days. Moyesy says: “I’ve got no worries about James’s temperament or ability to handle it. It looks to me as if he is enjoying the step up. If a young player is good enough then we will put them in. We will always give young lads a chance at Everton. He’s a young player who has made terrific progress in the last six months, which is all the time he has had since he left school. Technically he still has a bit to go but he is physically capable and is making good progress.” (10/04/05) |
