Joey threw a siccy in for yesterday's game. Bazza says:"Joseph has been ill, suffering from a temperature and had a rough night on Saturday. The club doctor went to see him and declared him unable to play in the game." (11/04/05) Joey Yobo is looking forward to Sundays clash against the shite, and he is not underestimating the importance of the match. With valuable Champions League points on offer, it is probably the biggest Derby played in years. As Joey says the boys are not panicking, and why should we with an eight point lead at present. Come on You Blue Boys. Joey says: "It is a big game. It’s always a big game against Liverpool (shite) . We’re getting towards the end of the season, there’s nine games to go now, and it’s very important to us that we win as it is for the fans. We are all looking forward to the game. “We’re just taking it step by step. We know its Liverpool (shite); we know we’re ahead of them. We’re not rushing, we’re not panicking. We know it’s a local derby and it’s important for us to go there and get a result.” (16/03/05) Joey Yobo has held his hands up and took the full blame for the goal that handed Blackburn the three points on Sunday. Joey who was bluekipper starman in the same game, had started his third match on the bounce in his favoured centre back position. Head up Joey, there is no better game ahead to make amends, the shite a week Sunday. Joey says: "I think I played well but I lost one ball, I made a mistake and they scored from it. I was a bit disappointed because I thought we put in a great effort and for us to lose the game like that was very disappointing. Overall I was happy with my performance. I feel very bad because I was up for the game and to make a mistake like that, which cost us three points, was very disappointing. As a team we weren’t at our best. We played very well against Aston Villa, took three points away from home, but against Blackburn we suffered a bit." (08/03/05) Joseph was outstanding on Saturday. He had Angel in his pocket. He is now confident that Everton can push on in the final games. Joey says: If we keep playing like we did on Saturday it will be very tough for anyone to beat us. Keep playing like that and we will keep picking up the points we need to achieve what we want to achieve at the end of the season. If we finished in fourth position it would be a massive boost. We don't want to let it slip like we did two seasons ago and so we just need to keep taking points. We are taking it step by step. Saturday was a massive three points for us. It is probably our best performance of the season because we should have been four or five ahead of them. We had lost back to back games against Manchester United and Chelsea and so we were looking forward to this game. We wanted to prove people wrong and show we were capable of bouncing back from those results. And it is a massive boost because we have been able to move eight points ahead of Liverpool. But there is still a long way to go. We are not thinking about them that much, we are just thinking about ourselves and taking it game by game." (01/03/05) Joey Yobo was glad to be back in his favoured central defensive position in the FA Cup win over Sunderland at the weekend. Joey who has lost out to the superb Davey Weir in the pecking order this season, will be hoping his steady display guarantees him a place against Norwich tomorrow evening. Joey says: "I’m really happy to be back in the centre of defence. That’s my best position. At the start of the season I got injured, but since then I’ve been playing in different positions. But against Sunderland, I played in my best position and I am very happy. I am very comfortable there." (01/02/05) Moyesy has no problems with Joey Yobo filling Tommy's boots in midfield. Joey as we know plays midfield for his country Nigeria, and the defender was happy to step into the position for last weeks draw at Boro. With Moyesy's options still limited, we will definitely see Joey in that position when Everton entertain Charlton on Saturday. Moyesy says: "Joseph has played there a number of times for Nigeria and he can certainly fulfil that role. Last weekend we brought Joseph into that position and while it meant moving Lee Carsley, it was the best alternative for that game. That doesn't mean we are going to stick with it for every match, but it is an option I am not worried about using. Thomas Gravesen has gone and we are looking to bring players in. But we still have a number of options in the centre of midfield. Joseph doesn't let us down, whether he is playing centre-half or in midfield because he is a terrific athlete." (20/01/05) Joey should be ok for Saturdays visit of ambitious, high flying Fulham. Sorry was thinking about what the Rad was saying in the Summer. Anyway injury prone Joey is back in training, and listening to what Basil has to say below, I feel he may have took over Dickie Wright's mantle as Frank Spencer's doppelganger. Head Physio and Part Time Super Slueth, Basil Rathbone says: "Joseph is okay. He's had a couple of minor injuries this season. He's had a slight knee problem, a cut above his eye, which ruled him out of the Villa game; and in the last minute of the game at Arsenal, he went over on his foot. It's now five days after the injury and he's running comfortably now. I am sure he'll be back in full training by the end of the week and I am extremely hopeful that he will be fit and available for the Fulham game on Saturday." (16/11/04) A few heads were turned on Saturday when Joey Yobo did not even appear on the bench for the draw against Villa. Conspiracy theorist's had a field day, training ground bust up, fall out with Moyesy, on the piss with Lord Lucan, you know the old chestnuts. Apparently he had a clash of heads in training on Friday which ruled him out with a head full of stitches. Everton are refusing to comment who the clash was with, but bluekipper.com have it on good authority that Elvis Presley knocked into him whilst out riding his horse Shergar. Basil says: "Joseph had an accidental clash of heads in training on Friday morning and had six stitches applied by the club doctor soon afterwards. On the day of the game he was suffering a headache and felt extremely groggy. However, the doctor has been to see him and he appears to be fine now." (01/11/04) Midfield Dynamo With Lee Carsley suspended for 3 games, following his sending off in last night's Carling cup game, and Alan Stubbs likely to be fit for the Villa game, Joseph could stay in the team, but as the holding midfielder. Joey says: "I used to play in midfield for Nigeria but it has been a long time since I played there. If I can do a job, that is fine. It is going to be hard for me because the game is so close. Honestly, I don't know if that is what will happen. I want to play as a centre-half, that is my best position. But you can never say never. I will just go out there, keep training and anything that happens will be fine." (28/10/04) Moyesy is aware that Joey will become the target of top clubs in the future, and wants to tie him to a new deal in. Let's hope it gets signed unlike another contract that was left on the table over the summer. Moyesy says: "Joseph is more than happy here and in the future hopefully we will be sitting down and talking about a new contract rather than him leaving the club. Everybody here respects him as a footballer and as a person. He has got much better in his time here. I remember saying when he came that young centre-halves make mistakes but will get better with age and time and that is certainly the case with Joseph. He is getting much better and is certainly a player I want here. After my discussions with Joe I do not see any danger of there being any change." (17/09/04) Joe is Upset that he's been misquoted about certain things, but one thing is for sure he's happy at Everton. Joey says: “I’m very upset with what has been said. I haven’t spoken to anybody lately. I’m just concentrating on being here, I’m happy here. I’ve signed for Everton. I’ve always said I’m happy here. I’ve never talked about any other clubs. I’m very upset at the moment because I don’t know where this is coming from. At the moment I’ve got a contract with Everton and I’m happy here. This is just ridiculous. Are people trying to get at me? I don’t know, I don’t know where the stories are coming from. Everyone knows I’m happy here. I’ve always said I’m happy at Everton and at this moment we’ve started well in the league. I’m very, very frustrated because I don’t know where this is coming from and I’d be very happy to know where the source is coming from. I want to say to the supporters that I’m happy at Goodison. Somebody wants to get at me. Somebody just wants to create some confusion somewhere, I don’t know where all this is coming from but I’m happy here. I love the people here and I want to stay here. The spirit at Everton is good. The lads would know if I was the type of person who would say this. We are good friends off the pitch as well. It’s all been created for it to come at this moment in time. I’ve always said that some players are going to come in because money’s there. We are happy, we’ve got good players and at the moment we’re doing well. We’re just waiting for the transfer window. I was very happy when I heard that the money was coming in and that we were going to buy players.” Well, we think Joe's HAPPY. (15/09/04) Joey to see out his contract in 2007 Joey reckons he would have left Everton by now if he wasn't committed to the Super Eagles cause. Joey
says: "A lot of people don't understand the sacrifices
we players make to play for Nigeria. I have lost out on big moves because
I play for my country. Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have come
to talk to me. After we had agreed on terms, but at a certain stage,
they ask me if I would consider quitting international football. When
I say no, that's usually the end, otherwise, I would not be at Everton
now. Joey Yobo who missed out on the Blues creditable draw with the Mancs last week, is on target to be fit for a return down the East Lancs to face Shitty, next weekend. Everton physio Basil Rathbone is hoping the two week break will have Joey right as rain for the Premiership fixture. Basil
Rathbone says: "Joseph has had a problem with his right
knee. After the games, he has suffered from a small amount of swelling
in the joint. It started when we came back from America. Joseph played
in the first game and complained that the pitch was very, very hard
and we think that was the start of the problem." Joey Yobo has joined the list of Everton players today coming out on the offensive in praise of the Blues. Joey first season in England went well for him and Everton, but after last season's debacle, Joey is insisting Everton have to fight to regain their pride. Great words, lets have a few performances to back them up. Come on you Blues. Joey says: "When I first came to Everton from Marseille, I found everyone very focused, working together and we had that confidence that comes from winning early games. We believed that when we went out there we were unbeatable and we finished seventh. Last season the pressure was on us, we knew it. That pressure to do better pulled us down and we did not give our best. At the start, this time last year, the atmosphere was very good because we knew what we had achieved, we'd done things like win six games in a row, but we struggled to win back-to-back games and then the pressure really mounted. The financial side is really frustrating because I want to be in a side that competes and two seasons ago we were competing. Last season I think is the worst season Everton have ever had. It was the worst season I have ever had wherever I have played. I always try to enjoy my football, but this was the worst season you could imagine and now with the squad we have everyone is looking at us as underdogs. We have to fight back and regain the Everton pride." (02/09/04) Joey is not just on a jolly in Houston. He and the rest of the team are working towards the first game of the season against Arsenal. Joey says: "Things are going well for us, and we are working extremely hard. We're not scared of Arsenal. We have many of the same players from two and three years ago. The atmosphere and team spirit is excellent." (29/07/04) |
