Mr. Versatile Steve Watson is pushing his claims with Moyesy to fill the gap of Alan Stubbs in the centre of defence, for the Premiership run in. Watto did his claims no harm at all with a solid display on Sunday, when coming on for the injured skipper. He has a fight on his hands with Joey Yobo for the skippers place. Ding, ding round one. Watto says: "I thoroughly enjoyed it. I played a part in helping keep a clean sheet - and that was extremely satisfying. We'll be back to somewhere near full strength, although I don't think that Stubbsy will make the game. I'd like to think, without pushing the Manager into a corner, that I could warrant another try as a central defender. However, Joseph Yobo is a quality player, an international captain in that position, so we'll have to wait and see. I'm just delighted to come in and help the team keep a clean sheet. To keep a clean sheet is all you can ask for as a defender and to do that against Andy Johnson, the top English scorer in the league, is something I’m happy with." (14/04/05) Watto is as fit as he has been for some time and hopes to play a big part in the closing stages of the season. Stevie says: "I'm raring to go. I've got 3 and a half reserve games under my belt and I feel really good. I've trained again this week with the lads and I feel as good as i have all season, so hopefully I'll be involved this week-end. We've had the disappointment of the derby defeat, but we have to move on now, It wasn't a pleasant experience, but we have to learn from it and make sure that we do well in the last eight games - well enough to stay were we are in the league."(01/04/05) Stevie Watto like most intelligent minded footballers, thinks there is still a long way to go in the race for fourth spot. Gauging the shite's reaction at the end of their victory on Sunday, it seems to them to be all done and dusted. Watto believes this will only spur our boys on in the final run in. Stevey tell the boys, one ex shit 'ed manager once said; 'We are ten games from greatness'. Fuck me enough said, as I believe they fucked it up that season aswell. Stevie Watto says: " I’d like to think I can play a big part in the final eight games. We’ve got eight games and we need to go full throttle on every one. We need to go out and play positive football and win as many games as we can - we’ve got some tough matches coming up. We’ve still got United and Arsenal to play and to be honest seeing how Liverpool were after the game on Sunday and their celebrations at the end make us want to get that fourth spot even more now." (24/03/05) Stevey Watto is delighted to get his first match action out of the way, in last nights rezzie defeat. Watto has has not played competitively since Boxing Day, will no doubt but a smile on Moyesy's face, as he strengthens his squad for the final push. Watto says: " It was a relief and the best I’ve felt in two months, two very long months in my eyes. There was a big worry in my mind that things might not go as well as they did. It was a big game for me. But personal thoughts aside, this is a big time for the team and a big time for the club. The manager needs everybody fit and ready to play and I still believe that I have a big part to play this season. I have to believe that and I have to believe that I can get back to full fitness. Last night was a big step in that direction. You can train and you can run all you want at Bellefield, but until you get into a match situation, where you’re involved in situations and doing things that you can’t control, you don’t know if you’re properly fit." (09/03/05) Steve Watson is hoping to start training in a couple of weeks after a frustrating period out with a stomach tear he picked on Boxing Day. He needs to start playing soon to try and win a new contact. Watto says: "My main thing is to get fit and get back in the team and then whatever happens from there will take care of itself. Obviously I'd like to stay but it's up to me now to get back into the team and force the issue. I've got to remain positive and hopefully at the end of the two weeks of doing nothing I'll be ready to start training again and then a week after that I'll hopefully be back involved." (15/02/05) Everton physio Basil Rathbone is worried that Steve Watson's injury is not healing as quick as he had hoped. Watto picked up the stomach problem against Shitteh on Boxing Day, and Basil had hoped he would be back training by now. Basil says: "Steve’s actually been out for five and a half weeks now and he’s not doing particularly well. That can be a problem when dealing with this type of condition. We did some light training today and he’s not really improving sufficiently. As everyone knows we’ve seen the hernia specialist and he’s content that everything is okay in that department, but we may have to listen to an orthopaedic viewpoint and see what we can do from there." (03/02/05) Stevey Watto just needs some tender, loving care off Mrs Watto according to top physio and part time detective Basil Rathbone. Watto was taken to see the specialist that operated on his hernia eighteen months ago, but was given the news that another operation isn't necessary. It will be a timely boost for Moyesy as long term injuries is the last thing he needs right now. Super Sleuth Turned Physio, Basil says: As everyone knows Steve injured a muscle in his stomach and it’s settled somewhat but not to everybody’s satisfaction. We took him to Manchester yesterday to see the specialist who operated on him 14 months ago. He’s happy that he doesn’t require any more surgery and he’s just ordered a little bit more rest really." (19/01/05) Steve Watson's fight back from injury is not going as planned according to physio, turned super sleuth Basil Rathbone. Watto who strained his stomach muscles against Shittteeeh on Boxing Day is worrying Basil enough for the part time detective to send him off to see a specialist over the problem. Basil says: "Steve strained some stomach muscles during the game against Manchester City and it’s fair to say that it’s not going great, it’s not settled down too well. The dreaded word ‘hernia’ has started to spring to mind, a problem he had 14 months ago. It’s had enough time to settle now I think and it’s maybe time to move on to the next level. If he’s not really pushing on in the next three or four days then we’ll have to have him checked out again in Manchester. He only had the procedure done 14 months ago and we’re loathe to do anything just yet." (12/01/05) Stevie Watson is ready if and when required over the busy Crimbo period. He insists that anyone of the lads who haven't played much this season will be chomping at the bit to play. Stevie says:"The lads, like myself, who have been involved in every game in some way but who haven't started for a while could well get a chance. I haven't started a game for probably about five or six weeks. And people like Gary Naysmith, Faddy, big Dunc, Joseph have all been there or thereabouts without playing too much football. We are all eager and ready to come in if the manager decides to change things."(23/12/04) Watto is confident that Everton will bounce back to winning ways after a draw and 2 defeats in a row. This is just an observation, but haven't we lost those games while Harry Hill has been missing and Stevie Watto has deputised. Stevie says: "We have had a lot of good things written about us this year, but we must take all the criticism that is thrown at us as well. The Arsenal game was probably the first chance anybody has had to have a go at us this season, but we are very strong. We were written off in the summer, written off after the first game of the season and this result may give people ammunition to say the bubble has burst. But we know that it definitely has not." (11/11/04) Stevie Watto is staking his claim for Harry Hill's place in the line up today against Villa. Harry who was sent off for booting a Preston defender up the jacksie, has been playing superbly well this season. Watto along with Joey will be competing to fill the void left by the defensive midfielder. Watto who came on as a sub against Norwich last week, set up the winning goal for the Big Man. Watto says: "I think Cars has been absolutely magnificent this season. He’s done a wonderfully disciplined job in front of the back four and kept the team together really. He’s allowed other people to go forward and get goals - and chipped in with a couple too. He’s the only one who has played that defensive-midfield role so far, but I could play in that position, you could put Tim in that position, or even change the system round. Anyone who has come into the team has done a great job and hopefully that will continue. I’m very disappointed that I’m not playing at the moment. I came on against Norwich and hopefully reminded the gaffer that I am available when he needs me. I am ready to play in any position, if I am selected. I enjoy playing all across the middle of the park, even in defence, or upfront if pushed! I have been waiting to try and get in the team and prove my point and hopefully it will come sooner rather than later. If it happens this weekend against Villa, that would be great." (30/10/04) Tim Cahill's midfield partner Stevey Watto, has claimed Timbo's sending off at Shittteeeehhh on Saturday, was nothing short of trivial. Watto was angry that it could have cost us the game, but was delighted with the battling performance of his team mates in defending the lead against the Shittteeeehhh onslaught. Watto says: "In my opinion to be sent off for celebrating a goal is ridiculous and it has cost us because it left us with ten men. It wasn’t pretty after Tim went off but it was about getting a result and we needed to dig in as a team and I thought we coped with that well. But Tim will obviously be fuming because he played very well during the game, scored a great goal and to be sent off for something like that is so trivial. I thought we played well. We knew it was going to be tough hence the results we have had here recently. But we were determined not to let ourselves down again at this stadium and we didn’t do that. We pulled together as a team, played a similar type of system as we did across the city at Manchester United. We knew we would get chances and probably the script was written for David James to pull off three world class saves. We felt aggrieved slightly not to be in the lead at half-time but we always felt that there was something in the game for us." (13/09/04) Stevie was happy he got 2 of the goals at Sheffield Wednesday, but said it could have been more. "There’s
one more competitive game to go before the start of the season - it’s
everybody’s aim to be in the starting eleven and I’m no different. I think
the plan today was to share the football time around, because, with the
week we’ve had, 90 minutes would have been a lot for anybody. Stevie Watson will miss the first friendly in Texas after having an operation on an in-growing toenail Bazza
Rathbone says "Steve has had a minor operation on his big
toe. We went to a medical centre in Houston which is apparently one of
the best in the USA and we saw one of the best foot specialists in the
entire country so we were in good hands. He treats the Houston Texans
players. He won't make Thursday's game but we are hoping he will be alright
for Sunday."(27/07/04) |
