He started the season as third choice keeper, but Iain Turner will wend up as Everton's first choice this Sunday against West Brom. With injuries to Nige and Dickie, Iain has once again a point to prove, and maybe save Moyesy some serious mullah this Summer. Moyesy says: "My idea would probably have been to give Iain a start in the last game of the season anyway but with Richard's injury, it has been brought upon us. I would be surprised if Wrighty is fit because he has got a bad gash on his knee and obviously with a goalkeeper diving around, it could open up again. I wouldn't expect him to be fit. But we have got a lot of faith in Iain and we think he could go on to become a good goalkeeper." (02/05/06) While on his hospital bed, Nige has praised Iain for his performance against Chelsea. Big Nige says: "He did very well. He had a couple of difficult things to deal with early on and he coped really well with them. You certainly couldn't blame him for any of the goals so he had to be pleased with his performance." (17/02/06) Iain Turner has said that the ref had no option but to send him off, after the most bizzarest of debut's in Premiership history. Iain was red carded by Les Battersby after only nine minutes, when he handled the ball outside the box. Unfortunately the wrong man was sent off, as the ref continued to be a pain in the arse all afternoon, and should have been red carded himself, for probably the most atrocious performance Goodison has seen since Glen Keeley's debut. Iain says: "That is the rule, you handle outside the box, you are going to get a straight red. It was some debut anyway! I just realised I was out of the box and I couldn't pull my hand away quick enough. It is one of those things. There was a bit of a lack of communication on both parts. Probably with more games there will be more understanding, so in a couple of games time that probably wouldn't happen, so you just learn from these things. You learn from your mistakes and hopefully don't make them again. It is only a one game suspension, but it is still too long for me. The boys have been supportive, as they always are, but it is not what you want on your debut, ten minutes in. John did brilliantly to be fair to him. It was a great save in the second half, and for a debut he did well, especially when you have only got nine men in front of you. It was an interesting game, I am made up for the boys, they dug deep and it was a superb performance. I just wish I was had been on the pitch to see it." (14/02/06) Moyesy is hoping Iain will gain from this experience and now is contemplating a loan deal. Moyesy says: "The thing about goalkeepers is the decision making. They can be as good as you like and the decision making is the big thing, and that is why young goalkeepers need the games to make their decisions. When the ball is coming over the back four should you come should you stay? As I said it is only with experience that you get better at these things. "We will ask to see whether we can take a goalkeeper on loan. We have two injured - Nigel Martyn and Richard Wright and now another one red-carded. We will try to get a 'keeper in on loan. We've got two weeks without a game, but it might be too quick for Nigel Martyn. I can't see him being fit for that." (12/02/06) Turns got his chance sooner than expected when Dickie Wright injured his ankle in the warm up at Chelsea. The young keeper only had minutes to prepare and then it was straight on to the game. He did well despite letting in 4. He wasn't to blame for any goal. Moyesy says: “He did really well and we have a lot of faith in him. As a goalkeeper you don’t want to lose and you don’t want to lose 4-1 but I hope the boy will gain a lot of confidence from it. It has left us a bit short but that’s what football does, young boys get their chances so hopefully he will be able to take it.” (09/02/06) Turns is hoping for a first team chance soon. Iain says: "Hopefully I will get a chance but Wrighty has come in and done well. You don't want to wish injuries on anyone, but there is a busy period of games coming up and I am ready if a chance arises." (22/12/05) Iain Turner has been recalled from his loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers due to the injury to Everton keeper Nigel Martyn. If Nige fails to win his fitness battle ahead of Sundays clash against man ure, Dickie will fill in between the sticks, with Iain keeping the bench warm. Iain has been in fine form down at Wycombe, and in turn he has helped them keep their unbeaten start to the season. (05/12/05) Wycombe Wanderers have reportedly took young Everton keeper Iain Turner on a months loan deal. The Scottish Under 21 keeper has joined Wycombe as the Second Division outfit sit in second place in the League, and he will hope his spell shows Moyesy that he may be ready for the step up to the big boys once Nige packs in. (09/11/05) Iain has hard competition at Goodison with Martyn, Wright and Ruddy to contend with and this weekend he has the same now at Scotland Under 21 level with Motherwell’s Graeme Smith and Raith Rovers’ Ally Brown. Ian says: "I'm still waiting at Everton because Nigel Martyn and Richard Wright are both good keepers and both doing really well. 'm reasonably confident I'll play but the problem is at the moment I know both Graeme and Ally have been playing regular first-team football. I did start the last game and I thought I did reasonably well and kept a clean sheet, which does help. The next few years are going to be tough because there's some good young goalkeepers coming up so you've just got to keep playing well and playing regularly. Goal keeping is about taking your chance. There's a lot of good young Scottish goalkeepers around just now. Every game you go out you play to win and try to do your best every time and if you do, you've got a chance. It usually takes and injury or something to get in and once you get that chance you've got to take it and Craig's (Craig Gordon, Hearts - the current full number one) done that at both club and country." (07/10/05) Everton's young Scottish keeper Iain Turner has missed his Country's visit to Austria as he has been left holding the baby. The young keeper would have been due to play for Scotland's U21's tonight, but unfortunately his girlfriend sustained a broken arm, and they cannot find a baby sitter. I jest you not, this is not April 1st, and I am not auditioning to be a script writer on Footballers Wives, but fair play to Iain in putting his family first. My missus will remind me of this one, every time I want to go in the lash. Rainer Bonhof (Scotlands U21 Coach) says: "Iain Turner is off because his girlfriend has a broken arm and they have a five-month-old baby. Their parents are not there so he has put his family first." (16/08/05) Signed Till 2009 Iain has signed a new deal that ties him to the club till the Summer of 2009. The 21 yr old put pen to paper today, and Moyesy will be delighted to sign up, the Scottish U21 No.1. Me thinks Iain will get his chance this season, with Wrighty on his way before too long, as Moyesy looks to the future. Iain says: "I have signed a three year extension to my contract. It is great to be offered a new contract by any club. But when it is a club the size of Everton with such a great fanbase it is good. Hopefully I can come into the first team and do a job. My ambition is to be Everton and Scotland’s number one. But with keepers it is about trying to get your chance." (22/06/05) Iain misses the Scotland U21 game with a great excuse, he's having laser treatment on his eyes. He usually wears contact lenses. Scottish coach Rainer Bonhof says: "Iain has the chance to throw the speccies away. And I believe that if you are a goalkeeper and use lenses during night matches it is not so easy to see the ball under the floodlights. It is also the same playing under bright sunshine, so without that it will hopefully be easier. In Germany, my former goalkeeper Eike Immel had laser treatment and his job was easier afterwards. He was about 26 when he had it and that was when this sort of surgery first came out 15 or so years ago. Now it is much easier I understand."
