39. Laurence Wilson

Loan Deal Extended

Wilo will stay at Mansfield until the end of the season, giving him more time to play games and get more experience, and he's 'made up.'

Wilo says: "I am made up. They asked me if I wanted to stay to the end of the season and help the team stay in this league. Hopefully we can finish in the top half of the table. Playing here is going to make me a better player. It is a much tougher game at this level. I have realised I need to be a bit more physical down here, though we do play some good football as well. Playing is this league is making me a lot sharper and tougher. Apparently Everton have had some good reports on me so that can only be good for me."

Mansfield boss Peter Shirtliff says: "I am pleased to sign Laurence for another two months. He has done well for us. I thought he played particularly well at Torquay and also made a good contribution at Notts County." (20/03/06)

Wilo Scores

Wilo scored in Mansfield's 2-2 drew with Notts County. It was his fifth appearance for the Stags.

Wilo says: "The ball came to me and I just thought 'I can't miss', and luckily I scored. It was a good buzz for me, but I really didn't know what to do when it went in" (06/03/06)

Out To Impress

Wilo is due to make his debut for Mansfield tomorrow when the Stags play Wycombe. He is looking forward to getting a few games and impressing Moyesy.

Wilo says: "The deal has been finalised and I am looking forward to getting out there and playing for Mansfield. This is the first time I have been out on loan and it is quite a strange feeling to be wearing another team's kit. The most important thing is that I have the chance of playing first team football which will hopefully make me a better player. I understand that David Moyes at Everton thinks a lot of me so I guess that is why he has let me out on loan, so I gain as much experience as possible." (10/02/06)

Loan To Mansfield

Mansfield have taken Laurence on loan. (31/01/06)

Off To Bristol

Laurence has joined Bristol City for a trial period. Robins boss Gary Johnson has taken the opportunity to look at the Everton youngster. (25/01/06)

First Professional Contract

Laurence says: “I’ve been working towards this since I first came to Everton at the age of 11. I’m very happy to sign. It’s a lot faster and a lot harder. You play against first team players at times but it’s all good experience. It does help because you know how they play. We’ve played together through the age-groups up to the Under-18s and now the reserves. Andy Holden has been a big help to me and so have Neil Dewsnip and Gary Ablett. My aim from here is to establish myself in the reserve team and then, hopefully, in a couple of years play for the first team and sign a new contract.”
