After playing in just two games, Sander has returned to Portsmouth leaving Dickie Wright the only fit senior goalie with Big Nige out for the season. Well played Sander! (20/03/06) Sander played his first game for Everton in the 2-0 defeat against Newcastle. He did well, looking confident. He made one fantastic save, and couldn't be faulted for their goals. Moyesy thought so too! Moyesy says: "Apart from one save in the first half, Sander didn't have an awful lot to do." (28/02/06) Everton new boy Sander Westerveld is aiming to win the Blues's fans over with some match winning performances, after his horrific past was revealed. It appears that Sander used to play in his former life with shite, a memory he is keen to forget about. He knocked round in a district known as Analfield, a nice enough part of Merseyside, but with one glaring eyesore of a footy ground, that blighted the district. Sander is keen to forget those dark days when he was put upon by a Garlic smelling French man, who used to refer to him as 'one of his plyers'. Although all of the other plyers were tools, Sander objected, and in his good fortune was sent packing from the club. He has committed himself to winning the Blue fans over, and erasing forever those dark memories, and there will be no better place to start than with three points against the Skunks tomorrow. Don't worry Sander you are not in Nick Barmby territory here, then you would be in trouble. Sander says: "I know how passionate the fans are in this city. I always said that I liked the derbies the most, the fans are unbelievable in those games and I like to play at Goodison as well. I don't know if this move is going to be a strange one for the fans but I didn't hesitate for one minute when the manager phoned me. It is football and you have to think about yourself sometimes, and not think about emotions or difficult situations. I have been a red (shit 'ed) and now I am a blue, all I can do is do my best and hopefully the fans will back me up. I am really excited. I haven't been playing for a couple of weeks and I had a difficult time at Portsmouth. This is an opportunity for me and I am hoping to help the team. And I hope they help me and it will all be very positive. The move happened quickly. I was on my way to the Chelsea v Barcelona game on Wednesday and they phoned me just before so I went straight home. I was really excited and the gaffer called me and asked me to play for Everton. I said 'yes' immediately without thinking and now hopefully I am playing on Saturday and can take it from there. I played three games in January (for Portsmouth) and this is obviously a chance to put myself in the shop window again. Hopefully we will get good results and take it from there. I hope to play as many games as possible and then look forward to next season. I am looking forward to joining a team that is doing well. When you are at a team at the bottom, everything is really difficult; difficult games, difficult situation. There is the pressure as well. I have played with Andy (van der Meyde) for the national team. I know him and I also know Mikel Arteta from Sociedad and that helps. I know the other players from playing against them, and that is where experience comes in. I have been playing for 12 years so it is not difficult to just adapt to the team." (24/02/06) Everton new boy Sander Westerveld will definitely start against the Skunks on Saturday. Moyesy today confirmed that the ex shite player will get the nod ahead of rookie John Ruddy who performed so admirably in Everton's last outing against Blackburn. Moyesy says: " He has played in the Premiership before, so knows what it is all about - but he won't have any time to settle because he will make his debut against Newcastle. It is no reflection on John that I have brought Sander in. John has great potential and did very well when he made his debut. He has got all the attributes to be a top keeper. But we just needed someone with that bit of experience to come here and Sander has been a Dutch international. We just thought it would be good for John to watch from the bench." (23/02/06) Everton have signed a goalie who can't fight. Sander (nob 'ed) to his mates, has signed for a month from Portsmouth where he is 3rd choice. The 31 year old Dutch International has been around the block playing for FC Twente, Vitesse Arnhem, redshite, Real Majorque, and Portsmouth. He took part in a you push me and I'll nudge you back thingy with Jugears Jeffers in the Derby game and they walked. (22/02/06) |
