Still bubbling from scoring his first senior goal for Everton and being voted reserve player of the season, Vic is thanking everyone, but especially Any Holden. Vic says: "Taff (Andy Holden) told Mikel (Arteta) before the game that if I get on, I like to get the ball into my feet to pin the defender and then turn him. That is what happened. It came from the training ground because we work on that a lot. I would like to thank Taff for working with me all through the year. When the ball went in it was a class moment. I didn't know whether to celebrate or to go and get the ball because we were still 2-1 down. I celebrated a bit but then the gaffer was urging us back to get the second goal. The fans are good with me, they encourage me and that helps a lot. It has been a good season, getting Reserve Player of the Season and then getting the goal. It was a class." (16/05/06) Vic scored his first goal for the first team against WBA on Saturday and although he was only on for a short time, you could see that he looks a good player. Mikel Arteta certainly did. Mikky says: "I think he can become a very important player. He's still young but he was one of the players who changed the game for us. Taffy (Andy Holden) told me before the game that if he came on, I should pass the ball to his feet. That's what I tried to do. I think he has been amazing. Two or three times he looked like he was going to score. He scored one and he can only improve. He's in a terrific situation. He's shown us some very good things. We need strikers to score goals and if he can do it, then it will be even better because he is from here and we won't have to spend any money. But it is different playing just one game to all the season. He needs to do it all the time." (10/05/06) 17 year old Vic has signed a 2 year contract with Everton. It will keep him here until June, 2008. The young centre forward thanked reserve team coach Andy Holden and wants to follow James Vaughan into the first team. Vic says: "The two year deal is really good. I just want to thank the club for giving me this chance and for giving me the opportunity to repay their faith in me. I want to repay the club and during the two years hopefully I will do the business. I would like to get into the first team squad on a more regular basis. It has been a good season for me. I have been on the bench a few times and got on against Chelsea. I would like to build on that next season and get a few goals as well. It would be great to score for the first team. I would like to thank Taff. He has helped me a lot and if it weren't for him I don't think I would be in this position. He is a big influence. He keeps me behind in training and does extra work with me. He always tells me when I am doing right or wrong - he always gives me the truth. That is a big help. Vaughany has been a good influence. I have seen him step up into the first team and I have thought to myself, I want to do that as well. He has been a big influence but it is unfortunate he has been injured this year so we have not had the chance to play together that much. I have been doing pretty well in the last few weeks. I always seem to do alright at the end of the season. It does help training with the first team because it gives you confidence and their advice is a big help." (02/04/06) Reserve hot shot Victor Anichebe has made a promise to himself of opting for his country of birth above England if he was picked for International recognition. The Nigerian born, English raised forward would love to follow in team mates Joey Yobo's footsteps and one day run out for his country. Victor says: " I would want to represent Nigeria because that is where I'm from. I go back every year for Christmas and have a lot of family there. We moved to England when I was just one year old, but I still feel Nigerian." (23/02/06) Vic came on with only 2 minutes of normal time to make his senior debut for the FA Cup tie with Chelski. (29/01/06) Brace For Vic Vic scored a brace for the rezzies against Newcastle last night. Andy Holden says: "He took his goals very well, I was pleased with both of them. More so the first one because that’s what we’ve been working on in training - turning defenders and getting shots in. He’s only 17-years old and he’s scored two goals for us on the night, which is great." (24/01/06) |
