Weir On His Way To Rangers

Everton's club captain should be a Rangers player by the end of the week. It looks like he will join up with former Everton boss, Walter Smith.

Weir's agent Dave Lockwood says: "It would be fair to say his choice would be Ibrox. Everton reluctantly agreed that if David wants to go and play regular football then he can leave and continue his career elsewhere. Walter has spoken to David and David has spoken to David Moyes and we hope to speak to them later on Monday, but, if it works out, he will be going to Rangers."

Back In The Mix

These Scots are made of stern stuff, as it looks like Davey Weir has been given the all clear, and is even in contention for the visit of Arsenal on Wednesday evening. Davey who was K.Od' in the last round of The Carling Cup, was given a rapturous reception by the travelling Blues fans at Fulham on Saturday, and according to Basil Rathbone, all the scans Davey underwent have revealed nothing, I mean no damage, not like nothing there, you get my drift !!

Basil says: "The CT scan was completely clear; he has been absolutely fine. He never even had a headache afterwards. He has done some light training this week and as a matter of routine we are going to MR scan him. If the consultant is happy with that then he is available for selection." (07/11/06)

Out For Three Weeks

Skipper Davie Weir spent five minutes out cold on the pitch in the game against Luton after a clash of heads. He will be missing for about 3 weeks.

Alan Irvine says: "Our physio says he had regained consciousness before he reached the dressing room but he was taken to hospital by ambulance and will be detained overnight for tests. It was a complete accident. A case of two players going for the ball and unfortunately David came off worst. It looked very bad from the dugout and naturally we are very concerned about any head injuries. We are not expecting any more bad news but our doctor says David will not be able to play for another three weeks."

Mick Rathbone says: "David Weir has undergone x-rays and they were all clear. He will be kept in hospital overnight for observation and we will have another look at him in the morning." (24/10/06)

Marshall Weir

Moyesy was sitting in the stands at Hampden Park to watch Scotland beat France 1-0 on Saturday and was full of praise for his Club captain.

Moyesy says: "Davie Weir was absolutely superb. He marshalled the team very well and used all his experience to help those around him. He can be very proud of that performance." (10/10/06)

Its A Funny Old Game

It certainly is a funny old game for Davey Weir. Four years ago Davey was humiliated by then Scottish Boss Berti McVogts after the Scots were held to an embarrassing draw against the Faroe Islands. After scathing comments over the older players performances that day, Davey threw his International cap out of the ring. After Bert's own demise, Davey dusted his cap down, and today finds himself captaining the Scots, and guess who against, yes Bolivia, no silly the Faroe's Islands. Davey will hope to erase the memory of that day with a convincing win for his country.

Davey says: "Obviously after that Faroes game I never believed I would be captaining the side against them again. But football is really funny and you never know what can happen. That's why we love it so much. You can never close any doors and it makes you realise that things change so quickly and surprise everybody." (02/09/06)

Carry On Skipper

Moyesy has today confirmed that Davey Weir will carry on as Club Skipper for this coming season. Davey who extended his stay at the Blues in the Summer will carry with the armband, although he will not be guaranteed a place in the starting line up as along with himself, Stubbsey, Roger, Joey and Yosser will all be competing for the two centre half berths. Phil Neville was expected in some quarters to take over from Davey, and he is named as the Clubs vice Captain, but Moyesy has stayed loyal to the experienced centre half in what looks likely to be his final season with the Blues

Moyesy says: "Davie Weir will continue as skipper and Phil will help him. We've also got Stubbsy if he's needed, so they are the people we would be looking towards. " (14/08/06)

Fighting For Places

With Everton having 5 centre backs to choose from, Davie is prepared to fight for his place. Lescott, Hughes, Stubbs and Yobo will all be hoping to get in the team ahead of Davie.

Davie says: "I have spoken to the manager and I know I may not be in the starting XI when the season kicks off. But I still feel that I have plenty to offer and I will be fighting for selection just like everyone else. If I thought I wasn't going to be involved then I wouldn't have put pen to paper." Back To Bellefield

Davie Weir met some of his new team mates today, when most of the first team squad reported back for pre-season training. Andy Johnson and Joleon Lescott arrived early at Bellefield, but fellow new signing Tim Howard was missing due to his involvement with the USA World Cup Squad. He was given extra time to rest along with Australia's Tim Cahill and Portugal's Nuno Valente. The way Nuno is going he may just make it back for the first game of the season.

Davie says: "This is a massive season for us. We had a bad start to last year and gradually got it back on track after the good season the year before. It would have been nice to have had a couple of really good seasons in a row and it is up to us now to address this season, push on and push upwards.

We have got some good players coming in. Hopefully Andrew Johnson will get us a few goals and along with Beats they can get a good pre-season behind them and can make a difference for us.That is an opportunity for us to push on." (03/07/06)

Davie Signs

Davie has finally signed his one year contract with Everton. With offers from West Brom and Birmingham supposed to be longer and for more money, it's nice that Davie's heart made his mind up to stay. What we want to know is does he get it back dated to 1st June or is it from 1st July?

Davie says: "Competition is good for everyone. Centre-halves have arrived at the club in the past and it's my job to try and get into the team. Most players who have left Everton have regretted it and although I had other options, this club was always going to be the winner. The players are a great bunch of lads and the staff are great as well and that makes a big difference." (29/06/06)
