13. Iain Turner - 06/07

I'm Staying To

Iain Turner has joined Big Vic and Vaughny in committing himself to the Blues till 2011. Turns has signed a two year extension to his original deal, and he is hoping in that time to put pressure on Tim Howard and establish himself as Everton's No.1. That's the spirit !!

Turns says: "It has been a not bad couple of weeks it has to be said. Luckily I was given a chance to go over and play at Wednesday. It is a big club and we had some big games and I thought I did well. I did enjoy my spell there and first team football is great but Everton is a very big club, they have offered me this contract and it is my ambition to become the number one here. Tim has been phenomenal this year and he deserves the number one spot but I intend to be fighting for it.

I have signed a two year extension to the two years I had left on my contract and I would like to think that in four years time I will be playing week in, week out. I had a good experience with Wednesday but it is here that I want to make my mark and I am looking forward to doing that." (03/05/07)

Back At Goodison

Iain now back at Goodison to prepare for the game against manure. With Tim Howard out of the game due to a clause in his contract preventing him from playing against his former club, Turns will fight it out with Dickie Wright for the green/yellow/black/sky blue shirt. (22/04/07)

First Team Football

Turns who is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday would love to stay at the Owls as it would mean first team football for him in the future. Unfortunately for the Scottish Keeper Moyesy has other plans, and that is number two to Tim Howard next term, so the young keeper will have to return to Goodison in the Summer. You can check out how Iain is doing for his on loan club, when the Owls take on West Brom in tonight's Sky Live offering.

Turns says: "I would consider anything next season as long as I am playing first-team football next season and if I get a chance here I would love it but I am under contract at Everton so we will see what happens there. I have really enjoyed it here. When I first came, the boys made it easy for me to settle in and I have enjoyed playing my football here." (13/04/07)

Back To The Blues

Iain Turner will be an Everton player in the future, and not Sheffield Wednesdays new goalkeeper after Moyesy told the Yorkshire men that he will be returning to Goodison at the end of the season. Wednesday had harboured hopes that Turner would become their keeper full time, but with Dickie Wright on his way out of Goodison in the Summer, Moyesy see's Iain as an able deputy to Tim in the Everton sticks.

Moyesy says: "Iain is on loan and will return here at the end of the season. We are very pleased with the reports on him. He won't be going anywhere, and Sheffield Wednesday know that." (02/04/07)

I'm Staying Put

As predicted, Iain Turner is staying at Sheffield Wednesday for another month, and barring any major goalkeeping crisis at Goodison, the keeper will see the season out at Hillsbrough. Sheff Wed remain unbeaten whilst Turns has been in the sticks, and Manager Brian Laws is delighted that Everton have given the green light for the keeper to stay on another month.

Brian Laws says: "I'm delighted to take Iain Turner for another month, he has been exceptionally good for us in his time here and the move has been good for both parties." (22/03/07)

Loan Extension

Iain Turner who has been earning rave reviews at Sheffield Wednesday whilst on loan may stay till the end of the season. The Scottish youngster who was called up to the Full Scotland Squad yesterday is keen to stay on and carry on earning some valuable first team experience. With Dickie undoubtedly on the move away from Goodison in the Summer, Turns will be pushing Tim Howard for the coveted Everton No.1 jersey from next season.

Turns says: I'm loving it here. I'm playing first-team football at a very good standard at a very good club. They're already talking about extending the loan; I want to be playing first-team football; I'd love to stay."

Wednesday Boss Brian Laws says: "Iain's loan runs out in about 10 days' time. We're already speaking to Everton about extending that. We're confident that it will go through." (15/03/07)

Outstanding Saves

Turner had a stormer once again for Sheffield Wednesday in a 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers. He made to outstanding saves to keep the Owls in the game. (11/03/07)

Winning Start

Turns started his Sheffield Wednesday loan deal with a win. Wednesday won 3-2 against Southend. (25/02/07)

Owl Be There

Iain Turner is on his travels again, this time to Sheffield Wednesday on a months loan. Turns has had Tim Howard to deal with this season, so to gain regular first team footy, loans deals have been his only option, and he is delighted to be at Wednesday for the next month.

Turns says: "I have been wanting to go on loan and the gaffer came in and said Sheffield Wednesday were after me - I was delighted. This is a big club and I'm relishing the chance of playing in front of the fans. I'm here for a month and hopefully I'll have a chance to impress. The objective is six clean sheets! You can't beat playing first team football and my chances have been limited, hopefully I can do a good job for Wednesday."

Owls Boss Brian Laws says: "We are pleased to have signed Iain Turner on loan from Everton. He has played regularly for Scotland's under 21s and therefore comes to us with a degree of pedigree." (24/02/07)

Groin Injury Spoils Loan Deal

Turns injured his groin and was replaced in the 1st half of Palace's game with Colchester, but manager Peter Taylor still wants to keep hold of the Everton keeper.

Taylor says: "He may be out for a week or two weeks, so we're still looking to keep him on." (11/12/06)

Happy To Play

Iain played his first game for Palace on Saturday. A 2-0 win. Turns was happy with the clean sheet, but just wants to play.

Turns says: "You can train all you want, but it's match practice which counts. Hopefully that's what I'll get here - I want to improve as a goalkeeper, and I'll try to help Crystal Palace too. The more games I play, the better I'll get. All I want is to play regular football, and at Everton I'm not getting that at the moment. Tim Howard's playing really well and Richard Wright's also an experienced keeper, so it's tough.

The boys always looked in control of the game and they played well today. We fully deserved the win. It was a quiet afternoon for me, but that shows the boys in front of me all did their jobs. Palace are a big team, and they're only going to get bigger. So I jumped at the chance to move down here. At the moment the loan's for a month, and there's an option to extend it after that. If everything goes well, I'd be more than happy to stay here longer." (23/11/06)

Off To The Palace

Iain Turner has joined Crystal Palace on loan till mid December. Moyesy who has Dickie Wright to back up Tim Howard in the Everton sticks, see Iain's loan period as a way of gaining much needed League experience. The Eagles are in a bad run of form at present having only drawn two of their last eight matches, with six defeats, so if its action Iain has gone for, it seems he has picked the right club (16/11/06)

Chance Of A Start

Everton are thinking of playing Turns in the Carling Cup game against Luton tomorrow. With Tim Howard still under the weather, it maybe the ideal opportunity to give Iain a start in goal.

Moyesy says: "We'll have to see how everybody is after training today. But we'd like to give Iain some more experience if we can. But the most important thing is to make sure we progress in the Cup." (23/10/06)

Aim For Number 1

With Nigel Martyn retired, Turns thinks it's time to stake his claim as number 1 keeper at Everton, even with Moyesy bringing in Tim Howard. He's even started back training.

Turns says: I can't wait for the new season. I want to push for the number one spot this season and see what happens. You expect the manager to make signings. I have had a few games though and I think I did alright and like I said hopefully I
can push on and maybe even get Tim Howard out of there!

We are getting close to being back for pre-season and I still had a few little niggles in my knees so I was just in getting
a bit of treatment, and trying strengthen my legs up a bit and get ready for next season. In the first few weeks of the holidays you do relax. Then, after a couple of weeks you miss the game and you want to get back and it is easy enough to start doing some jogging and running. It's not difficult to motivate yourself, there's usually a few of the boys around so you are training with someone." (24/06/06)
