36. Paddy Boyle - 06/07

Slow Road Back

Paddy has had another scan and the results say he's on the mend, but it's a slow process.

Paddy says: "I had a scan the other day so I came down to Bellefield for the results and everything is looking better. Hopefully, fingers crossed, it won't be too long. I've got to see the specialist on Tuesday and hopefully he will say things are progressing the way he wants. I spoke to Baz and he's told me after I see the specialist that I'll be in Monday to Sunday every week until the end of the season. I'm scared to set any dates. I just want to try and get fit before the end of the season and get a couple of games if I can." (31/01/07)

Out For Yonks

Baz says: "Paddy has got a stress fracture of his back which is going to keep him out for a significant period of time. He will see a specialist on Friday and he will confirm he will be out for a long period of time. That is very unfortunate for the lad. There is a particular area at the base of the spine that is prone to this kind of injury. It is becoming increasingly common in fast bowlers, javelin throwers and football players. The way Paddy's spine curves lower down means he is pre-dispossed to it and now he has got to get on with it." (01/11/06)

Back Home

Paddy is back from his loan spell at Norwich nursing a sore back. He played in 3 defeats for Norwich, which led to manager Nigel Worthington getting the sack. Paddy missed out on a game against Birmingham on Tuesday due to injury. His back injury is not thought to be serious. (18/10/06)

Debut For Norwich

Paddy made a surprise debut when Norwich captain, Drury was injured before the game and Boyle got 90 minutes.

Paddy says: "Yes, I wasn't named when the team was picked on Thursday, but then on the morning of the game the captain, Adam Drury, woke up with a swollen ankle and I was brought in. I was excited at the prospect of making my debut but I must admit I was a bit nervous too! The nerves just went as soon as the game started and I enjoyed it. I managed to get forward quite a bit in the first half but then Palace got stronger in the second. We have a Carling Cup tie at Rotherham in midweek but I am ineligible to play in that so I just hope I can play some part at Plymouth next week. It would be nice to play against Nick Chadwick, who is a pal of mine from his Everton days." (17/09/06)

Happy Canary

Paddy's looking on the bright side and thinks getting a few games in the Championship will be a bonus.

Paddy says: "I am very happy to come down here, it is a good opportunity to try and develop myself and get some first team games under my belt. At Everton I have not had many games so when Norwich came in the idea was to come down and try to get some games. I have been on the bench for Everton and played some pre-season games but coming down here and playing in the Championship will stand me in good stead." (16/09/06)

Norfolk Broads For A Month

With Gary Naysmith holding down the left back place and the return to fitness of Nuno Valente and Sandro Pistone, Moyesy has let Paddy go to Norwich to gain some valuable first team experience. With the rezzies not playing for a while, Paddy may play his first game in the Championship against Crystal Palace at Carrow Road on Saturday. (14/09/06)

World Cup Rubs Off On Paddy

Alan Irvine was full of praise for Paddy after he put in a great performance at Bury yesterday.

Alan says: "I asked Paddy what he thought of the full backs at the World Cup. The likes of Zambrotta and Grosso for Italy, who were both prepared to get forward, as Roberto Carlos and Cafu had played over the years for Brazil. I said to him that I thought that was a thing he was capable of doing. But he had to believe that he was capable of doing it and be prepared to work hard enough to do it. I think that the run he made in the last few minutes of the game, which showed that he has taken that on board. I was delighted with what Paddy did. I thought he could cope with this level of football and he showed that he could today." (16/07/06)

First Season

Paddy is in the 1st team squad for the first time. He is a left back, but has played in midfield and centre half. He is a member of the Scotland under 19 squad. (08/07/06)
