Since signing in January, Tony has been training with head physio Mick Rathbone and is now ready to join the first team squad. Basil says: "I watched Anthony do his first training session on Friday. Anthony had an operation in early January after he injured his ankle in the Uefa Cup against Getafe in October so he's not played much football. I've had him training with me over the past couple of weeks. He's training great, he's done all that we've asked of him and he seems to be really enjoying it." (28/02/08) Without playing a game and still injured, Tony is talking about a permanent move to Everton from Spurs. Anthony says: “I am not sure what is going to happen. Everton are doing very well at the moment pushing for a Champions League spot and playing some good football, so if it was to turn out to be a move, it would be good for me.” (19/02/08) Everton's latest addition is ready to step in to the heart of the Everton defence when asked, but not until he's fit. Anthony says: "I'm just looking forward to working with the boys and getting out on the football field and showing what I can do. Hopefully I can contribute to what Everton are trying to do this year. It's unfortunate that I won't be able to be involved in the Uefa Cup because I'm cup tied from the earlier round with Spurs. But hopefully I can get some minutes on the pitch and show the fans what I can do because Everton are in a very strong position at the minute. They're trying to push on to the Champions League so if I can help that in any way with my abilities, then I will be more than happy. I think I'm about 10 days away from playing. There's just something that I need to clear up and then I will see if I can get myself into contention and hopefully if I get a chance to play I can show fans what I can do. I spoke to the manager briefly and I know that the Club is doing very well at the moment. There are defenders here and there's a strong squad but I think he feels that I can add to that squad. If the chance comes along and he needs someone to step in - I will be more than capable of doing that. I'll be happy to play wherever I'm asked. I can guarantee that I'll be doing my best and I'll be trying to make the team get the results that are needed to get up the league or to cement the position they're in at the moment." (07/02/08) On Loan Until End Of Season Moyesy kept this one quiet, but Spurs defender cum midfielder Anthony Gardener has signed in at the Blues on loan till the end of the season. He signed for Spurs back in 2000 from Port Vale, and his only Spurs goal this season came, yes that right against the Blues. One bad thing he can't play in the UEFA Cup, as he's played in that competition for Spurs this season. (31/01/08) |
