Jack Rodwell - 2008/09

New Deal For Jack?

The Blues are rumoured to have started talks with Jack Rodwell whose first contract with the Blues runs out in eighteen months time. Jack who made his debut last season for the Blues, has excelled this season when staring at first due to lack of players, then latterly because the Boss knew he was good enough to play on his own merit. Jack who once again started against De Hammers on Saturday is held in high regard by Moyesy, and hopefully he will be a Blue for many years to come.

Moyesy says: "I am really excited about Fellaini being 20-years-old and Jack Rodwell being 17. I think we could have two of the most exciting young midfield players in the country in the future. It might mean we have to take a step back for a year to let those two develop and come through, but I definitely think both those young players have big futures ahead of them. I have no doubt Jack Rodwell will be a player in the future for Everton and more than likely for England as well." (10/11/08)

Excited Jack Wants More

Jack was excited by his recall to the Everton side which played at Arsenal. He's hoping he did enough to keep his place against Man Utd this Saturday.

Jack says: “I was more excited than nervous. Coming to the Emirates - it is a fantastic stadium, and Arsenal is one of the biggest games of the season. It was brilliant to be involved. I have just got to keep working hard in training and we will see what happens.” (21/10/08)

Debut Jack

Although the manager admits that it is not an ideal time to be relying on youngsters, Moyesy is pleased with the home debuts of both Jack and Jose Baxter against Blackburn.

Moyesy says: "They both did fine, we were really pleased. In truth it’s not really the right time to be playing Jack Rodwell if we could help it. We would rather him come into a side that is on top of it and it can be easier for him."

Jack says: "I was proud to make my first start but it wasn't as happy as it could have been because we didn't get the result we wanted. With 20 minutes to go we were 2-1 up and we just had to hold out but we didn't do that which is disappointing. I am still learning it. But I am finding it more comfortable every time I play there. There's a lot of time left this season so we have got to keep working hard." (20/08/08)

Happy Jack

Having made 3 first team appearances last season, debuts in the Premiership and in Europe as Everton's youngest ever player, Jack has praised Lee Carsley for his advice.

Jack says: “Lee’s a great lad, he’s helped me a lot to move into the defensive-midfield position and I wish him well for the future. It’s always been my dream to play for the first team at Everton. I’ve been here since I was seven so to play this season has been magnificent and hopefully there’s more to come. All of this season has been great, but to play in the first team and make my debut in Holland, also my Premier League debut at Sunderland and then I got another appearance on the last day of the season against Newcastle so it’s been great. I just have to keep working hard and keep my feet on the ground, and then more appearances will come.” (27/05/08)
