Everton 0, Boro' 0/ Wed 24th March. 2004. / Atten: 327/ @ Haig Ave, Southport. / Kick-Off: 7.00pm Everton: Wright, Wynne, Fox, Hughes, Gerrard Moogan B., Seargeant, Booth, Lynch, Pascucci, Wilson. Bench: Hopkins (Lynch 77), Harris, Lake, Potter, Wright S.
Moyesy passed up the chance to put his feet up with and watch Chelsea and Arsenal battle it out, in favour of a trip to the sea side. Andy Holden fielded with the exception of Dickie Wright, ten youngsters who would still be eligible for our Academy side. With that in mind those said youngsters held Boro to a commendable draw in front of 300 odd spectators in Southport. The game lacked any serious efforts at either end in the early stages, with Pascucci for the Blues looking the liveliest. It took until five minutes before the first half was out, till either keeper had a real save to make. Dickie Wright plodding his way back on the comeback trail, saved superbly to deny Boro's Dove a half time lead. Wrighty took over in the second period, as Everton's youngster began to flag, and on more than one occasion he was called upon to keep his goal in tact. Then second half was all Boro, with Everton's only meaningful effort falling to Pascucci , who rounded the keeper smartly, only to see his effort drift past the post. Boro' did beat the commanding Wright in the Everton goal, but youngsters Fox,and Wynne cleared off the line, both on separate occasions. The game fizzled out to the predictable draw, but certainly a good one for the Blues. (25/03/04)
