Everton 1, Leeds 1/ Tuesday 16th March 2004. / Atten:370 / @ Haig Ave, Southport. / Kick-Off: 7.00pm Everton : R Wright, S Wright, Fox, Gerrard, Weir, Wilson, Hopkins, Carsley, Chadwick, Symes, McFadden. Bench: Hughes, Lake, Pascucci (Hopkins 90m), Harris (Carsley 46m), Boyle (McFadden 67m). Goalscorers: Symes 3mins Everton got their first point in the last 3 games with a hard earned draw against an experienced Leeds side. It was The Toffeemen who got off to a flyer with a well taken effort from Symesy. It was Faddy who done all the work beating four defenders down the left wing before crossing for Michael to finish it off. Paul Hopkins was making his debut and looks to be a decent prospect. He was denied a few times by Carson the Leeds keeper who kept his side in the game with some tremendous saves. Simon Johnson levelled things on 68 minutes when he beat Wrighty from 6 yards out. Wrighty looked in confident mood all night and looks in good shape. Faddy and Lee Carsley were subbed in the 2nd half with one eye on Saturdays game versus Leicester.
Everton will field a reserve side tonight with a mixture of youth and experience. Dickie Wright continues on the comeback trail, with Davey Weir starting again despite his sending off for the second string last week. Harry Hill and Faddy are also called in, to give them much needed match practice, ahead of Saturdays match at Leicester. Nick Chadwick is a surprise selection after all his woes with the Millwall saga, and he still remains the second strings top scorer, despite only starting in nine matches. Debutantes for the rezzies tonight are right back Sean Wright, and centre midfielder Paul Hopkins. Moyesy will be in attendance tonight to run the rule over some of the more experienced lads with this weekends crucial battle at the Walkers Stadium in mind. (16/03/04)
