Andy Holden's reserve side, finished their season with a defeat to Sunderland. The youthful eleven, at least went down fighting, with a display that bodes well for the future. Everton welcomed back keeper Iain Turner from Chester, and he was called upon in the 20th minute to tip round the post a shot from Sunderland's Kingsberry. Everton's best effort of the half fell to Brian Moogan, who watched his 25 yard effort superbly saved by the Sunderland keeper.

Everton started the second half well, with both Pascucci and Fox going close. Moogan again had to watch as an in form Sunderland keeper in Alnwick saved well, after the Everton midfielder went on a mazy run before unleashing a shot, that seemed goal bound.

The visitors took the lead totally against the run of play, when Potter conceded a dubious penalty, which Clark converted to give the Black Cats an undeserved lead. A close range header from substitute Graham, five minutes before the death, gave the visitors maximum points, but at least Andy Holden will be pleased with the commitment and effort his young charges displayed in their last outing of the season.
