Holdens youngsters carried on their rich vein of form with a three one
trouncing of previously unbeaten Aston Villa. After their victory over
the shite last week, Holden had the luxury of adding Scottish International
Jimmy Mac to his young squad. Jimmy did not disappoint and as early
as the fourth minute, he belted a low shot in from the edge of the area
to give the Blues a one nil lead.
On
the half hour mark, Everton's other forward with first team experience
made it two. Nick Chadwick guided a header home after good work out
wide, by young Danny Fox. It took Everton till late in the second half
to put the game beyond reach when, when in the 86th minute James Vaughan
headed the Blues back into a two goal lead. Minutes earlier Villa had
closed the deficit after a Luke Moore effort found it's way past Ian
Turner in the Everton sticks.
The
only low point of the evening was when Anthony Gerrard was stretchered
off the pitch, and took to hospital for treatment. Faddy was replaced
by Vaughan in the second half himself, after having a good hour run
out on Moyesy's orders. (20/10/04)

Holden says: "It’s been blatantly obvious all season that
we just needed a bit of experience in the team. With the young boys
grafting away, we just had that little bit of quality in the last third
- it was just like watching Osman and Chadwick to be fair, it was that
type of partnership. Every time the pair of them got on the ball in
the first 15 or 20 minutes something looked like happening.
It
was a great goal from Vaughany from a standing jump. It was a great
header and that just put us back on track. Take it from me, if he goes
about it right, does the right things and behaves in the right manner
then it certainly won’t be his last goal." (20/10/04)
