Victor
Anichebe scored a brace last night as the Skunks fought back from a
two goal deficit to scramble a draw in a cold North East. It was a heart
ache night for Andy Holden's young team as Newcastle grabbed a share
of the spoils right on the final whistle.
The
plus point on the night was another accomplished performance by the
returning Gary Naysmith, but unfortunately Chinese International Li
Tie's injury nightmare continues when he was withdrawn after fifteen
minutes when it become clear he could not carry on after a nasty challenge
on him.
The
evening belonged to young Victor Anichebe, who if he carries on this
type of form, will be knocking on Moyesy's door before too long. (24/01/06)
Andy
Holden on Victor Anichebe says: "He
took his goals very well, I was pleased with both of them. More so the
first one because that’s what we’ve been working on in training - turning
defenders and getting shots in. He’s only 17-years old and he’s scored
two goals for us on the night, which is great.
I
said afterwards that we didn’t deserve to be pulled back but I always
felt that we needed a third goal just to kill the game off. We conceded
the first goal right after scoring and then we conceded again right
on full-time. We just showed a bit of inexperience in not being able
to kill the game off and keep the ball in the last third of the field
but hopefully one or two of them will learn from it. But it was a good
point and if we had got that third goal we would have relaxed a bit
and played a bit of football." (24/01/06)
