Villa 2 Everton 1/ Premiership Reserves / Wed 15th March 2006 / Kick Off: 7:00pm / Att: 194

Everton: Ruddy, Wynne, Naysmith, Boyle, Wright, Phelan, Seargeant, Carsley, Van der Meyde, Hopkins, Anichebe

Subs: Vidarsson, Ingason, Kissock (Van der meyde), Molyneux, Morrison.

Scorers: Anichebe

Andy van came through forty five minutes in the Midlands last night, as the rezzies went down 2-1 to a Villa second string that included Lee Hendrie, and Eric Djemba Djemba. The Blues took the lead through Victor Anichebe on the half hour mark, when the young striker prodded home from close range. Harry Hill and Nace were also on show and both lasted the full ninety in their comeback regimes.

Moyesy will be keen to get Andy van back into first team action as soon as possible, and he would have been heartened by the wingers touch in the forty five minutes he played in. It was Harry Hill who ran the show in the middle, and Everton should have gone in at the half two up after the Irishman's drive was saved well by Taylor.

Villa pressed in the second period and scored straight from the off when Peter Whittingham drew the scores level. A draw would have been the fairest of results, but Villa took all the points with ten to go, when Agbonlahor slotted home after great work from Lee Hendrie.

Andy Holden will be disappointed with the result, but Moyesy will be happy that Nace, Harry Hill and now Andy van have took another step back towards the first team. (16/03/06)

Everton take a strong line up to the Midlands tonight, as Andy van, Harry Hill and Nace all start, as they pick up their fitness levels before the end of the season. It will be the Dutchman's first start since early December, though he did get ten minutes on Saturday against Fulham. Moyesy will be keen to see the Dutch winger back to full fitness, and if unscathed tonight will join up with the first team for this weekends visit of Villa's big boys.

Moyesy says: "It was only nine minutes but Andy looked quite sharp. We couldn't take the chance of giving him any more than that because he needs more football. But it is another player back for competition in the squad and we will give Gary and Cars a run out, too. The boys have been doing well. We are looking to keep things going." (15/03/06)
