Everton Reserves 2005/2006

Everton 1 WBA 0 / Premiership Reserves / Tue 21st March 2006 / Kick Off: 7:00pm / Att:

Everton: Turner, Irving, Pistone, Boyle, Wright, Phelan, Seargeant, Carsley, Anichebe, Hopkins, Kissock.

Bench: Molyneux (Pistone), Ruddy, Morrison (Carsley), Elder, Dennehy

Scorer: Anichebe

Pisto and Harry Hill were the star attractions for the rezzies last night at the Halton Stadium, but it was Victor Anichebe who stole the show with a dazzling performance and the winning goal ten minutes after the break. Harry and Pisto were given the hour to stretch their legs, and with the Derby looming on Saturday, Harry will be glad of another run out.

West Brom had their chances and keeper Iain Turner was on hand to deny the Baggies on several occasions with some top draw saves. Anichebe saw one effort graze the cross bar, before tapping in from a yard out after Harry Hill's quick thinking opened up the Baggies defence.

Anichebe went close again late on, but Andy Holden's boys looked more than comfortable in taking maximum points.

Andy says: "There were some good performances out there and I was delighted with another goal from big Victor Anichebe. There was some quick thinking for the goal. Searge (Christian Seargeant) did well and it was a great ball across. I have been trying to drum it into the big fella to get into the middle of the goal. And he has tapped it in for another goal.

It was good to see him score because he had a great chance before that when the keeper pulled off a good save. It was a very young team and there were some good performances. Young right-back John Irving adapted himself very well and it was nice to see. I thought it was a good game of football and the pitch played quite well. It was nice to see Alessandro come back and have an hour, plus another game for Lee Carsley." (22/03/06)

'Sandro Pistone steps out for the rezzies tonight, as Andy Holden's boys entertain West Brom at the Halton Stadium. It will be the Italian's first outing in a blue shirt since he was stretchered off against Bolton back in August with a cruciate injury. All the female staff at Goodison have been given special dispensation to travel to the ground to cheer on the Italian heart throb.

Harry Hill continues with his rehabilitation, but surprisingly Andy van is not in the squad, so maybe Moyesy has an eye on Saturday crucial Premiership encounter against the shite. (21/03/06)
