Scorers: Molyneux, Viddarrson An extremely young Everton side gave Wigan the run around last night over at Robin Park in Wigan. Goals from Lee Molyneux and Bjarni Vidarrson finished off a Wigan side that contained Stephanie Henchoz, and Mike Pollitt in their line up. Andy Holden had special praise for Victor Anichebe, and was delighted in the way that he gave the ex Analfield centre half the run around all night, so much so that the whining ex kopite was took out of the fray in the second half. On a rain sodden evening, Everton were good value for the full points, and Andy Holden was gleaming with his young charges. Andy says: "They had three or four players who have been amongst the first team on a regular basis. For us it was one of the youngest sides we have put out all season. But the manner we set about the game and the way we performed meant we deserved to win. In
fact, I was disappointed when they equalised because I didn't think
it was merited. They were slightly on top at that time, late in the
game, but it was the first time they had really threatened. That was
a good goal and credit to both lads for making something out of nothing
( Lee Molyneux's strike). Victor was a handful for them all night. I
don't know if Stephane Henchoz was meant to go off at half-time but
I am sure he was glad to see the back of Victor. Bjarni was a bit quieter
in the first half but he did better in the second half, winning more
headers and having more involvement in the game and he was rewarded
with his goal. The game went well. We trained at the Academy on Tuesday
and focussed on playing to our strengths and it went well. Patrick Boyle
was the skipper on the night and he led by example." (13/04/06) |
