Everton Reserves 2005/2006

Everton 1 Wolves 2 / Premiership Reserves / Wed 10th Aug 2005 / Kick Off: 7:00pm / Att:

Everton: Turner, Wynne, Wilson, Wright, Hughes, Harris, Seargeant, Li Tie, Anichebe, Vaughan, Hopkins.

Bench: Holt, Lake, Vidarsson, Phelan, Kearney.

Everton suffered their first defeat of the season last night, as a Wolves side scored late on to secure the points. Everton dominated the game. Both Li Tie and James Vaughan had good games.

Reserve Team Coach, Andy Holden says: "We were giving too many soft free-kicks away. If you give too many away you will be punished at some stage, especially if you are missing chances at the other end. That is what I am most disappointed about. It seems that I am telling them in every match to stop giving silly free-kicks away but it has happened again.

In the second half we dominated for long periods and created some great chances. James Vaughan did some dogged work, in particular with once chance that he created himself and put just past the post. In the first half we started by giving the ball away too cheaply. They were against a side with a number of older players but some of our lads have had a season at this level now and I am looking for to show they are learning from that experience. We did finish the half quite strongly and the second half was better. I am pleased for Li Tie and getting through this game will do him good." (11/08/05)
