Everton Youngsters v Leeds Internationals

Everton: Simonsen, Hibbert, Pilkington, Clarke, Valentine, Cleland, Curran, Gascoigne, McLeod, Cadamarteri, Eaton

Subs: O'Hanlon for Clarke (60m) Pettinger, Kearney, Symes

Leeds United: Robinson, Kelly, Newey, McPhail, Duberry, Woodgate, Johnson, Burns, Smith, Batty, Wilcox.

Everton had a good run out in front of a big crowd, who had come to see their new signing Seth Johnson. He scored just after half an hour. The only goal of the game. Everton had held out well until then, with Tony Hibbert, George Pilkington, & Peter Clarke playing well. Steve Simmo again kept goal competently, without butting any of his defenders & actually kicking the ball towards an Everton player.

Half-time: Leeds 1 Everton 0.

Everton came into the game more in the second half, & should have had a penalty when Woodgate pushed Eaton to the ground, but the ref said no. We had our chances in the second half. Danny Cada, who was enjoying himself upfront, shot wide from 20 yards after a good turn. Gazza floated in a free kick, which Sean O'Hanlon headed goalwards, only to see it tipped over by the keeper. Gazza himself had a free kick, but it just cleared the bar. During this period, Simmo had to tip over a a header from Alan Smith. Everton came back again, & Curran had a shot, which just cleared the bar. Danny should have scored when he broke free, but his shot from inside the 6 yard box was saved by the keeper.

Considering all the experienced players, Leeds had out, Everton did well. Pilkington, Clarke, Gazza, & Eaton being Everton's best players. Gazza got another full game under his belt. Simmo did well again. If Walter want's him in goal on Saturday, he's ready.

Full -time: Leeds 1 Everton 0.

Simmo says: "You would rather play sides like that, with all due respect to the young lads in the league. You want to be playing Premiership stars week in, week out and it will have given a good lesson to some of the boys. They will know what they are up against if they want to make it."
