The Ruleteros Society – Book Launch

The official launch of "Cien Anos de Calidad" or "One Hundred Years of Quality" Everton's history in Spanish, took place in the Dixie Dean Suite at Goodison Park yesterday.

The book is published by the Ruleteros Society and aimed primarily at the Spanish/South American fans who want to know more about our great Club.

The book is the first complete history of the club in Spanish and is designed to raise Everton's profile across the globe.

Present at the book launch was Julio Arellano, Liverpool's Honorary Chilean Consulate. Julio is also owner of the Merseyside's only Chilean restaurant; 'The Valperaso' in Hardman Street. Well worth a visit.

Secretary of the Ruleteros Society John Shearon said: "On my last visit to the Chilean Everton in 2002, it was apparent that the evertonianos wanted to know more about the Everton in Liverpool."

So three Ruleteros members, Gerry Allison, Tony Heslop and Adrian McGrath - all Spanish lecturers in Merseyside - have chronicled the club's 100 seasons in the top flight of English football.

The Latin American Everton was founded by Anglo-Chileans in 1909, a few weeks after Everton had completed an unbeaten tour of South America.

Then in June 2002 Shearon helped form the Ruleteros Society, a title based on the Chile club's nickname of the roulette players as Vina del Mar, the town where they play, is renowned for casinos.

Steve Bickerton, the society's Publicity officer says:"Publishing this book in Spanish can also be seen as a contribution to the city of Liverpool being European Capital of Culture 2008. The city's slogan in securing Capital of Culture status was 'The World In One City'. The Ruleteros's slogan is 'The World In Two Evertons'."

At the launch, we were treated to some excellent vino - Chilean of course! (07/06/04)

The book, which has a foreword by Howard Kendall, costs £7.99 and can be bought via the society's web site:www.ruleteros.com
