Puerto Montt 0 CD Everton 1 (19/11) In the
final match of the 2005 season, and with nothing to play for, CD Everton
beat lowly Puerto Montt yesterday evening in the Estadio Chinquihue.
Everton played well and largely dominated the match, but the only goal
of the game came on 33m when man-of-the-match Mauricio "Papelucho"
Donoso scored from a brilliantly taken free kick which gave the Puerto
Montt keeper, Carlos Espinosa, no chance. |
|
CD Everton 0 : Palestino 0 (6/11)
CD Everton virtually kissed goodbye to any hopes of making the play offs yesterday after this disappointing 0:0 draw at home to lowly Palestino in the Estadio Sausalito. Relegation-threatened Palestino made life difficult for the Ruleteros who failed to impose themselves on a match they really had to win. The match itself was very poor with the first chance (for Palestino) arriving after 30m. Palestino’s keeper, Felipe Nuñez was a mere spectator for most of the first half. In the second half, Everton coach Garcés brought on Ricardo Pérez as Joel Estay had a couple of good opportunities to open the scoring. With time running out Marclay & González came on in an attempt to force a winner for the Oro y Cielo but in the end, Palestino were well worth their point.
With just one match remaining (away to Puerto Montt on Sunday 13 November), the Ruleteros need a miraculous combination of results if they are to make the play offs. |

Universidad de Chile 1 : CD Everton 1 (03/11) Everton started brightly last night in the Estadio Nacional against Universidad de Chile but had to settle for a share of the points. The Ruleteros had three great chances to open the scoring before Mauricio Donoso put the Oro y Cielo one-nil up on 20m. This appeared to wake the home team up as Marcelo Salas' side dominated for the rest of the first half, but great work from Everton keeper González kept the Ruleteros' noses in front at the break. Everton came out strongly in the second half and were unlucky not to extend their lead when Estrada saw his shot hit the post on 54m. The game changed on 76m when Universidad coach Héctor Pinto brought on Juan Manel Oliveira. The substitution had an almost immediate effect as an Oliveira header hit the post before Canío scored from the rebound on 82m. Marclay & Diez went close for Everton in the dying minutes but in the end the Ruleteros were disappointed to go back to Viña del Mar with just one point instead of all three. |

CD Everton 1 : U.Católica 2 (30/10) CD Everton coach Jorge Garcés blamed poor refereeing
for this costly defeat on Sunday afternoon in the Estadio Sausalito against
league leaders Universidad Católica. After a slow start, Everton
began to pile on the pressure through Estay & "Tiburón"
Ramos before Frank Carilao was brought down in the box by Fran Arrué.
The referee ignored pleas for a penalty but on 29m, Universidad's record-breaking
'keeper, José María Buljubasich, brought down Joel Estay,
and "El Tiburón" scored from the spot to put the Ruleteros
into the lead. Universidad's Argentinian 'keeper had previously kept 14
clean sheets and gone 22 hours and 32 minutes of domestic football without
conceding a goal. Unfortunately the lead didn't last long, and on 33m
Ignacio Quinteros brought the leaders level after Everton 'keeper, González,
failed to hold Jorge Quinteros' shot. In the second half, Garcés
took off Donoso and brought on Daniel González. Estrada was brought
down by Fuenzalida but once again the referee ignored calls for a penalty.
Everton continued to push for a winner but on 75m Iván Vásquez
sealed the points for Universidad after good work by Conca. |

Deportes
Concepción 2 CD Everton 0 (27/10)
CD Everton’s chances of making the play offs were dealt a massive blow last night with this 2:0 defeat against Deportes Concepción in the Estadio Collao. It took the home side just 2 minutes to take the lead through defender Marco Bautista. Everton then proceeded to dominate the game but failed to find an equaliser as both “Tiburón” Ramos & Joel Estay missed good first-half chances. The Ruleteros continued to dominate after the break as coach Jorge Garcés brought on an extra striker, Sergio Marclay. However it wasn’t to be Everton’s night as Concepción broke away to seal the points with a goal from Montesinos. Last night’s performance really sums up Everton’s season; the Ruleteros played well at times, created some good chances but just couldn’t convert them. |
|
CD Everton 2 Audax Italiano 1 (22/10) Everton extended their run of games without defeat to 6 in a hard-fought but well-deserved victory last night in the Estadio Sausalito. Everton started very brightly winning 8 corners in the first 13 minutes but Audax took the lead against the run of play on 21m with a goal from a free kick from “Chupete” Suazo. Everton coach Garcés changed things immediately bringing on Danoso for Torres. In the 2nd half, the equaliser came on 52m from a penalty scored by “Tiburón” Ramos. Then Joel Estay was brought down inside the box and “Tiburón” scored his 2nd penalty of the match to seal all 3 points for the Ruleteros. This victory
moves CD Everton up to 7th in the overall table and up to 2nd in their
own Group 2. |
|
Deportes Temuco 0 CD Everton 3 (16/10) Last night’s fine win away to Deportes Temuco in the Estadio Germán saw the debut of Argentinian striker Sergio Fabián Marclay. Temuco had the opportunity to take the lead when the home side was awarded a penalty on 19m but ex-Evertonian Elton Troncoso’s spot kick was well saved by Roberto Gonález, making amends for his costly error against Melipilla. Tensions increased as both Everton coach Jorge Garcés and club doctor Jaime Nuñez were sent off. Everton’s equaliser came just before half-time through Daniel González. Joel Estay put the Ruleteros 2:1 up just after the break before Bascuñán sealed all 3 points on 59m. |
|
CD Everton 1 Melipilla 1 (9/10) Everton’s ambitions to make the play-offs were damaged after this frustrating draw in the Estadio Sausalito. The Ruleteros piled on the pressure in the first half, hitting the bar twice through Daniel González & Fran Sánchez who later went off injured on 28m, to be replaced by Ricardo Pérez. In the 2nd half Everton took the lead through Renato “Tiburón” Ramos but despite constant Everton pressure, Alex Jiménez scored the equaliser on 75m after a mix up in the Everton defence. |
|
CD Everton 3 Cobresal 1 (2/10) CD Everton got back to winning ways last night with a fine 3:1 victory over Cobresal in the Estadio Sausalito. It was the Ruleteros’ first win for over 2 months. The first half was generally very poor with just one goal chance falling to the boy Maggio who failed to convert. In the 2nd half Cobresal started the brighter but on 59m Marco Estarda put the Oro y Cielo in front before Chris Gálvez equalised 3 minutes later. However Everton’s heads didn’t go down on conceding the equaliser and on 67m Frank Carilao put Everton ahead with a 30-yard drive before man-of-the-match Donoso sealed all 3 points for the Ruleteros. |
|
Coquimbo 2 CD Everton 2 (28/9) Everton’s long run without a win continued last night with a draw against Coquimbo in the Estadio Sánchez Rumoroso. Everton started brightly with Daniel González putting the Ruleteros in front from a well-taken free kick. However, 2 goals in 3 minutes from Coquimbo’s Marcelo Corrales looked like being enough to give the home side all 3 points before Danoso brought the Oro y Cielo level from another well-worked free kick. |
|
Deportes La Serena 0 CD Everton 0 (24/9) In a very disappointing performance away last night in the Estadio La Portada, Everton ‘keeper Roberto González was the only bright spot as his heroics prevented the home side from registering their first home win of the closing “Clausura” tournament. |
|
CD Everton 0 Santiago Wanderers 1 (18/9) Pressure is mounting on Everton coach Jorge Garcés after last night home defeat to local rivals Santiago Wanderers in the Estadio Sausalito. A first goal in nearly 2 years from Joel Soto was enough to give the away side all 3 points as Everton once again failed to dominate in midfield with both González and Sánchez completely anonymous up front. Tensions boiled over at the end of the game with Ricardo Pérez and Marco Estrada both being sent off. |
Everton
1 Universidad de Concepcíon 1 - Estadio Sausalito - 1st Feb 2005
Everton missed the chance to go clear at the top of the league for the second game running last night as they failed to beat strugglers Universidad de Concepcíon. Julio César Laffatigue was suspended and was clearly missed as the Ruleteros failed to break down the visitors, who were more than happy with one point. Everton took the lead in the first half through Joel Estay only to be pegged back almost immediately, on 39’, when Universidad converted a very dubious penalty. The second half saw Everton continue with the bombardment (the last resort of a desperate team) which almost paid off when a second penalty was awarded – this time to the locals. Chuky Gonzalez proceeded to pass it to the goalkeeper and the chance was lost. Saturday
is the first derby game of the season, away to Santiago Wanderers – K.O
19:30 local time. (05/02/05) |

| Audax Italiano 1 Everton 1 - Estadio La Florida, Santiago - 28th Jan 2005 Everton travelled to Santiago on Friday night buoyed by their opening win over La Universidad de Chile the previous week. In previous campaigns, an away point in La Florida would have been welcomed but the ensuing draw left the Ruleteros and their travelling fans disappointed – a fair indication of how far this team has come since Jorge Garcés took over. The home side took the lead on 25’ through Carlos Reyes after neither side had shown much threat. However, this only served to spur the visitors to take the game to Audax, who were restricted to counter-attacks for the rest of the game. Everton’s pressure finally paid off on 66’ when Julio César Laffatigue scored with a brilliant header from Chuky González’s cross to the far post. Unfortunately, Laffatigue was soon in the showers after a clash with Valladeres. With both teams down to 10 men the game petered out to the final whistle. Momentarily
top of the league, Everton have a fair chance of consolidating their good
start at home to Universidad de Concepcíon on Tuesday night and
away to local rivals, Santiago Wanderers on Sunday. (31/01/05) |

| Everton 3 Universidad de Chile 2. Everton opened
the 2005 campaign on Saturday night (22/1) against La Universidad de Chile
in the Sausalito. The locals hadn't beaten “La U” since 1993 but, as with
most opening games, optimism would be high - at least till half-time.
The Ruleteros twice took the lead, through Estay and Gonzalez, only to
be pegged back on both occasions. Everton's Marco Estrada's early bath,
for two yellow cards, confirmed the home sides desire to settle for the
draw - not a bad result against championship favourites. However, as the
game went into injury time, new Argentinean striker, Julio Cesar Laffatigue,
chased a loose ball in the area and notched the winner. This is the perfect
start to the campaign as La U are in the same play-off group as the Ruleteros. |
