After a quick service stop we pulled into the Braunstone Club at 12. Mickey Blue Eyes was straight to the bar and bought everyone whatever they wanted, as long as it was lager and there wasn't more than six of us. Sausage joined us with Chipolata and Sizzler in and once Kipper finally got his Brown Split we settled down for a couple of hours of booze and talk on all things blue. Things livened up after a few jars and the whole party livened up the club by taking to the stage to give a well rounded performance of Daydream Believer. Then after a bit of star spotting, ex Fox Steve Lynex at the bar, we downed a couple of snifters and were on our way to Filbert Street. Songs now coming thick and fast from the coach party regulars.

Off the coach we approached the ground which had been built snugly behind a row of terraced houses. Unfortunately some poor Bastard had to have their living room knocked through for the turnstile's to be installed, but still loved the club so much they had a "Keep City in the city". Either this fella's campaign had worked or he hadn't looked out of his window as they new ground is within 500 yards of the old one. The game was shite. No two ways about it. Fortunately there were plenty of shouts and antics from the crowd to keep us entertained. Not content with flashing her thighs on the coach Sue managed to get injured in the warm-up, providing the ESCWARA gang plenty to sing about. De Vito made his thoughts clear on numerous occasions, usually followed by "Sit down Timmy Mallet" from a couple of rows back. And a poorly stocked snack bar with no booze with always be an easy target for traveling Blues.

Game drawing to a close it was time for a sharp exit and a trip to Safeway for essential supplies for the return trip. Case of Carling and some mayo for Kipper high quality but bit dry butties. The coach was still in high spirits considering such a drab game and the banter and songs continued all the way back.

Arriving at The Albion at 7.30 we weighed up our options. Considering we had young Mackerel(Kipper jnr) in tow we decided to have a couple with Terry and Kyle to round the day off before jumping a cab or the train home. The atmosphere that had been generated from the start of the trip continued throughout the night until we heard the shout for last orders. Terry then surpassed the standards set during the day by phoning his missus instead of a cab, and he and Diane gave us a lift home.

I don't think this personal touch is available to everyone, but I can guarantee the genuine hospitality shown to us would be extended to anyone joining the ESCWARA gang on an away trip. Bluekipper will definitely be joining them again.
