I bought
my son, Liam the Shoot 2004 annual today and look what he found slap bang
in the middle pages. "EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT an Everton fan you will probably be able to laugh at the Scouse humour on this great site. Put together by a "gang of Evertonians who have known each other for 25 years" it offers both entertainment and information. They even got Wayne Rooney to say a few words and hold up one of their T-shirts - now there's a vote of confidence. Updated regularly." Eileen.

Thought you might be interested in this team shot that includes Mick Meagan – back row, third from left. Mick, as you know played at full-back for Everton in the early sixties and, I think, joined Huddersfield in the deal that brought Ray Wilson to Everton. Mick eventually went on to become Ireland’s first full-time manager. I first saw Everton in the ’66 Cup Final and have supported them since. Although in his late seventies Mick still turns out each year in a charity match in aid of the local St Andrews home. His team consists of former Ireland / League of Ireland / English First Division players and the opposition is provided by Manortown United FC managers and coaches. (The year before last he actually turned out for Manortown and I had the pleasure of playing alongside him in defence.) Manortown field teams in the Leinster Senior League and the Dublin and District Schoolboy League. Our most famous ‘son’ is Niall Quinn who played all his schoolboy football with us before moving to Arsenal (Man City and Sunderland). For any Dublin Toffees wishing to see Mick in action the match always takes place the day after St. Stephen’s Day / Boxing Day at about 11:30. Regards, Martin Speers. (29/05/04) |
